I think the most overrated fighter right now is Antonio Tarver. Hes shown me nothing. Hes all talk. Beat an aging RJJ. I expected much more from him. For someone who has 1 big win, why is he already getting lazy and taking people lightly?
Ohh and JCC Jr is overrated if you know where to listen for it.
I like Jeff Lacey but i think hes not gonna do much.
i dunno if it jest me, but a betta topic shoulda been "who are the most overhyped fightas?", cuz there are REAL answers to this.
I mean, any fightas that are considered P4P best, aint ovarated in my opinion.
the under-rated list would be a bit longer, but....
Gatti beats club fighters and has-beens and gets a title belt 4 it...
Danny Williams is barely a top 50 heavyweight....
Pacquaio has skills but only has 1 win vs. a top fighter....
Tarver's power is a bit over-rated, but the man has mad skills....
both Quitschko's, nuff said
Pac only has 1 win gainst top fightas?!.........an IDIOT
I think Tarver and Johnson are over-rated. Tarver may be the same age as Roy, but Roys has been fighting alot longer. Roy was winning the two fights when he got KO'd. I wasn't impressed with either fighter in the Johnson Tarver rematch. Johnson walk straight in while not punching! Tarver should have been able to KO his ass. Plus Tarver takes too much time off in the ring. Tarver will not last at the top.
most overrated is probably glen johnson or ricky hatton if you want to talk about beating an aging great tszyu is that if he beats another top 140 he will have my respect. not that that matters to him
It's hard to answer this question because a fighter's fans are automatically going to hype him up more than he probably deserves. It's like with Hopkins, he's obviously starting to fade a bit but few people that like him are going to come right out and say it.
I could list a number of fighters that I am both a fan of and not a fan of that get too much credit sometimes: Hopkins, Gatti, Hatton, Judah, Margartio, Pacquiao, the Klitschkos, etc. But a lot of the fans of each of these fighters are also aware of their shortcomings, so you can't come right out and say that any one of them in universally overrated.
I dont think Danny Williams was ever considered good. Just beat an old Tyson thats how i think most people saw it.
Danny Williams was a bigger prospect than Frank Bruno and Lennox Lewis, believe it or not. He was awesome when he was tearing through the ranks in the 90's, awesome on occasions in the amateurs and a world-beater in the gym. But he lost his head about 5 years ago.
With Tarver Im still in the show me something camp.
Unfortunately i think his most compelling fight is against the now heavyweight James Tony.
SideNote What the hell happened to the Cruiserweight division when guys like Evander Holyfield patrolled the scene.
I think its due to money. Guys figure move just a little bit more up, then they can fight for big money at heavyweight. I think they should raise the weight limit for crusierweight. Give these 6'6' Behemoths the heavyweight division alone.
Crusier isn't that bad these days, the Mormeck - Braithwaite fight was actually quite good until Mormeck started taking rounds off. It was more entertaining probably then any heavyweight fight I've seen this year, possibly with the exception of Barrett - Beck.
But your reason for why guys don't hang around the division is spot-on.
Every one i've heard has said that JCC Jr has a long way to go. I haven't heard ANYONE say JCC Jr was the next comming of JCC SR. He has no amatuer experience, and he has to develop into his body. People are even questioning his age. They say he is 19, buy rumors say that he is really 17. We'll see how he progreses.
How can Tarver be over rated when every time he beats someone, You all try to make it less meaningful. Beating an aged RJJ? These 2 are the same age. Plus it says alot because no one before him was able to do it. Tarver is way UNDER-rated.
definitly man, hes the first gy to KO jones. when he beat jones, jones was still the RJJ wev seen beat the likes of ruiz n stuff, when johnson beat him, he wasn't, he in my books lost every round of that fight

Normally i agree with you but this time i do not. Its not that he beat an aging jones its that he beat a fighter no longer in his prime. Who has he ever really beaten. To me until he actually beats some of the elite that are still in there prime and people keep sayin he is the next big thing , i will personally think he is overated.
