all people remember is those last 4 rounds. people seems to easily forget that Taylor dominated 7 out of the first 8 and as you see in my profile pic had Bhop looking like a chump.
Hopkins is a legend and has done a lot of great things but folks THERE IS A NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN!
I just watched it. Hopkins landed more punches through that fight, and more power shots. The kid was throwing punches and missing on a lot of them. His connect percentage wasn't very good. The half of the fight was close, with a slight edge going to Taylor. The 7/8 rounds were very close. The last four rounds were dominated by Hopkins. I think it should have been a draw, at least. Taylor did not deserve a win. You have to take a fight from a champion. You can't take a fight from a champion by losing the championship rounds. Honestly, I've never seen a title get given away like that. MY Thoughts exactly! A young DLH would not have gotten the decision again JCC if the fight was fought the same way. BOTTOM LINE IS TAYLOR DID NOT DO ENOUGH TO TAKE AWAY A 12 YR REIGN WITH THAT PERFORMANCE. Alot say that Taylor won 7 of first eight but rounds like 3, 7, & 8 were very close & if one of those was scored for Hopkins then at least it is a draw.
I didn't think you scored it a draw to be honest. I disagree with that score but find it acceptable. I think we are on the same page now. I get ya.
sorry, I though I had posted that already...114-114. As in, not enough to take the champs belts. the other guy I debated this issue with for like 4 straight days finally decided my score wasnt too bad either, and he was die hard jones, all the way!
Yah ... I know that technically, Taylor probably one the fight on points. But usually, in championship fights, the judges kind of BS around that, and the challenger has to dominate to get their title. This is just one of the problems I have with the way boxing is scored. I think Hopkins proved he was the better fighter, even though, by the rule book, the kid probably won, slightly. The kid threw a lot of punches that missed. His connect percentage was terrible, and he didn't land very many good shots. But he looked busy, and looking busy can win you rounds, because defense doesn't count for much on the score cards. I just thought it was a bad way to hand so many titles over to someone.
Isnt that pretty much the same complaint that so many DLH fans had over his 2nd loss to Mosley?? shane threw less, but they landed and were harder, etc. Get my point?? I'm not trying to confuse on purpose (it come quite naturally :D )
hmm

I'm just callin' it like I see it. Why can't you stand Tarver. I thought for sure you would love the guy since he stopped Roy.
I love that he stopped jones, but dont much like the ego he 'stole' from jones by doing it. If you really want to know, I disliked Jones so much, and for so long, that when tarver ko'ed him I cried like a baby! So the fact that I was actually unbiased enough to score the first fight a draw at all should tell you youre being unfair in saying I forget how to score when it's jones! The 10 pts must system rules, and I know exactly how to use it.
Yes, the final 3 rds are the most important, but I add mine up after each rd...and thats why I had taylor winning by a slim margin. Otherwise, I'd have to go back and take a few rds from taylor, just to accomidate nards winning the final rds. I dont do that..once I've added that rd up, it stays.

sticks and stones?? and you started the shit...I'm just responding to it. As for tarver, I cant stand the bastard. Good enough for you?

Mic- you have those compubox stats wrong man. Taylor out landed Hopkins in the 7 out of 8 rounds he won.
I'm just going by what Jim Lampley said about the first round. That's actually the only round that I know the stats and of course the final stats.
You are a hypocrite if you are trying to say Tarver's belts were taken away but Hopkins' were not. If that's what you say, then yes, you are.
On a side note, sticks and stones... :boxing:
Maybe you're a biased Tarver fan? Who knows...

this reminds me of the good old days when Tracy had bitter arguments with a canadian guy about Roy Jones v Tarver...help me out, what was his name? One of the original BS wars I believe.
the one and only 'No Hero'...we settled that, so I'm not about to get into it yet again (atleast he didnt call me a hypocrit)
You know md, I actually kind of miss his posts. We became buds after that cause we agreed to disagree, and he said atleast I had the guts to post my scorecard (which I did) and the funny thing is we only disagreed on a couple of rds! Which is why he had jones winning and I had it a draw.
I thought Jones won even though it was a while ago since I've seen it. It was definitely competetive and close through the entire fight. And that's the difference between Jones Tarve 1 and Hopkins Taylor 1. Taylor won the first rounds of the fight slightly, without landing many really good shots. He just landed a few more jabs. But in the end, Hopkins was the one dominating in the tell-tale rounds, and landing the best shots of the fight with his counter-right, repeatedly. Taylor was hurt and tired, Hopkins was not. I agree, the way boxing is scored, the kid probably did have an edge in points. But really, the way the kid won was not the way a champion should be crowned. To take someone's title, you should have to be competetive through the entire fight. Hopkins was having his way with him in the championship rounds.

lol
Oh, so now I'm a hypocrit??? Guess that makes you a biased Jones fan, right? See, I never would have pointed that out before, since name calling aint my 'thing'

Nope, didnt forget a thing...I scored that fight 114-114, a draw. Nobody 'forgets' how to score.

Yeah right. Jones won the championship rounds in the first fight. TracyLee, I see you forget how to score a fight when it comes to Jones-Tarver. Flurries don't win a round. The fight was close but not as close as Taylor-Hopkins, which I had 116-115. Tarver wasn't a REAL champion in the fight with Roy anyway, Roy was still seen as champ who had just taken a break from holding the belts.
And also as with Hopkins-Taylor, the majority felt Jones won, except the margin was greater. All admitted it was a close fight, but when it comes down to it, even 80% of the Boxingtalk members (a site notorious for Jones hating) admitted Jones won.
Either way, it was a close fight, so no one was robbed. Sorry. Don't start being a hypocrite just because you don't like Roy.
Nope, didnt forget a thing...I scored that fight 114-114, a draw. Nobody 'forgets' how to score. H wasnt a 'real' champ?? Bullshit, he had the belts, and was introduced last, if I recall correctly.
