Obviously he needed to remain with his hands up in the first round when he got knocked down. That was his fault all the way. Also he shouldn't have been trying to always go after Mayweather. He should've just worked off his jab aiming at Floyd's shoulders so that in the later round his arms would be killing him so that Gatti may sneak in power shots when the pretty boy tried to rest them.
i would have been in Floyds chest all night. I would get real close smuther him. I would hold him and put all my body weight on his arms. I would have thrown 100 punches each round making sure i hit something everytime, either his face ribs arms hands anything. I would also throw a lot of quick elbows and forearms. Everytime i would tie up i would make sure i would slam my shoulder into him. And during the fight i would try to throw him on the floor 1 or two times like Kostya did to Shamba Mitchell in their 1st fight.
exactly. good analysis.

I would have gone down in the first minute and saved a lot of pain! :)
There is and was, nothing that he could have done. He doesn't and never had the talent or ability to beat PBF!
There's always someone around the corner who is better!
Gatti should've brawled, but it wouldn't have made a difference. Floyd would've ended the fight much sooner. If Gatti had brawled, then the fight would've been more exciting. I'm sure Gatti thought about brawling, but he wasn't willing to risk taking more punishment.
If Gatti hadn't been head hunting so much, he probably could have landed more punches. I know Mayweather is really good at covering his body though. Would be interesting to see some heavy puncher fight Mayweather and see what he can do by banging on his arms. I would really like to see a slugger fight Winky Wright, and just pound his arms and shoulders when he tries to block and see what happens.
Floyd wouldn't let him brawl, everytime Gatti would open up to punch floyd hit him with 2 or 3 counters to the face, there was nothing he could do at 33 against a prime mayweather who basically fought the fight of his life, he never looked better or faster than that. everytime arturo threw a big right, he either got countered to death or floyd was nowhere near him to get hit by the punch. I love Gatti and hate Floyd, but there was absolutely nothing Gatti could do in that ring to beat floyd that night, period!
You may be right, Gatti might not have won no matter what he did.
My point was, he was getting hit and was going to get hit no matter what he did. he was losing the fight badly so he should have just let his hands go whether he got countered or not. It's not like Floyd could have hit him much more than he already was.
Nothing Gatti should have fought like he does in all his other fights. He needed to brawl for this one and instead chose to box....Idiot
I agree completely. He couldn't avoid Floyd's punches no matter what he did so he should have just tried to make a brawl out of it.
No doubt Gatti had to brawl, though I think Gatti got comfortable with how his last few fights went by using his boxing skills. He thought he could easily get through this one with his plan he and Buddy came up with althuogh Gatti completely failed to execute. I think Gatti understands his age is catching up with him and rather go out of boxing with little injuries as possible. Apparently that didn't happen vs Floyd though...
Well, Gatti didn't look too bad in the 1st round until the knockdown. The knockdown was pretty much his own fault. I think it threw him off a lot, and he really abandoned his game plan. He should have kept his cool and stuck with his plan another round, but I guess he felt he had to play catchup. His biggest problem is the way his eyes swell. Once his eyes start swelling, it's over against a fighter of that calibre, and it doesn't take a lot to make his eyes swell up. I really don't think he can go 12 anymore, just cuz of the eyes. Gatti should have fought like Marciano, and instead of hitting the head, he should have hit the body, the arms and the shoulders. I think a heavy puncher could do well against a boxer like Mayweather by pounding his arms and body. You don't see too many guys going after the shoulders anymore.
Edit: But even then, his chances of winning were slim, I think.
No no no no,, Remember its an injury. He had one of his spinal disc removed and it wont heal until rahman retires or James Toney is banned from boxing. On top of that he got leprosy which isnt curable until Oleg Maskaev signs to fight.
CLASSIC POST!
Why give it up? The WBC is home of Vitali Klitchko. If he doesn't have to fight contenders why should Gatti?
good point, but even the WBC will cave in sooner than later, Floyd had been #1 contender for over a year
This is absolutley correct. The only hope of a chance gatti had was to use roughhouse tactics. He needed to come out and throw Floyd against the ringpost and wail away on him like Duran did to leonard the first time out. He needed to use the other veteran tactics as well. WHen you clinch hit the guy on the thigh on the opposite side from the referee (So that you dont get DQ'd). and he also needed to use Rocky Lockridges strategy when he fought Mayweather Sr. He said he couldn't hit him cause he was so fast so he just tried to hit anything. and guess what? He actually caught him on the chin when he was trying to move and put him out shortly after. You have to let your hands go when a guy is that much faster than you. (Check Glencoffe vs Jones) You will eventually hit them somewhere. (augustus vs Mayweather and Castillo vs Mayweather pt 1)
Great points, that is exactly what Gatti SHOULD have tried to do, I think it's clear that Gatti has lost that warrior's mentality, and really by no fault of his own, Gatti's wealthy now and doesn't have the hunger to win the big fights, I think it was Marvelous Marvin that said that it's "hard to get up early in the morning and do road work when you're wearing silk pajamas"....Gatti's a rich man and has no reason to go to war with a world-class fighter when there's a Ferrari in the driveway and no mortgage payment....did you see the Countdown show on HBO? Did you hear what Gatti's motivation was vs. Wilson Rodriguez? Gatti had just ordered a car and needed to pay for it still, so that's why he fought thru the swollen eye, pretty sad if you ask me, but it was a classic nonetheless and it was one of the reasons why Gatti got $3mil+ to sell his belt to a superior fighter on the 25th, becuase of the chance that maybe the unexpected would occur, but obviously Floyd ain't no Wilson Rodriguez!

he didn't have many options apart from turning the fight into a street ball.....i don't know why he didn't attempt this, considering that castillo did this and whipped pbf's ass in the first fight with these tactics.

He should have gone all out since the start of the fight. Give him everything to try and scare mayweather. Keep the pressure all night long and forget about trying to box.
