Cotto Overrated?

I like Cotto but I thought Chop would give him some problems and he did and tonight I thought he looked even worst. The HBO commentators were kissing his ass as usual and alot of you fans thought he looked great but I didnt. I thought he looked on a level below the top guys and I dont think he can beat any of them right now. Tonight I thought he moved way too much and his D still isnt all that. If another fighter did that then HBO wouldve said that he was almost running. Joel did the same thing in the first fight and they were saying that he was running to much. If he fought a guy with more speed then he wouldve been in trouble. Honestly right now I see him losing to every top fighter at 147, and to Floyd, Hatton, Harris, and Chico. I also may throw in guys like Witter and Gatti but I doubt Gatti. I liked Cotto but while you guys are thinking he's looking better, Im thinking he's looking worst every fight. I think it's going to be real interesting to see what his promoters do because I still dont think he is ready for Harris or Hatton and those are the 2 that he would probally fight. I actually think that he matches up with Hatton better then any of those other fighters but I will still give the edge to Hatton just because of the Tszyu win. I think he's good but still not ready yet. What do you guys think?

I didnt like the way Cotto backed himself up to the ropes..or let Abdulaev force him there..he took some good body shots while on the ropes...against the top tier guys..he cannot let himself get on the ropes like that and expect not to be beaten badly

He does some new stuff that is impressive but doesn't blow away the competition, no killer instincts. I not sure if that is his game plan or if he's playing it safe but he has no killer instinct. He seems very robotic. This is what I like the most about him, he is very cautiotios, doen not rush into things that might get him in troble. I think he is a vary mature fighter. This will get him a lot farther than most things.

Anyone can beat up on "good" fighters but it's how u beat the best fighters... So winning almost every round, and having your oponent stop the fight cuz he doesn't want to go on is not good enough???

If Abdullaev was busier he would have had more up on Cotto. Cotto still has some flaws he needs to work on but what fighter doesnt. Overall I believe while it was a decent fight both fighters could have done more. If he had been busier he would have had to stop the fight a lot sooner. the only reason he lasted that much was cuz cotto had to work harder to get good shots in, with him doing more, that would have ment more oportunities for cotto. just my 2 cens

I dont hate Cotto cuz of the money thing, I only lost $5.. I don't even hate Cotto you idiot... but he ain't on the same level as Gomez or Benitez... I said if he steps his competition up now, then he will be on their level if he wins.... Abdullaev beat everyone at the olympics but what has he done as a pro? He is a good fighter but nothing special... Taylor and Lacy aren't big names, they are prospects but they ain't big names...they have not done anythin special yet... If Taylor beats Wright, Hopkins, etc. then he can be a big name.... When Lacy beats Calzaghe which he will then he will be a big name... Anyone can beat up on "good" fighters but it's how u beat the best fighters... you lost $5 and you bitched and cried and made a thread how pissed you are bout it?!!! OMG........you are arguably the saddest poster in boxingscene! P4P

when i say "chin" i mean how well he takes a shot to the head. its a figure of speech in the boxing world. He takes shots well to the head but got caught with that punch on the temple. It could happen to anybody but people got out of hand with it since it was Cotto.

he def tried to do other stuff tryed to mix up his shots but they werent workin they were just meaningless flurries i cant say it any clearer then they go from crisp clean shots to sloppy punches that miss more then land Punches usually miss more than land you dumbass!

He got hit near the temple area against Corley. I have never seen him get rocked by a shot on the chin. when i say "chin" i mean how well he takes a shot to the head. its a figure of speech in the boxing world.

I don't see the whole chin issue being that big of a deal. He was caught flush with a hard punch on the temple that he didn't see and it rocked him bad. He has taken similar HARD right hands on the side of his head and chin, but he's taken them well because he knew they were coming and they weren't perfectly located like that one was. Seriously N'Dou, Bazan, Abdullaev and even Corley landed good right hands upstairs that Cotto took on his chin and he walked through them. I don't think I've seen him stunned at all from a big shot on his chin, but that shot Corley hit him with was just a very good unseen shot.

cotto's got excellent power (escpecially his left hook), he's got plent of heart, stamina, skill, and a whole mess load of potential. but after his fight with corley, im questioning his chin. He got hit near the temple area against Corley. I have never seen him get rocked by a shot on the chin.

I don't think Cotto is overrated. He's still very raw and can do many things well, not just a single thing great. He has physical tools, discpline, and the brains. The problem is how you put all the parts together and build a good package. He really doesn't have distinct style or type of fight style. He just changes game plans accordingly to his opponents and sometimes that means he'll get wins but not dominant them. People expect to see a dominant fighter were the other fighters have to adjust to Cotto but Cotto does just enought to win. His last fight with Adu, he was in control throughout the fightby a little bit but he didn't own the guy. He really needs a dominant punch or a power hand so opponents respect him more so they don't attack him head on. He's pretty much like Sugar Shane Mosley but a slowed down version. Cotto isn't going to be an all time great. He's a future champ but everytime I see him fight he doesn't pull it all together. Seriously, Cotto could KO Viv Harris in 5 rounds and he'd probably get the same bullshit from the same people. "Cotto just beat one of the most dangerous fighters in the division, but he looked like shit and he was afraid and his power was average and Harris hasn't beaten anyone anyway and he sucks for taking 5 rounds to do it and the ref stopped the fight too early and blahblahblah." If that wasn't a good win last night then NOBODY at 140 owns an impressive win over ANYBODY else in the division. I think youre right about that. Thankfully with Abdullaev quitting like that there is no 'ref stopped it too early' to deal with...theres that much atleast! :confused: For some, nothing will ever be enough, but for those of us that like him, he did just fine last night. I cant wait to see him fight again!!
