among many other things, i am at least two things: i am a boxing fan and i am of polish heritage (and proud of it). regardless of what they do (i.e. andrew golota) i always support certain polish fighters like tomasz adamek, dawid kostecki, matt zegan, albert sosnowski, krzysztof wlodarczyk, and art binkowski to name a few (and are all legitimate contenders or will be contenders). im just looking for opinions, am i ethnic obsessed or are there other people who are interested in fighters who share their ethnicity?
i havent had an actual 100% pure pole since my great-grandfather.
Am I the only one who sees something a bit dodgy in this statement?!
*just kidding mate!* :D :D

What about the "Matchstick Man" Johnny Owen? I think he was Polish. You're not proud of his accomplishments?
I kind of get when people say "I have black pride or I have polish pride" even though people should be proud of something they actually have control over. I'm not "proud to be white" or "proud to be an american" because I didn't do anything to be white or American. My parents are white and I was born in an American hospital. I didn't do anything to achieve that.
That being said, I'm giving in a little. I'm pulling for Brewster to keep winning since he was born less than an hour from my little town.

There are too many American fighters for me to care about supporting american fighters, i just like who i like because supporting people just because their american will make me narrow minded.

Just take a look at peoples sigs and youll find out your not alone.
i tend to root for hispanic fightere more often cuz i think i can relate better and more to them. But some of my fav fighters arent hispanic..such as Mayweather, Tyson, Tszyu..etc.
i think now might be the time to say that i am an american, so are my parents, and so are all my grandparents. my fathers parents are both polish americans. so, i havent had an actual 100% pure pole since my great-grandfather. but i do support polish fighters. even though i am an american, i am truely proud of my polish roots.
Well, there really are hardly any world class fighters these days from my ethnic background (random white guy from North America), so I don't often face this dilemma...
I don't think that there's anything wrong with rooting for fighters because they're from your nation or ethnic group, as long as you don't also start disliking other fighters just because they're from different backgrounds than your own... still, my opinion is that the highest ideal is to root for fighters based only on their boxing skill or their personal qualitites - things that go beyond race, ethnicity, etc.
I'm straight, unbiased and open-minded. It just so happens that British fighters generally are under-rated and despised so I support them, not neccasarily because I'm British. I believe in righteousness, if an American fighter was talked about wrongly in my opinion then I'd jump to his defence. Same goes for any fighter from any country.
For example, there is no doubt at all that a 20-year-old Mike Tyson was the best fighter of our era and when people can't see that I get worked up about it because it's the truth! I'm from Britain, so I 'should' be supporting Lennox Lewis, but in all honesty I think he's grossly over-rated.
even though i like many polish boxers, since his loss to brewster, i dont like andrew golota anymore. he had more potential than any heavyweight since mike tyson.
I never thought of it, but now that i look at it i tend to support more hispanic fighters b/c i am hispanic aswell. But it doesn't mean i like all hispanic fighters. It depend on who the fighter is ofcourse.
It really depends with me.. I generally show more interest in British fighters and want them to do well.. Lennox was my fuckin' hero!
But if someone's got class I couldn't care less where they come from... um.. unless there fighting a british fighter.. oh..
PS. Agree with you Boxstarr.. Audley Harrison needs to DO SOMETHING! And Naz was an amazing talent and exciting to watch just a shame he was/is such an arrogant little shit!
i tend to support british fighters but it doesnt make them my favourite fighters
i really dislike harrison for example
and if tyson were english id still wnt him KTFO'd every time he stepped into the ring
