Despit his long answer, overall Hatton is not willing to fight the winner in the states. Floyd in a recent interview challenged Hatton to fight in NYC at MSG. Tonight Hatton just said that him and Kostya sold 22,000 tickets and a fight with Floyd or Gatti could be held in an outdoor stadium over in his side of the world and sell like 60,000 tickets. He mentioned Kostya being a champ and traveling to defend his title in the challenger's home country etc. But I don't think we will be seeing Hatton on this side for some time.
His accent doesn't sound Irish at all, it sounds pure Mancunian.
He was born and bred in Manchester, England.
haha it does a slight bit i would know i have irish relatives from dublin talk to them once in a while and he sounded a little bit similar
Fuck that bitch. The challenger should go to the chamo, not the other way around. He'll never get respect if he doesn't fight center stage in America. All the other great Europeans came here and fought, and are recognized for it. Right now, he's getting a lot at home for fights; if he came here and won, he'd make just as much, if not more than at home, with MUCH more exposure.
Well the one time that he did come over there i think he got a 2nd round stoppage/KO so whats all that about. I say keep it where the money is, he aint gonna come over there and fight for less cos u so-called experts say he will get more exposure. He has agents which no more about exposure than all of you put together, who market him etc. I say whatever the decision is, if these American fighters are so blindingly amazing then they will beat him anywere the fight is staged. Or is the location just used as an excuse if a fighter losses and proves the "experts" wrong?
You sure as hell aren't talking boxing.
Fuck olympic boxing. That shit is basically built so we cant win, the scoring is bullshit, and the fact that knockdowns and body punching dont play much of a factor in olympic boxing, oh, and style and aggression dont mean shit neither, its built so we cant win. Think about all those euro gold medalists that are 27/30 years old but never turned pro, think of all the olympians we have had win silver/bronze/nothing and became credible in the pro circuit.
Even in olympic basketball, they do shit so that the way we play here wont succeed, but thats another discussion and thread.
Well, then look at the giant land mass and population difference there. Compare that to Europe.
We better be churning out more champs than they do. Or else we really suck.
...The thing is though, Europe doesnt have as many attractive sports as in north america. Europe has Futbol as its number 1 sport without a doubt then maybe rugby, and possibly some curling. But think of the atheletic makeup of football/baseball/basketball/hocket etc. There are far more possibilities that are available here sportswise than europe. Granted, id say they probably care less about sports than we do, im just saying, there are far more oppurtunities to do something atheletic than in europe when it comes to advancing into something professionally, not to mention, america itself dominates the olympics, while that doesnt include mexico and puerto rico, im just saying when it comes to atheletes of an elite level, we have no shortage.
We do?? Take a look at a list of current beltholders. Not as many Americans as you may think.
I just don't see the big problem with Hatton making his defenses at home. Especially the big ones. I'm not saying he should be like Dariusz Michalczewski--hiding out his whole career, but he deserves the right to have some performances at home.
If he winds up staying at the MEN his whole career, then I'll call him on it. Until then this is all a bunch of poppycock. If Mayweather or Gatti or Harris or Cotto or anyone want to beat the man, they need to take their ass over there and do it.
By america, i really mean north america, as in including puerto rico and mexico
Corruption in boxing is everywhere, but some places its gonna be more than others, but when you fight in your hometown all the time, thats like Man U playing every game in Old Trafford if they won the Champions League.
I know i was just trying to wind someone up :D
This place is the boxing center of the world, you dont have to accept it, but its true. The media coverage is extensive on nearly every fighter.
Its the most popular in the US for most fights, not all fights, but i agree for most.
Fighting and winning in a place like MSG or Atlantic City is far more prestigous than MEN arena. People know this is the place to be to make money and to gain respect. When your respected here, thats millions of new fans. It would be stupid not to fight here. Either stupid, or just pussy.
The opponent you fight earns you the respect, thats my opinion anyway, i know more US fans give a shit when its i there country but if a fighter wants to fight on home soil then it shouldnt be such a big deal. Its not like Hatton fighting in Germany were its known for really bad decisions.
Where should Tszyu have fought, Australia?? Its a champions right to fight anywhere he wants so when did America come into it??
Tszyu's clever and knew where the money was, if Floyd's as smart as he says he is going to be in the UK fighting Hatton, fighting for £'s and not $'s, ticket prices are twice as expensive in the UK and the fight would also sell twice as many tickets.
Calzaghe's been the king as supper middle for year but he knew that Germany's ticket prices are more expensive and that they could sell more tickets for the Veit fight there, so he went there, its all about money!!
Its about time your protcected fighters leave their backyard anyway, if Hatton fights Corrales he'd have to KO him out cold or he'd get a home town 30 second count like he did against Castillo OR a DLH style decision like when Sturm was robbed OR When the Tyson ref took points away from Williams for nothing didnt start the count until after 10 seconds of Tyson being down!! The list does on and that shit doesnt happen in the UK.
I DONT wanna here anything about the mecca of boxing either, because unless your talking about the nation of islam the word means a place where many people go to = where the most fans are which would be the UK for Mayweather vs Hatton.

