Before yesterday if you would have asked me who I thought were the five fighters least likely to quit during a fight, I would have chosen Tsyzu as one of them. I am still surprised he quit, but now Im curious to hear who you people think are the five fighters least likely to quit during a fight, no matter how hurt they are and no matter how bad they are losing. Here are mine.
- Bernard Hopkins
- Erik Morales
- James Toney
- Arturo Gatti
- Chico Corrales
The reason guys like Winky, Bernard, Roy never quit is because they never have to because they never got hit. Not quitting is obviously more of a task for guys like Gatti, Morales, JLC, Toney, Corrales, McCullough etc..
If you're going to include old timers, then you're going to have to add Marciano and Foreman who were both even tougher than Foreman. Dempsey was down in an early fight a ridiculous amount of times, close to a dozen, and he proceeded to keep getting up until he finally knocked his opponent out. This was when he was still a teenager. There was no quit in Dempsey.
Speaking of Dempsey and his career, Willard also showed remarkable grit continuing to fight on with all of the facial and body damage Dempsey inflicted on him. It was obvious that he had no chance after the first thirty seconds of the fight, yet he continued to get up hoping he could somehow wear Dempsey down.
Honestly, you could probably take a few hundred guys who fought prior to 1950 that would be much much tougher than anyone mentioned here so far. When you are fighting just to eat (remember that there wasn't even a welfare program for impoverished people back then) you will fight on through circumstances that would make a sensible wealthy fighter say enough is enough.
mm
Who are the ones that quit? The perceived slugger "tough guys" (Duran, Chavez, Tszyu, etc).
So my list goes:
Winky Wright
Roy Jones Jr.
Bernard Hopkins
Omar Weis
Zab Judah
Least likely to quit. in this order.
5.Julio Chavez
chavez did quit against dlh ....
in no particular order :
erik morales
arturo gatti
diego corrales
jose louis castillo
juan manuel marquez
Wayne McCullough
James Toney
Arturo Gatti
Erik Morales
Ricky Hatton, Jose Luis Castillo or Joe Calzaghe too, these guys have a lot of pride and i doubt they would quit.
good list.
Corrales showed signs of wanting quit but didnt do to the situation he put himself in.
If this would have been texas hold em, he would have been all in and playing the river for an ace and got it.This means he is one lucky dude to get away with what he and fucking win it.
Least likely to quit. in this order.
1.Wladimir Klitschko(ok, i'm just kidding.) my real #1 pick is the great Nigel Benn(this guy is the most mentally tough fighter,of all time.)
2.Jake LaMotta(this man could take any amount of punishment.)
3.Ricky Hatton(he trains his neck, something I didn't know before last night, extensively.he can absorb any kind of a punch, even can walk into heavy punches.i think the only punch that could put this man out is a power hook to the temple as he's coming in with his own punch)
4.Meldrick Taylor
5.Julio Chavez
6.Evander Holyfield
7.George Foreman(the reason he's so low on this list is because he kind of quit in his fight in zaire.he was up and 9 and just walked back to his corner, defeated mentally..otherwise one of the toughest to ever grace the square circle)
8.Glen Johnson(hungry, tough motherfuck..)
9.Vitali Klitschko(his bout with lennox speaks for itself)
10.Bernard Hopkins
Wayne McCullough
James Toney
Arturo Gatti
Erik Morales
Ricky Hatton, Jose Luis Castillo or Joe Calzaghe too, these guys have a lot of pride and i doubt they would quit.
I agree, good list. Glen Johnson doesn't strike me as being a quitter either.
i agree with ur list but i would take toney off and insert castillo
Wayne McCullough
James Toney
Arturo Gatti
Erik Morales
Ricky Hatton, Jose Luis Castillo or Joe Calzaghe too, these guys have a lot of pride and i doubt they would quit.
Just because someone is KO'able, and Chico certainly is, doesnt make him someone very likely to quit a fight. Chico hasnt had a history of spitting his mouthpiece, that was only in that one fight, so lets not act like hes been known to do that.
Slip you think Chico is a quitter? His corner threw in the towel v Floyd after he was knocked down 5 times. And against Casamayor he clearly wanted to fight on, but Dr Goodman wouldnt let him and look at the heart he showed against Castillo. How can you say Corrales is a quitter? If anything hes the total opposite.
whats up with his mouthpiece game
and he's ko'able.
bitch gets dazed and spits out his mouthpiece.id be ok if he did it once but like 3 or 4 times in a round man wtf.
hes a hoe.
