It is too bad there is no "Journeyman" category in the Boxing Hall of fame. Augustus has been one of the most consistently entertaining fighters in the sport. Because he is always screwed over and hard on his luck....he is also a GUY EVERYONE likes to root for.....unless you are a fan of his opponent.
Augustus have shown us who the REAL fighters were out of those who fought them. How a fighter performs against Emanuel Augustus tells us alot about them. Where the decision goes after an Augustus fight tells us alot about the comission in that state where he fights.
Anyone got any great memories of Emanuel Augustus' fights?
2. Ward (what a great fight...two of the most entertaining journeymen ever going at it)
My two favorite journeymen of all time hands down. Ward and Augustus. Moreso Micky ward.

hmm
Augustus' recent string of success would not make him an unworthy opponent for any of the top 140 lbs fighters in my opinion.
I'd like to see him vs Cotto or Hatton. It would not be out of the question for him tobeat one of those guys in my opinion.
Augustus is great, although sometimes he fucks about too much (it is entertaining though but seems to piss off the judges)...I would love to see him fight Hatton but the fight would make no sense for Hatton....Augustus looks bad on paper, the fight would not draw big numbers, and he could actually lose is Augustus came in focused...even Mayweather said he was a tough fighter...
i've been saying it for years, that his record doesn't represent him well at all. the man's record is shit, but when you watch him fight, your like, is his record right??? this guy can fight! well too. plus he entertaining.
i like when he fights and gets that rhythm going, he actually makes it more of a sport than a fight game, cause he's in the ring having a good time. not trying to be all serious and acting like a stuck up over confident prick like a lot of fighters.
he has a solid chin, and always comes to fight a 100%, even taking fights on short notice.....
he is a true warrior, a drunken master if you will, like they said a fnf's. and they don't make fighters like him any more...there is only a short list of real true to the bone fighters and he is in the think of it!!! much respect to Augustus, and the fighters like him..... Ray Olivera is one of those kind of fighters too, giving it his all, mad respect to him as well....
Yah, if he learned to stop taking so many unecessary punches, he could be much higher in the ranks. He seems to have all of the quickness and footspeed to be able to avoid and block punches more, but it seems more like he chooses not to.
Edit: I just watched his most recent fight today, and I'd only ever seen two before that. I saw the fight against Ward, and I saw another where he lost a decision, because of all his clowning in the ring. Not that I want him to stop clowning, but I think the judges don't like it sometimes. Anyway, he seemed to fight very differently in each fight. It's almost as if he's boxing without a trainer, and just does whatever he feels like.
Emmanuel is the man. if he only learned how to put his hands up he would be a very very serious competitor (not that he isnt now) but by doing such he could walk right into even bigger things (Titles and the likes) No matter what he is definitely one of my favorite and most entertaining fighters to watch.
let's start bangin' the drum to have Emmanuel substitute for Branco and fight COTTO later this year! That would be, on paper, one of the most entertaining possible match-ups!!!
Anyhow, I became an Augustus fan the night he and Mickey Ward went to war, still the best ESPN2 fight in history IMO, Letterlough-Gonzalez is a close 2nd
My favorite Augustus fights....
1 - VS Ward - Augustus showed he is just as much warrior as he is clown.
2 - VS Burton - AT the end of this fight, Burton had a look in his eye like he had been raped.
3 - VS Wilches - Augustus takes the fight on two days notice and stops the guy. Beautiful.
every fight that has augustus in it is a classic, i love watching him fight, especially when he does the "puppet stuff"( that's what micky ward calls it). augustus is the drunken master of boxing
Thats my motherfucking man right there!!
Agustus is the best. I have never once seen him in a bad fight.
My favorite memories are
1. The Ward fight. FOY and you can make a damn good case he won that fight.
2. Turning his back against Alex Trujillo and coming out of the turn landing a straight right.
3. Going into Courtney Burton's hometown and clowning him as bad as any fighter has ever been clowned.
Yea I just saw the fight between him and Micky Ward, which was very entertaining and turned out to be ring fight of year for 2001.
you have this fight ?
