It does not matter whether he is 229, 230, or 233...what matters is whether he has the desire on fight night to win the fight...Tyson can win a fight at 225lbs...Tyson can win a fight at 240lbs...his biggest problem throughout his career has been his emotional state...people act as if Tyson is a shoe in for a win as long as he weighs 225lbs or under...when I think that is besides the point...Tyson is also not a 20 year old man anymore...so don't expect him to look rock hard all over...Tyson does not need to be OVERTRAINED in camp...that is something that Fenech said he avoided...he wants to get Mike comfortable with himself and build confidence...not burn the man out just so you can see his abs during the weigh in
Tysons arms are always listed as 17 latelty.
I think activity is the key, if he only fights once every 10 months his weight is going to yo-yo like fuck, and even as shot as he is he 'should' be able to beat this level fighter for at least another year or two so imo he should be looking to fight at least 6-7 times in 12 months, that way he stays sharp, focuse and in shape, which will do his confidence the world of good.
He's been quoted before as saying that when he's out of shape he doesn't want to train cos it too hard to get started but when he's there he feels real good, also against this sort of opponant he def shouldn't be ppv, but since he's so unpredictable i suppose he might knock boxing on the head tommorrow or fight for another 5 years so the promotors will feel the need to milk every last penny out of him
Tyson beats himself more than his opponents beat him...having the reputation as a bad man and a string of first round kos probably doesn;t help..what do you do when the other man does not go down in the first few rounds? Tyson seems to get frustrated and then get ko'd....BUT Tyson is still one of the biggest draws in boxing...even when he is fighting a joke like McBride...if he gets past McBride and can get a win over someone in the top fifty I would say he has a good chance at getting a title shot...he brings in the dough and for the champs he looks beatable...I still give him a pretty good chance of holding a belt before his career is over (although it could be said that his career really ended when he went to jail on the rape charge..never the same fighter after that)....
If Tyson could commit to training for more than one fight at a time, that would help. He gets in marginally decent shape for a fight, and then won't go in a gym for a while and balloons up again. At his age he needs constant activity to keep himself at a certain level of conditioning, as well as the desire to win as someone mentioned. Maybe answering the bell for round 5 and still feeling half decent would help his confidence?Like Holyfield :-)
Tyson doesn't really have noticable triceps, he is all bicep. Thats why his arm looks so big from the front and from the side. If he had decent size triceps his arms would be 18-19", but he's not a bodybuilder he's a puncher
you was right on the legs, but calves are really thin for him, c'mon lets check it out saturday night, then tell me if its ok. ive always noticed that tyson calf evrytime he fights.
First off, Mike Tyson has huge legs. There is nothing "frail" about his legs, they are trunks!
Also, he has always had small looking calves, but they are definately able to hold his weight
In my opinion, he has larger arms than 16". maybe back when he started, before he was into lifting weights they were like that, but now they are definately larger. I am 5'10" and I have around 17" arms. Tyson's look larger. Also, Tyson does not have a small frame by any means, he is compact because he is short for a heavyweight (5'11") but he has broad shoulders, and large legs. He has a powerful musculature and skeletal structure.
In any case, after he beat McBride, by 2nd round TKO (my prediction), he should take a week off and get right back into the gym for an August fight. He will continue to lose some of the excess weight around his midsection, and could weigh-in around the 225 lbs he weighed for Etienne.
Naw, their 16. He's just short. I know because I've had 17" arms when I was into lifting and getting big and they looked monstrous on a 5'10" body. Lennox Lewis has 17" arms and they don't look that big because he's 6'5" with a huge frame. It's all relative to your height and skeletal size.
I don't know about now, but in his prime his calves were 18". Thats huge, of course compared to his 27" thighs they look smaller. Tyson has always been known for his huge legs and huge neck in the past, and he always had 16" arms. I don't know, but his arms look a hell of alot bigger than 16" now, more like 18.
red menace, yeah, thats why he don't have good balance, his calves are thin for a man weighing 230, but of course, i didn't see it up close and personal, just on tv and videos.
I would have to agree on that. And not only his frame but look at how thin his legs and calves are too. must be a lot of load for his frail little knees to handle. If he's gonna fight a big name, he must trim down.
Frail legs? Tyson has thighs like tree trunks ... maybe not as much anymore, but he has much thicker legs than most heavy-weights.

He was able to get down to 225 vs Entinne then in his next fight showed up at 234 vs Lewis. I dont think Tyson even gave himself any chance to win that fight or cared if he won or lost for that mattter. 9 pounds is a huge difference for a guy with the frame of Tyson.

AGREE 100%
GOOD KARMA FOR YOU
It also reflects his age. If he trained the same way he did when he was young, he would come in to the ring heavier.
