This talent is ridiculous.
Watching him spank a very good Diego Corrales, which I consider his best performance ever, and I just dont see too many weaknesses. Ever so often, such as the first Castillo fight, PBF isnt as sharp. Could be the hand issues, maybe he just had an off night. But still, I just dont see too many weaknesses.
He moves fast
He punches fast
He throws every punch in the book well
He blocks well
He slips well
He has good power, although not great
He doesnt lose composure
He doesnt seem chinny
He has amazing footwork, never off balance
He throws punches picture perfect
He doesnt hotdog in there and lose focus
He comes in great shape every fight
He has cobra reflexes
He goes to the body
He's a terrific counter puncher
WTF! This isnt fair! Other guys like Roy Jones were tremendous fighters bt their technical shortcomings were never exposed because they were such superior athletes. Mayweather does everything right.
I guess the biggest risk he faces is simply a matter of size; bigger guys walking through him and hurting him. Hattons rough house stuff COULD break him down some, that type of mugging can hurt anyone. The problem is other people have already tried that with Floyd but he manages to wiggle free and restablish himself.
So, if youre a trainer for an opponent of Floyds, where do you begin? Whats the game plan if youre guiding Ricky Hatton, Zab Judah, Carlos Maussa or Miguel Cotto? What weakesses do you see in PBF? How do you get him off his game and fight in ways he doesnt want to?
Thoughts?
hmm
mayweather lost to castillo
Yes, we know. What are you arguing about?
Everyone knows in their heart, no matter how big a Floyd fan they are, that Floyd LOST his first fight with Castillo. He redeemed himself in the rematch, but, for whatever reason (possible shoulder injury or just was not the better man that night) Floyd undeniably deeserved a LOSS vs Jose Luis Castillo in their first encounter.
Castillo already beat him Judah could beat him.If he tries to move up and fight Wright he would be destroyed.Alot of fighters could beat him.Robbing Castillo and Beating Corrales isnt enough for you to act like he is invincible.Infact no fighter is unbeatable. If you fight other good fighters you will lose i dont care who you are.
stop this bullshit
mayweather lost to castillo, thats it
bottom line, whether you like the decision or not, you have to live with it.
i love how floyd haters always bring this up...we will see in the next few years, and i cant wait
I don't know if we have really seen floyd throw any full on power shots to the head. It seems to me that he takes a bit off his shots so he can get in and out quicker and throw longer combos. This also explains his incredible accuracy. For the most part it seems that when he has someone in trouble he throws a hard shot to the body, ensures that the opponent (gatti, corrales, brusselles) can no longer move effectively and then just starts throwing moderately powered combos until the fight is stopped. You don't need to throw at full power when you can outland an opponent 10 to1 , in fact that is the only way he will get in trouble. I see no reason to believe he is incable of hitting a whole lot harder than he has demonstrated, but there is little reason for him to take that risk as it is not his style.
umm he fought three times at 140 and scored 5 knockdowns in 26 rounds. i'd say he has power
Yes but look at the fighters he dropped not exactly elite fighters, and the gatti one was more catching him off gaurd, he hit him much better in the following rounds but still never dropped him again.
His speed is the key
I disagree on the power i think he lacks power and strength at the higher weights.
Educated pressure will beat him, castillo nearly did first time round and there are better fighters than him at 140 and 147
I agree he is an amazing fighter but not unbeatable

Anticipation is the key
You can't beat the guy by outquicking him, his endurance is spectacular and you are probably not going to outthink him. The only way to give yourself a shot is to learn mayweather's core patterns as well as you can and make moves in anticipation of him acting on those patterns. Sure bet, no way, but at least you might land something big and get a shot at rattling him.
Let me add that Roy Jones has never been wrong when commentating on a fight. Never. Not once. If he has, show me the proof. He calls the shot that will finish the opponent and usually does so a good 5 rounds before it happens.
Toney vs. Ruiz - after one round, Roy said Toney would nail Ruiz with the right hand from the outside all night long. Spot on
Trinidad vs. Mayorga - Roy was calling for Trinidad to body shot Mayorga as early as the 2nd round and said Mayorga would be finished. 6 rounds later, Trinidad puts Mayorga down with the body shot
Hopkins vs. Allen III - Roy called the knockdown and the punch that did it before it happened
these are just some of the most memorable calls by Roy. I never go against anything Roy says unless he's talking about himself, because then he gets delusional
form your own true opinion of a fighter, true roy reads fights and fighters very well but nobody is 100% everytime, take on board what he says for sure but don't let it cloud your own judgement too much
Mayweather doesn't love his family much so it's not like the opposing camp can kidnap a relative of his and threaten to kill them unless Mayweather throws the fight, so I see no way Mayweather can lose.
Speed? Unmatchable
Power? Excellent (dropped all 3 opponents at 140)
Chin? Very good (took a solid shot from Corley)
Reflexes? Unmatchable
Ring smarts? Astonishing
Ring generalship? Probably 2nd best in the world to Winky
Heart? Never has had to show it in 30 or so professional fights
WHAT IS THIS MAN'S WEAKNESS? I'M DYING TO KNOW

Roy Jones and Jim Lampley agreed the man has no weaknesses. I don't know how much proof you need, but when those two make a statement and agree wholeheartedly on it, there is pretty much ZERO percent chance of it being otherwise.
Oh shit then thats it hes unstoppable if roy and jim think so

You can't beat a man with no weaknesses. The only way Mayweather loses if is he beats himself (doesn't train, gets cocky, etc)
No one in the world has a chance to hang with him one on one in a legit fight. Nobody.
Wanna give yourself a shot, WATCH CLIPS!
Mayweather is a talented and smart fighter, but quite frankly in the clips I have seen (burton, n'dou, gatti, corrales, Brusseles) his opponents seem not to have watched any film on him whatsoever or to have any semblance of a plan. Fighting like duran will help Hatton, but he will be far more dangerous if he recognizes the distinctive patterns of mayweather's movements (most notably the shoulder lowering to get to the chin of the opponent and explosion). If in response to this pattern one recognizes it and throws and undercutting shot to the body, it can be dealt with. There are several other distinctive patterns that can likewise be recognized. Surely Floyd is a smart fighter who can come up with additonal patterns (of course I have given only one of several examples) but a prepared opponent could at least make him think a bit and test him. Until this occurs, Floyd will be able to save money on cut men (starting feature of gatti fight, floyd's cutman did absolutely nothing beyond toweling him off.)
hmm
I think we another boxing reign like Roy Jones except Mayweather will fight good people.
Replace that with "except Mayweather has good people to fight" and you are right on. Lightheavy was not so talented in Roy's later years, but Floyd is surrounded by talent at 140. But anywho...
1) Floyd was already beaten. Castillo clearly and convincingly beat him in their first fight. Supposedly, Floyd injured his shoulder in this fight. Perhaps that explains why he won the rematch (although I never saw the rematch).
2) Floyd can definitely lose to good fighters in higher weightclasses (Margarito, Judah, Wright, Karmazin, etc).
3) It is by no means out of the question for Hatton to beat Floyd. Hatton has very short arms and can only overpower Floyd, but he has a chance.
4) Injury is a way for Floyd to lose.
floyd is great, but everybody losses sooner or later.... i think a world class, tall, boxer type would have a good chance to beat him, like vernon forrest.... oscar, shane and maybe even harris have a chance... otherwise, i think cotto would be a good match...
