He's not a damn judge, and he didn't award himself the win.
People keep acting like he's a fluke.
He stepped up to his first big fight against HOPKINS of all people, and won! I don't care if you think it was a bad decision, he got in the ring with Hopkins and did his thing.
I find it amazing that people are getting down on his style, when before people were saying he wasn't ready! Doesn't that make it all the more impressive? He is still a RAW talent that needs to be polished, yet he just took the title away from the man who held it for a DECADE.
Taylor from here will only get better, as he does in every single fight. He just keeps improving and working hard. Hell, I expected a few more fights before he even stepped up for the title.
Give the man some credit, he's a young and relatively inexperienced fighter who just stepped in the ring with the most dominant and intimidating fighter going right now.
This was a HUGE step up for Taylor, and given the circumstances, I'd say he passed this test with flying colors. Yeah, he can get sloppy, but that all comes with experience, as does learning how to pace yourself and calm yourself. When you're out there hyped up and excited, your punches drain you twice as badly. NOW he's been there, and he knows how to handle himself.
Put him in the ring with any other Middle right now, and I gaurantee an ass-whooping. Hopkins is a whole different animal, but he did what he had to do and he won the fight.
Just give him some credit already!
Maybe "discrediting" is a better word. People act like Taylor just stood still and did nothing to win.
He was the one who pressed the action in the early rounds as Bernard was doing his wait and bait thing. He wanted to get Taylor out of there late in the fight, but JT stood his ground and held on when he had to. After losing blood and being winded as hell, he hung on like a man and finished the fight.
I don't think Hopkins counted on Taylor hanging in there in the late rounds, and that is what ultimately cost him the fight. He started slow, sure, but he usually does. He sets people up for the finale, but this time the finale didn't finish the job.
It would have been different if Taylor won in spectacular fashion like an early KO. But he didn't and it was a close fight. It's not hating it's more difference in opinions that's all.
Well, said.. I am not HATING on JT, I don't hate him at all, yes he is the champ now, I can not deny it, I don't think he won the fight is all; it is my personal opinion and I have a right to it.
Call me a nuthugger but thats just the way I saw it.

Nobody is mentioning the fact that... his corner was telling him "WE NEED THIS ROUND..."
and they were also giving him advice
"Keep that Jab on him; he's just looking for the right hand"
... he didnt keep jabbing.. i just didnt understand why he would stop doing something he was doing so well...
He WAS still immature during this fight.. (in my opinion he hasnt been in a real brawl or a scruffy fight)... he's been in these clean fights where he would be so much better that he would dominate.
I think he'll be a different Jermain Taylor in the rematch.
He'll be the Champion Jermain Taylor hahahaha.....
This is what I'm talking about.
Can you not give the man any credit for taking this fight and not only surviving and performing rather well, but winning?
and also fo bein humble befo and afta the fight. Tayler definitely should get mo fans afta tis fight.
nice one man. Read my sig fo infos who thought Tayler would get bust by Hop (there's mo peeps but my sig wont allow too many letters). It was a close fight. Hopkins can win the remtach if he tries to win all the rounds. He can't slack.
Yeah, I think the people who have followed Taylor's whole career for the most part are the ones who knew he had a chance to pull out an upset.
I agree that Taylor shouldn't receive ill will from Hopkins fans. He went out and did his thing and two of those judges thought that he did enough. It's not his fault that the fight has a bit of controversy.
Hopkins Toyed with him. Hop beat himself tonight, he was too cocky and confident and played around too much. Much more than he should have.
