Is it me or does it seem like more and more guys are trying to fight like Floyd? All of asudden Im seeing alot of guys use that stance and defense. Im not going to just say Floyd because Sr. taught him and he teaches some others to do it but damn. Since when did Vargas try to fight like that?
I think what they mean by stealing a fighter's style is when Fighter a has been fighting a certain way for the longest and all the sudden he see's fighter b and his style and he tries to use to it based on the fact that fighter b uses it so effectively.
i am not gonna lie i use the same style too when i spare and it works perfectly for me

You just did.
This is stupid..
there's no such thing as STEALING a style...
Im with you on that, nobody invented it. maybe somebody made it better or looks better than others at a certain move like the shoulder roll which is the move he uses.
Wait, what the hell am i talking about, if Floyd has a style, its a fast moving, quick reflexed boxer. That would be his style Floyd doesnt go out fighting doing shoulder rolls all day long
It just looks bad. If you take some things from that fighter it's okay, but if you try to study that fighter just so you can fight like them while they're still and active fighter, that looks bad. It's as if you can't find a way to do good in matches for yourself so you try to use what the next man uses....it especially sucks if you do a bad job at at.
I was trying to sound sarcastic towards the other poster when i asked Why not copy another fighter,
i know all you say its true, people make you out as unoriginal if you copy, fact is though, Mayweather did not invent the shoulder roll so nobody is copying Floyd
why not copy a new fighter,
anyways Mayweather didnt invent it, he didnt perfect it, it was being used by old school fighters way before Floyd and you know why, because if you knew how to use the shoulder roll, it worked, if it didnt work fighters like Mayweather wouldnt be using it or any other fighter

Mayweather is 2x better than Withaker in skill...
IWATCH!
Get it through your thick neanderthal skull already..
The Whitaker who fought Tito was shot. Past his prime in age/skill and weight.
In a pound for pound matchup both fighters at their best with weight being a non-factor Whitaker would have embarrased Tito.

same thing i thought about vargas..vargas is a power mans mayweather though..he dosent have the speed
Vargas look ugly doin it. Yuck, LOL.
That's why I have ma exciting fightas list. People that stand out. There's too many "AVERAGE FIGHTAS THAT WINS ALOT" right now.
Floyd Mayweatha's style to me is exciting. So fast to punch, so fast to avoid a punch.
Manny Pacquiao's style to me is exciting. Neva stops. Punch afta punch, afta punch, afta punch all of em havin ta intention to knock you out.
these 2 fightas stand out in terms of "style" in boxing.
Mayweather is the most gifted fighter in boxing, nobody like him skillwise
Manny_P is relentless as hell, heart of a lion, that why his fights are great, he never holds back, bloodied or not, even when hes hurt he comes to you, He showed so much courage vs Morales by attacking Morales, Thats why i as a Morales fan never rule out a fighter like PacMan, in my heart i got Morales winning, but i never discount Pac out cause he has a punch, in the back of my head, i know Pac can knock out Morales with his left, Pacquiao has heart.
Vargas look ugly doin it. Yuck, LOL.

People are using it because they see how good it works for PBF PERIOD.
Is that a fact, Did you ask those people, Who are these people that are using it it because of Floyd, where are their statements, in what websites and did you go around polling boxers are they using the shoulder roll cause of Floyd,
You dont think Floyd is using it cause he learned it from a trainer or saw it on a older fight. Is everything you stated absolute 100% Fact.

In my opinion, if you're going to try to copy a fighter for any reason, don't copy a present day fighter.

I'm suprised Mayweather didn't try and copy sweet pea...although it would have been really fuckin hard to try. That man had the most incredible reflexes and powerful legs that boxings ever seen.
Fighters would be better off borrowing elements of PBFs style rather than trying to wholesale copy it. Nothing wrong with studying Mayweather, cause a lot of his success is based on an outstanding grasp of the fundamentals of boxing. However, to try to copy floyd is not a great idea. Floyd is successful because he can execute his style instinctively, he does not have to think to doit. Very few other fighters would be as natural trying to fight that way. If Vargas and others can add a few tricks by watching mayweather, it is worth doing, but copying mayweather wholesale is not a recipe for success.
Ness, would you say Zab is copying Mayweather?
Mmm.. a little bit
He hasn't completely took his style, but he is doing things Mayweather does.
What would amaze me, though is if he can create and perfect his own unique style. With his combination of speed and power he can become something big...or bigger than he is now.
Agreed.
I think James Toney uses it way better.
I don't think Mayweather's best defensive asset is the shoulder roll, anyway. His head movement and picking shots off with his gloves is what he does best, in my opinion. Back when he use to move around the ring more that was another good thing for his defense...footwork.
Anyway, about the whole jab to the body thing. I think the reason why he says that is because back in the day fighters use to do it more like Sugar Ray, Hearns, and the other guys who use it like the two guys I just mentioned. They would have thier body sort of turned to the side and keep their head away from the other fighter while throwing a jab to the body in a sideway fashion as if they were trying to avoid getting hit. The way Mayweather does it is kind of different.

You kidding me? A lot of people used that shoulder roll before Mayweather and one who still uses it and uses it more effectively right now is James Toney.
Agreed.
