Morales eyes lightweight division! Thursday, September 1 2005 El Terrible says "Pacquiao not even on my mind." Former world champion Erik Morales, who is spending his birthday in Mexico City, says he is prepared to move to conquer the lightweight division, beginning with his September 10 fight against Zahir Raheem. "If I fight Manny Pacquiao, that would be the only fight I would do at 130," said Morales. "Some people think I dodn't beat him at his best. I think I did, and I can do it anytime I want....I do want to be a lightweight champion and wouldn't have any problem fighting the winner of Corrales-Castillo." from fight news

Morales is a legend, is one of the best pure boxers in the game today, and has an all-time great chin. He's taken the heaviest punches at 122, 126 and 130...and he kept on coming. Erik stands a chance against ANYBODY at 135. I'll throw points on every fight Erik has at 135 with people saying he'd be blasted out by all of these lightweights.

he faught the perfect fight vs pac..so what are you talking about? Morales would definitely beat everyone at 135 other than maybe corrales..he would never fight castillo..so the only person i see beating him would be corrales..but I would never count morales out of a fight..you never know perfect??? You might wanna reword yer stuff. Everyone at 135lbs? lol. don't make statements too quick. Morales going to 135 lbs is crazy.

Morales didn't even CONQUER 130 lbs. Why does he think he can do so at lightweight? Castillo will destroy him. Corrales leave him a smear on the canvas. I don't even think Morales can take Casamayor....

Morales is definitely biting off more than he can chew if he decides to fight Corrales. Chico will stop him & viciously. There's NO ONE from 135 lbs. & down that will be able to handle Chico's power. Morales chin might be good but Chico's power is unreal for a guy that started his career at 122 to handle.

i'd like to see his chin tested at 135. if he can take a good punch from a castillo or corrales, i'd give him a good chance in the division. otherwise....

If this is true, it would be the biggest mistake of his career... Morales is waaaaayyyyyy to small to handle the 6ft. Corralles, or any one of the elite fighters in that division... Why must fighters constantly push the envelope?????? Reminds me of Mosely, or even a DeLaHoya, or Mayorga;;;; Its totally uneccesary and career threatning... Good Post!

Morales chin is unquestionably spectacular while Chico's is somewhat questionable. It could be very one sided... the question is for who? Chico's got much faster hands and slightly better defense. Morales has a better chin and is generally more skilled at which punch to throw. Also, while Chico has several inches on him, their reach seems to be relatively similar.

people call morales stupid! but for what? if all fighters were like MORALES the FIGHT GAME would be filled with jam packed great fights. Too many coward ducking going on in boxing. Morales even if dumb is good for boxing.
