Judge Rules Williamson is Chris Byrd's mandatory!
By G. Leon
July 12, 2005 - Moments ago, Judd Burstein informed Boxingtalk.com that Judge Martini has upheld the IBF's decision to mandate DaVarryl Williamson as Chris Byrd's mandatory challenger. Former WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, who sued the IBF trying to enforce himself as mandatory, will have to wait in line. According to Judd, his nephew Devin Burstein, who represented Williamson, played a prominent role in the judges decision. REMEMBER WHERE YOU HEARD IT FIRST! (10:00 AM EST)
I believe this is great, I feel that Williamson was more deserving because he fought better opposition and was more active and the Klitschko fight was really insignificant in the decision. Either way, great move and I am excited to see Williamson vs Byrd, Williamson might actually be the one to steal it...Call me crazy but I think it will happen.
Also, it is about damn time the Klitschkos doesnt get there way. They are on a path to destruction...WBC is enforcing Vitali to fight the winner of the Barret/Rahman fight.
i think wlad fans might point out two things actually.
1. wlad has beaten williamson. so according to your statement, williamson isnt anyone meaningful, yet you think hes more deserving of a title shot, thats funny, you contradict yourself.
2. williamson was knocked "out cold" in the 1st round by joe mesi, which is absolutely embarassing. i hope somebody can throw up the pic of TOS asleep on his back in the middle of the ring.
i think this decision goes to show how afraid don king is of wladamir klitschko. obviously at the very least there should be a rematch for the number 1 ranking. instead they have given the shot to TOS, i think he will beat Byrd narrowly and it will allow Byrd to retire without having been embarrassed by wlad.
wlad klitschko will be an annoying name to non-fans for a long time for this reason. He will never be consistent enough to be a champion for an extended period and he will never unify, yet he will always have the potential to beat anyone he steps in the ring with and will probably hold belts here and there for the rest of his career. (If he ever gets a shot again)
Nowhere in my post did I say ANYTHING about TOS deserving a shot.
Neither of them do.
The point I made is very valid.
Everytime I pointed out Wlad was beaten by two poor fighters in his last 6 fights and didn't beat anyone meaningful inbetween or since, all I hear is about "That's the IBF's decision, not yours".
Well here you go. This is the IBF's decision, so you Klit fanatic clowns can put this in your pipe and smoke it.
Wlad will need to fight to get close to a title shot, and that's the way it should be.
If I had my way, I wouldn't like to have seen either of these guys get a shot.
They should have fought eachother again, because this "win" Wlad holds of TOS was a SPLIT techincal decision, where Wlad was on the canvass for the 5th time in 6 fights.

Can i be the first to do it? Your CRAZY! :) j/k. I dont like Byrd, but TOS is garbage and it's gonna be a shitty fight. No matter how is ranked where, Byrd is scurrrrrred of Wlad.
I think this is great.
Everytime I point out that Wlad Klitschko has been stopped in two of his last six fights and hasn't beaten anyone meaningful inbetween or since, some Wlad fan points out:

I was referring to after their fight not over their whole career.
Why does it seem like no matter what, that the common fans of the klitchkos fail to read and interpet logic, logic says, Wlad hasnt been that active, logic says, recently TOS has been relatively active fighting higher opposition, not so much hes beaten better fighters in his career, just recently, hes been more active.

Thats only right...as it should be ;)
Now that this has been resolved, is Chris Byrd going to put his belt up against Williamson? If he doesn't then the IBF is nothing but a bunch of puppets. That motherfucker Byrd has been milking this belt for the longest time. I hope he fights Williamson and TOS kicks the shit out of him.
...I will definitely be rooting for TOS. Expect another BS decision win for Byrd though.

Since the Klitschko fight, Williamson has fought for a IBF ranking against Jefferson and fought Oliver McCall and Klitshcko has fought a blown up Cuban that carried no significance.
The whole situation would be looked at differently if Klitscko fought the same opponents as Williamson. Everybody knows Wlad going to court is a bitch move.
No different than what Lennox Lewis has done on more than one occasion. Would you call him a bitch for that? Probably not. Nothing but a double standard from certain fans view points.
I think this is great.

"Hey, its the IBF's rankings, they make the decisions, not us".
Well here you go.
They made a decision, and since Wlad Klitschko has no business being anywhere near a title fight after getting embarassed in two of his last six fights, this is bittersweet.
...Based on the initial info that the judge suggested that Wlad and Williamson fight it out, I figured this case was a foregone conclusion.
I think this is great.

I don't like Chris Byrd, I think he is overated and over prices himself.
I am a fan of Byrd but he doesnt act like championship material. Hell none of the heavyweight champs do except Ruiz....Possibly Brewster
Say what you want about Wlad Klitchko (personally I think he is all thru as a real legitimate unification threat) but to say that TOS has fought better opposition is just being blind.
Wlad has beaten, check that whipped Byrd once already, he absolutely destroyed Monte Barrett, made Jameel McCline look like a bitch but yet you say Davaryl has foguth the better opposition.
Maybe if you think guys like Robert Wiggins and Derreck Jeffferson are better than you are right.
Yup Wlad was iced by Brewster and Sanders but Williamson has been ced by Mesi and I dont know who.
Williamson fought better opposition, WRONG!
Neither man deserves the ranking, RIGHT!
I was referring to after their fight not over their whole career.
who did jefferson and mccall beat to get a higher rank than an undfeated castillo who beat michael moorer??? in the last few years i didnt even know they were active...
...Yeah, that one I can't figure out for the life of me. There were also a ton of people on here saying that Castillo was the real deal and he was gonna beat Wlad blah blah blah. Then after Wlad beats the guy he is a blown up cruiser and he sucked. lol lol lol Good luck for Wlad getting a decent ranking when the IBF comes out with their new updates. He is gonna drop like a rock. This may just freeze him out of ever coming near a title shot again.

i cant recall a single contender that TOS has beaten

...Yep, bullshit decision. More King influence freezing out the brothers. I can see Byrd and his wife dancing around hand in hand because he doesn't have to get embarrased by WK again. Wlad needs to look to a top ten guy now and try to make some noise. The problem is that he is high risk and still kind of low reward at this point.
