DiBella said that Taylor "hasn't even scratched the surface" of what he is capable of doing in the ring. Firstly i'm not a Taylor hater or a Hopkins knut-hugger, by any stretch.
To these eyes, Taylor is not a naturally gifted FIGHTER. He is a gifted athlete, but it's easy to see that his skills in the boxing game are forced and programmed, not instinctive.
That overhand right he throws in closer in technique to Mayorga than Hearns, and his foot movement ressembles granny baby-stepping her way through the line at Lubby's on Senior Night.
His upper body movement is robotic...no feints(sp?), dips or rolling with the punches at all. If Hopkins had started throwing that right hand earlier in teh fight we would have been looking at a (T)KO.
Thankfully, for him, the middleweight division is thin as a sheepskin condom. I think that if the Bhop rematch comes off within the next 6 months, though, Hopkins may do to him what he should have done last weekend, even though i did have Hopkins winning the fight.
The only thing that truely pissed me off about Taylors win is that he did NO damage to Hopkins at all. I wanted to see him land at least 1 huge shot on Hopkins just to see how much power he really had but he couldn't do it.
yeah, so how do you win a fight without landing one significant punch???!!!?? how does that happen.....fix? and that right hand punch that had hopkins going into the ropes, i think in the second round, didn't even land,he trew the right and came around with a left, that missed, and pushed hopkins into the ropes. hopkins might have not thrown as many punches or landed that many in the first 7rds, but the ones he did throw and landed he made them count. also watch the 8th rd again, hopkins should've been awarded that round too! hopkins put the smack down on the inside. when i first saw the fight i gave it to talor, then watching it again, i saw that hopkins clearly dominated the round, fighting on the inside....
all in all, i don't think the taylor did enough to take the belts away, whatever happend to, you have to clearly beat the champ to win on the cards. fading in the championship rounds, getting outworked and almost ko'd, not landing any solid shots, holding on for dear life wins the belts!! i don't get it. hopkins should've gotten the decision i had it 116-112 hopkins. watch the fight again, without the sound of the hbo crew stroking taylor and look for clean and 'effective punching!', without being bias towards taylor and you'll see that hopkins was robbed.....
Fuckin THANK YOU!
God, the kid has had as many fights as Hopkins had TITLE FIGHTS. "Not a natural fighter"...Please dude, the kids the most impressive prospect out there...oh wait, I forgot he's not even a prospect anymore, he's the new middleweight champion of the world. You've never seen him in any other fights have you? Cause if you'd seen his destruction of everyone else you wouldn't question his natural ability.
"and his foot movement ressembles granny baby-stepping her way through the line at Lubby's on Senior Night."
PLEASE don't even try to convince me that Hopkins has great footwork...Just stop.
I have seen like 4-5 of his previous fights. I'm not hatin' on teh young buck. I'm giving an opinion that apparently many people agree with in one sense or another.
Regarding his destruction of previous opponents...yeah, i saw him batter inflated, aged jr middleweights.

Right on. In no way did Taylor "test" Hopkins in that fight. Hopkins didn't see anything he had never seen before. You can take Roy Jones out of the mix and the comment still holds true.
You are way off dude. He is a young guy with not that many fights. You act like he's in his prime and will be fighting this same way in a few years. Hopkins wasnt nothing at this age. You dont think the kid will get better every fight? Wasnt Hopkins much better at 35 then at 25? Taylor will win the rematch because he is just too physically gifted for Hopkins at this point in his career
You may be right. That's why i said i hope Dibella is right for Taylor's sake. Then again, i don't think he has the innate, instinctive boxing skills that will make him a "great" fighter. "Good", maybe. "Great", not.
If Taylor wants to hold on to the belts he better learn some defense. Taylor right now has no way of stopping that righthand. He's been open for it his entire career and Hopkins exposed that. He is also open for counter lefthooks when throwing his jab. That bow and arrow move that Hopkins was talking about seems to be a very natural move by Taylor. I don't see him fixing that too much and the way he fights with his left hand down he will always be open for the righthand unless he learns some defense. Hopkins was allowed to get away with it because he knew how to defend against Taylor's righthand.

he cant do it cuz he punches wide

I think when Hopkins is gone, Taylor will be the obvious #1 middleweight until good competition comes up. However, unless he truly does develope a style of his own and starts to change up his fighting ability mid match he's going to be in trouble. He's got the tools to become great, but unless he can get his mind on the right track he's not going to last too long.
but taylor been boxin his whole damn life he should be real close to his prime... he got a good jab and is athletic as hell..his right hand got power but its so fuckin wide he only threw 2 stragith right hands all night and they was supposed to fix this problem..if it aint taylor its pat burns cuz taylor is sloppy as shit ... he also stand square only can fight gone foward and cant counter.. and for the rematch taylor is sayin he not gone be as aggressive and save his energy he cant do that cuz thats the only way he can win rounds cuz hopkins will be able to be more accurate and can counter more easier..he said he was throwin every punch as hard as he could in the fight and thats the only reason he kept hopkins off till he ran out off gas..and he wasnt even connecting..he was lost twice in the fight ..the one time the ref saved his life when he turned his back turn around and almost walked in to and overhand right ..no reason for nady to do that taylor got hurt and turned his back wich is illegal pussy shit....taylor knows he lost but he thinks he can win the rematch but whateva he do hopkins will dominate if he dont use that youth and throw every punch as hard as he can...hopkins will knock taylor out
