I've never seen a 27-year-olD fighter with worse physical & verbal repercussions from boxing than Fernando Vargas.....
He was swollen, bruised, & looked to have a broken jaw after the fight, when it seemed that he took very few serious punches....
Nando used to be a very entertaining interview, now he mumbles and grunts and groans after the fights when he talks to Larry Merchant...
in all seriousness, it's getting very sad, I can see this guy being going down the Meldrick Taylor route very shortly, Nando was a great prospect in the late 90's but he has deteriorated tremendously from his 2 KO losses
Everytime he goes down, he has a point taken from him in the round and overall the fight. He's not really making up for it by getting up. He's just going down on the scorecard.
I wasnt talking about winning or losing I was just pointing out he had heart and although he may have a bum chin he makes up for it by keep getting up when getting knocked down....That right there is a champion someone who continues to get up
I didn't like the way he looked against whatever the fuck that guy's name is. He looked like his back was stiff or something. Before he had the back problem and took that time off, he would have murdered that guy, the guy was right there to be hit. And I know that Vargas got hit in his other fights, but when he's trying to box and stay away, and still gets hit that much, that's not a good sign.
Wlad had a huge heart against Corrie Sanders. He still got his ass beat.

He may have a bum chin but atleast he has a huge heart especially after being knocked down by trinidad 5 times and ODH, he got up and made it to the 12th in trinidad and 11th against ODH so where is his chin? He has to have one atleast pretty strong correct me if i'm wrong.
As far as him being punch drunk it's boxing what can you do when you get hit in the head 200+ times a night you know and after a fight if he is slurring his speach more its understandable considering he just was fighting for 36 minutes come on. Plus he had a broken jaw! He has been hit alot but I think this time he will win against ODH especially considering ODH took so long off and will be rusty in the ring. I would rather see that than a fight against wright!
DLH is the natural boxer. And I think his father taught Mayweather that who shoulder roll and as you knock Floyd's pops is in DLH's corner.
Anybody know anything about Vargas' trainer?
Yeah Mayorga would be a bad matchup for Vargas. But Mayorga is terribly over rated, hopefully mostly everyone sees that. Its a bad matchup for Vargas because of his wild agressive style and his power is still very good.
jus cuz he didn't KO the guy doesn't mean anything. i mean his stamina is much better. his defence tho is dumb, cuz u gotta be MAD fast for that like PBF.
and he always leans to the right, so anyone can jus land the overhand right. and also, should only do that on the ropes. fake both ways, and get out of there.
he has sum things to work on, but i dont think hes that bad. So I'm not the only one to think this. Wow!

Vargas's problem is he bought into his own hype that he could be an all time fighter. Losing to trinadad and de la hoya should not have been seen as a setback, but as a reality check. He did not need to reinvent his style in response considering he beat many great fighters with it including quartey. He looked completely out of place trying to box and let a game but waaaaaaay over the hill castillejo hang around. Vargas should just fight his natural style. He does not have the skill set or the mentality to become Floyd Mayweather any more than Mayweather could have imitated Vargas's former style
GOOD CALL, i think Mayorga is a bad match-up for 'Nando, if one of those big overhand rights landed clean on Vargas' noggin he'd be out COLD....
it makes more sense to just fight Oscar again & ca$h in & establish a big retirement fund, maybe start up Feroz Promotions or somethin' like that
Agreed. Nando looked good early but just got progressively worse as the bout went on. It's bad when Castillejo, who is a solid fighter but is past his best, is almost landing combos at will on you after you've already cleaned his clock.
El Feroz of today isn't the same as the El Feroz of yesterday.
vargas looks very uncomfortable trying to not go to war..if h fights mayo he will get ktfo

De La Hoya is a shell of his former self, too. This is a good, big - budget matchup (DLH-Vargas II, which the program said could happen if Fernando won), but not the best 154 lbs. has to offer...
It would DEFINITELY be a big-$$$ promotion, about $20mil to Oscar and $10mil to Nando, maybe more if the PPV #'s go abouve 1 million....
I know I'm being a little too concerned here, these guys are "just boxers" after all, but nando is 1 clean punch away from serious health problems, and I've been a fan of his since I saw his pro debut on Tuesday Night Fights years ago, and i want him to make it thru his career without soundin like Tommy Hearns or Meldrick Taylor at the end of the day....
I never sid he didn't "look good" in the ring, I thought he fought a smart, skilled fight....but his verbal skills are going down the toilet, which is the 1st sign of pugilistic dimentia....
watch an interview (pre or post fight, doesn't matter) from recent time, then compare it to his interviews following the Quartey & Thompson fights, and then try to tell me that he doesn't sound punch-drunk....
did you ever see Riddick Bowe's post fight interview after the Golota rematch??? That's what last night reminded me of when Nando was talking
Hell, De La Hoya talks slower too, Tito stutters his spanish, after Corrales gets KO'd watch how slow he talks. Even the great Mayweather slurs at times. Pernal Whitiker you can barely understand him at all. Its boxing buddy. Those who still talk the same are lucky
He even said after the fight that the fans "want me to go to war, but I'm not gonna do it."
He is a boring fighter now. Sad, because he used to be really fun.
