if he has a signed letter then hatton is fucked.
from the bbc.
Frank Warren has produced documentary evidence that he says confirms his Sports Network company has a binding contract with Ricky Hatton.
The contract for Hatton's bout with Ray Oliveira in December 2004 stated it was "pursuant to and in accordance with" a letter from Warren dated 7 December.
That letter stated Sports Network would promote Hatton's next four fights.
The fight contract was signed by Hatton and witnessed by Robert Smith of the British Boxing Board of Control.
The agreement was made on 11 December, the day of the fight with Oliveira.
Since then Hatton's only outing has been his world title victory over Kostya Tszyu.
Under such an agreement, Hatton would be tied to Sports Network for three more fights.
Hatton has denied any agreement tying him to Sports Network exists and that he should be free to talk to other promoters.
Warren initiated legal proceedings against Hatton earlier this month because of the disagreement.
If Hatton can self promote himself, it will be great for his career. I hope every fighter self promote themselves or have person that they trust to promote them. I hate all promoters, all they care about is money, promoters have fucked up boxing for good. It wont make any difference if it's Don King, Bob Arum, Oscar De Lay Hoya or Frank Warren. Their all evil.
i agree that if a fighter can be his own promoter he should do it....rjj has done it and made his millions always on his terms..the next best thing is a situation like tito were his dad was his manager so he really looked after his best intrest this is why you don't hear them talking about don king ripping them off like he has done to other fighters ....
Why so much fuss over Hatton neway?
Hes not even the best 140 pounder in britain
You have gotta be joking, i guess you think Junior Witter is the best in Britian.
You musnt know your boxing.
agreed buit if warren has a 4 fight deal in black and white then im afraid it should be honoured.
dont sign what you dont mean.
Thats my opinion, if Hatton signed i'd want him to honour his agreement.
I bet that contract stated that he'd have a guaranteed fight with Kostya Tszyu down the line which was part of the 4 fight deal...I bet thats all what Ricky wanted, its like he sold his soul to the devil for that fight and now he wants out cuz he got what he wanted
I'm British and I spent 4 and 1/2 years working in a civil court... I spent those years working on legal cases just like this. And one thing I do know is that a written contract is not as solid/final as people think.
:D :D that has to go down as one the best replies ever :D :D
well don martin, made me chuckle that nice one bro.
when you take people to court for such things.........you don't put your cards on the table until the last minute..........otherwise, the opponent would make excuses for whatever evidence on hand......
great and wise legal maneuver by warren.
A signed contract doesn't mean what it used too...
You can have a signed contract nowadays and still lose a court case, Judges tend to take it into consideration, weigh up the pros and cons from both sides and then make an order.
I don't think all this legal mess is good for Hatton at this moment in time... He needs to be comfortable with his trainers and promoters, and everything should be running smoothly.
This mess will only distract him.
how do know how the british legal system works
but a legal binding contract has alot of power here in the US.
Ricky Hatton has a made a big mistake, why sign a contract for another 4 fights in the event u had intentions of leaving him. It is well known that Ricky a couple of years ago was offered a similar contract to Audley Harrison and decided to stay with Warren in no way should he have signed a new contract. If he did not get another fight with before the Oliveria he should have said no and sat out his contract.
You cannot bite the hand the feeds u
p.s I have been saying for a while Ricky was right to leave Warren but no under these circumstances
im reading all kinds bout this, from the contract was signed before the addendum (i.e letter) to its bona fide.
if i hear more of internest ill pass it on.
trying to work out the bullshit from the real on this issue is pretty difficult as i know fuck all about contract law.
Guess we wont find out properly til it goes to court.
of course the logic says its not as water tight as being made out by SN and its not as leaky as being made out by team hatton.
thats be me getting splinters in my arse sitting on the fence then
:D
It's the Promoter that put's his hand in his pocket to set up the whole event.
I know that Martin. ;)
It just seems to me that promoters have way too much power. You can't tell me that Warren hasn't made millions off Hatton over the years.
I think a lot of this is down to Warren having signed an exclusive boxing deal with MEN Arena and Hatton no longer wanting to fight for him. I don't think Warren has too many other fighters who could sell the place out, maybe Amir Khan in a year or two.

What I want to know, is if Warren had this 'signed letter' all along, why has he waited this long to produce it?
Ricky and Ray Hatton have been saying for weeks for Frank to produce his evidence. It all seems more than a bit underhand to me.
And another thing (I'm ranting now), why the hell is a fighter under contract to a promoter? Surely it should be the other way around, it's the boxer who gets in the ring ffs.
