He does have good power look at what he did to Corley. Corleys never been stopped and he was on his way to being KTFO real bad. Abdullaev is just a tough bastard with a good chin and a fairly good, Winky-esque defense.
I had it 5-2-1 Cotto at the time of the stoppage. Abdullaev could only attack Cotto with any efficiency when he was on the ropes. I think Cotto was landing more than you guys think he was too. Cotto was just busier and threw punches in combination in all areas of the ring. He landed more and hit with a few nice bodyshots. Abdullaevs face really tells the whole story.
I had Abdullaev up 5-3 at the stoppage. Most of Cotto's punches were cuaght on the gloves of MA, though i guess that leaves me to explain the huge welts on MA's face...which i can't.
sry
i just dont get impressed with flurries of punches that miss
when the other guy is being far more economical and landing more often
better shots
aswell as showin a better defense
it aint hatin
look at threads b4 the fight
i thought cotto would take this one pretty easy
he just didnt look good
yea, you'd know bout boxers "lookin good"!
seriousness bout you aside, Cotto landed betta punches period.

I thought the fight was close...until it was stopped and realised what Cotto was doing the whole time...
He ended it in dominating fashion to..

His endurance would be a bit better against a guy he doesn't have to move away from too though. His endurance looked a bit worse against N'Dou and Abbie because they were pressuring him so much. Cotto's not really going to have to worry about that from Floyd. Floyd's really not the type to wear you out with pressure...he does it more with his ability to make you punch yourself out by slipping/ducking your shots.
I always said that if anyone would beat Floyd it'd be Cotto so I have to hold true to that. I think Miguel should go after a guy like Vivian Harris now though...and then maybe Floyd or Hatton...
clear your pm box
Damn so much hating on Cotto....What the fuck he has to do to earn some respect? He did TKO this guy....Abdulaev is Cotto's biggest test so far and Cotto beat the shit out of him...
Man abdiel I cant believe you really had Aby winning the fight b4 the stoppage...
Early in the fight there were times when it seemed like everyone who was suspicious about his abilties was correct. He was taking a lot of shots and getting worn out in a hurry. However he came on later and started to dominate. However, people's impressions will be based a lot on what they saw in the early going.
I'd be a little worried about Cotto's endurance, as well, he seemed to be slowing up at bit in the middle rounds, and even at the end of the fight he was looking a little tired. He would have carried the decision regardless but if he gets into a long shooting match he better be ready for it.
I just can't pick anyone over Mayweather at this point. However as we have seen in the last month or so anything can happen in boxing, so you never know. Cotto is definitely someone you can't discount at this point.

I was really impressed with Cotto tonight...
I still think Harris beats him..
way tp bias for cotto
he was throughin tons of punches that were landing on gloves or werent landing at all
i cant rememebr one significant punch from cotto in this fight
i hope mohammad gets a rematch
altho he doesnt deserve it for quiting
but he was sorta smart
he knew he couldnt see
and that hed prolly get KOd
eitha you stoopid, or you actin stoopid. How do you explain Abdulaev's face?
Yea abdiel I dont know what fight you were watching but Cotto put on a good boxing show against Abby. The only thing is that Abby didnt punch enough. I would like to see someone who comes forward and actually punches (Hatton) to fight Cotto.
I think everyones flaws come out at some point, but its good to discover them sooner than later so that you can work on them. I think Cotto's biggest flaw right now is his inability to cope with the right hand upstairs from time to time.
I agree that Floyd can punch at 140. It's not so much his power that makes his punching hard its more of the speed, technique, and accuracy that make the punches crack. The fact that Floyd can throw quick shots that Cotto wouldn't be able to see troubles me, but it could be worked on.

I think Mayweather's power is underrated, and didn't show up against Corley because that was his first night at 140. I think that one of Cotto's biggest assets, his handspeed, would be neturalized by Mayweather's speed. But you do make some good points. Before Cotto - Corley I believed that Cotto would be Mayweather's biggest test at that weight class. Though Cotto's flaws have come out more since then I think it would still be a good one.

Floyd's not going to put that kind of pressure on him though. I thought Cotto was beating this guy to the punch whenever he wanted. I think Cotto would have a lot more time to select his shots against Floyd and would throw more to the body because he wouldn't have to worry about Floyds power so much (unless he got slammed with something he didn't see like agianst Corley).
I agree with you though, Cotto is still taking too many RIGHT HANDS upstairs for his own good. I liked the pace he fought at however against a pretty good pressure fighter though.

They are scared cause he called out DLH.
Lol
u guys would really want cotto in there with DLH?
now more then ever as a DLH fan id like to see this fight happen
This was a fight of attrition, and seems to be turning into Cotto's style. Like Pinto he slowly gained the advantage, though this time the opponent was tougher. The Corley fight was the odd one...it got out of Cotto's control pretty quickly and ended too abruptly for us to figure out what would have really happened had the fight been allowed to continue.
Cotto's still taking too many shots, though. Floyd would have killed him if he fought that way againt him. His handspeed is way better than Abdullaev's and Cotto wouldn't have been able to dodge and block so easily.