I knew as soon as Hatton won that the 140lb division was fucked for life. Hatton is NEVER going to fight the other champions unless it's on his turf. Fuck Tszyu for letting this happen. Quitter

I hate Hatton with the white-hot heat of seventeen suns going supernova but guess what.....HE'S THE MAN.
Would I like to see him defend his title here? Of course.
Do I think he's bound by some halfassed rule saying European fighters must defend their titles in the States? Hell no---especially for a potential fight against Mayweather or Gatti. Why just give away that advantage? That would be moronic.
He's doing the same thing any American champion has done for ages. He wants his fans, family, and friends to reap the benfits of having one of their own finally 'make it'. He wants to bring them more big fights, where's the sin in that?
Fighting here removes the astericks that you cant fight outside of your little european hometown.
See in america, when you fight here, we arent a small country, and from coast to coast, city to city, huge grudges are held, think about PBF fighting Gatti, PBF i think is from philly, so him going to atlantic city, that aint his turf, they gonna be all over his ass.
Im from oakland, if i go fight in new york, they are gonna boo me like crazy, because thats a world away on the east coast.
So basically, America is such a huge country with so many different atmospheres, and we have so many fighters to cheer for, unlike England, we dont need to hype up every champion we have, for every one who loved RJJ, there were many more that hated him. America isnt the UK, we churn out champions on a daily basis, whereas the UK gets a few credible ones ONCE in a while. I respect Hatton, but ill respect him more if he fights here.
If Hatton wants to fight america's best in is own back yard then so be it, its his right as champ. At least he is willing to fight the best fighters out there and not just beat up on fighters the world has never heard of.
Any fighter knows going into a fight with Hatton that there will be mugging, grappling, and it will be a very physical fight. If you as a fighter can not beat him when he uses those tactics, dont bitch about it, just do not fight him. I dont want to see a ref strip Hatton of his fighting style, I want the next champ to beat him like a man. Make Hatton stop mugging and wrestling, dont look for a favoriable ref.
I knew as soon as Hatton won that the 140lb division was fucked for life. Hatton is NEVER going to fight the other champions unless it's on his turf. Fuck Tszyu for letting this happen. Quitter
hatton who
How does this guy hatton beat old azz tzou at wrestling and now he's a great matchup for sumone,,,,that fight wasnt a blowout it was competitive against tzou,,,against mayweather he will get destroyed,,,bring no irsh ,,,scotish punk azz into no real fight,,,best P4P for a reason,,u kilt wearin mutha phuka :boxing: ........
He sounded irish to me does anyone know if hes originally from ireland or has irish heritage
His accent doesn't sound Irish at all, it sounds pure Mancunian.
He was born and bred in Manchester, England.
If the fight happens they need to get a fair ref, not like that prick in the Tzsu fight. The judges i thought were fair in their scoring in that fight so thats ok.

Exactly. Hatton is the champ and PBF/Gatti would be the chanllenger. So I agree...They should go to England.
The Millenium stadium holds 80,000 - it's based in Cardiff which is the capital of Wales (where Joe Cazalghe is from). Could you imagine a double-bill involving Cazalghe V Lacy and Hatton V Mayweather at the Millenium? - It would be awesome. Fuck NYC/MSG!
I would hold my own father a steak-knife point to order that PPV
