fightnews has the compubox stats up... nard landed an average of 5 punches in rounds 1-8, while taylor landed and threw almost twice as many... i haven't seen the fight yet, but i think it punctuates the slow start by nard... nard would then dominate rounds 9-12... give nard rounds 9-12, plus two of the first 8 rounds, since some of them were real close, and it would be a draw at 6-6....
looking at the stats, the fight doesn't seem too exciting in rounds 1-8, also when the fight is so close its usually hard for me to call it a robbery, but i'll see this weekend..

B-hop WAS a technically great boxer without a doubt. Exciting to watch? Nah. The majority of people on this thread have called it right. Taylor shaded both fights cos he banked enough points early on. If yo are the self styled worlds best then you shold be good enough to stop your opponent when you're behind. Don't whine about it when you can't.
ye know, there are mo threads bout Hop fans bitchin and moanin than threads actually givin props to Jermain and discussin tis fight in a good manner. If tis continues I suggest the admin of tis website to start a new forum titled " Hopkins' fans Bitchin and Excuses Forum". It'll be a sure hit! nyahahaahaha!
you're on fire 2day!!! :)
seriosly though, THIS IS WHY BOXING won't become main-stream, even when we have great fights, all of the so-called "fight fans" would rather bitch and moan about the scorecards, rather than talk about how awesome the actual boxing match was.....and when fights don't end by KO, everybody who's a fan of the loser on the cards cries like a bitch, my response is "if your boy was soooo damn good he woulda won BY KO, shut the fuck up and refill my beer, slut!!!"...anyhow, let's increase the PEACE and give praise to Jermain for his outstanding title-winning effort

Agreed. And if you do, try not to perform fellatio on either, and then call fans of the other fighter "nuthuggers".
lol yes i hate that too. Calling someone a nuthugger for supporting a fighter is so childish and pathetic. Normally it gives you a clue to how much the poster actually knows about boxing and it normally turns out to be very little. ;)
enough threads about B-Hop and Taylor. PLEASE EVERYONE STOP MAKING THREADS THERE ARE AT LEAST 20 JEEEEEEEEZ

No Way
There is no way Jermain Taylor will beat B-HOP in rematch unless JT uses some dirty tactics of his own or hits him with one lucky from-way-down town hail mary shot. I mean i was just imagining the second fight in my head and all i can envision is BHOP hitting JT with the same shots he had him stunned with. Sorry JT and you JT NUTHUGGERS, but BHOP isn't done yet. Its still BHOP's era and after JT gets KTFO, then the next one in line can take his place. JT has now tasted what it feels like to be undisputed champ. Now come december or november, BHOP is going to take his belts back and whoop this lil boy's ass.
What did you just say..."X is an examination of one's boxing and blah blah blah". Dude yes the guy is a great boxer, but he's boring as fuck and has gotten by over the last several years because he fights guys with far less skills and when they are skilled they are naturally smaller dudes. He was inactive for too long Saturday....therefore he lost. Get in the fucking ring and pound the fucking kid outta there if your such a stud! He lost, deal with it!
well said daddy..I couldnt agree more! ;)
Yeah, excuse us for having a heart when we pick our favorite fighters. If everyone picked the absolute best boxer we wouldn't have discussions like this and boxing or any sport would be boring because there wouldn't be any confrontation.
Hopkins might just be the biggest fraud in boxing history. Most people never acknowledged or cared for him untill his Trinidad and De la Hoya fights. I don't know why so many people care for him, or the fight all together. To many people here go with their heart and not their brain.
Bernard hopkins never did move up to light heavyweight and held onto the middleweight title all his career. That just proves that he is not p4p best. Look at Mayweather he is already willing to fight Winky!
but a lot of the early rounds Bernard countered and hit Taylor with more affective shots. I dont remember Taylor hitting a Bernard with any good shots except the one that was in the back of the head, and Lampley screamed hes hurt.
No, they have a 10 point must system. And that's where B-Hop messed up because he screwed around in the earlier rounds. I think if we didn't have the 10 point must system and the judges watch the whole fight and then made their decision at the end of the fight Bernard should've won because he landed more effective punches. Hell, he landed more punches in general, but the slow start cost him is MW title.
When neither man is doing shit, the round should go to the fighter setting the tone in my opinion.
oh thats how it is? I didnt know thats how it worked i thought the fighter who got hit with the most and hardest punches would win a fight.
Taylor avg. 9 landed punches in rounds 1-8 Hopkins avg. 5 landed punches. If you wanna compare power punches, both had 4 rounds each where they threw more power punches than his opponent in rounds 1-8.
In rounds 9-12 it was total domination if you want to go by stats. Bernard 56 landed shots Taylor threw 23. 11 power shots by Taylor 47 by Bernard.
Final stats Bernard 78/217 36% Taylor 50-189 26%
I guess you have to give Taylor the early rounds since he threw and missed more shots than Bernard. I thought i knew about boxing, i didnt know missed shots counted that much.
Like many have already stated Ford was off in the 12 round but that wasnt the only round, if you want to scrutinize him for the 12 you can probably find an early round he gave to Hopkins which was wrong as well...
This fight was broken into two parts, each fighter owned a part of the fight and Hopkins fans are having a tough time excepting defeat because his part of the fight that he owned was done in more dominant fashion...
Unfortuantely he did not dominate a round in such a way where a 2 point round could be given therefore he got smashed for his very very cautious start...
Nard, even though he could have easily been given the decision has no one too blame but himself. Had he of started off faster he may have been able to KO Taylor but he smelled that right that Taylor was throwing with Bad intentions early on and he choose to play the first half of the fight totally safe.
It is going to be a very entertaining rematch where both fighters are going to have to make big adjustments, cant wait!
I can't wait to see it Sat night. After I've listened to just about every angle on this forum and from news sources and friends, it sounds like Hopkins just didn't expect Taylor to be around at the end of the fight and it came back to nip him in the butt.
I'm definitely going to order the rematch when I get back to school. Should be a classic...
Boring?
X is an examination of one's boxing technique and correctness. Nothing boring about the technical perfection of Bernard Hopkins.
I agree with you completely!
On the other hand in Nard's last few fights he has been slow early on he is throwing 15-25 punches a round...and it has been ok because guys like Oscar and Eastman were not pressing him or outthrowing him...
You had to figure when a fighter came in against Hopkins and threw more punches per round by a decent margin and mixed in some huge right hands and some flurries (note the right never landed flush but it didnt have too) that fighter would have a good chance at picking up those type of rounds...
this is what Taylor did, it was a weakness in the puppet masters game that Taylor was able to exploit.
