I don't think I have seen a thread about this fantasy matchup. It could very well become a reality if both parties are interested. It would be the courage, determination, experience, and newfound boxing of Vargas vs. the laser jab, quickness, and youth of Sturm(Vargas is young too but he's been through hell and back these last five years).
This is a very intriguing matchup that could very well make one of them the next hot contender at 160. Who would win? I am not sure about this one but if Vargas gets back to where he once was, he would probably outsmart the talented but somewhat naive Sturm.
As of fight now I think Sturm can jab his way to victory and if he lands rights and body shots maybe even get a late ko.
Let me add this also he hasnt faced a harder puncher than Vargas.
We never know if Vargas connects it might be a different story.
The way Vargas boxed Joval looked terrible. I understand the thing with the layoff, but I don't think that was the problem. He and his trainer have completely changed his style, he looked much better against Quartey. Sturm would give a lesson to Vargas right now, and I hope Vargas and his trainer reconsider the new style he is using.
Felix Sturm should step up and try to take this fight...a win would be great for his career and great for boxing, i have yet to see real stuff from Sturm.
At this point Sturm would dominate and embarass Vargas.

I've of course not seen Sturm fight except against De La Hoya, since that is the only fight, to my knowledge, that they have shown of Sturm in the States. I would like to see him fight again, but I highly doubt they'll show him again unless it is against Hopkins, maybe Taylor.
Vargas looked average against Ray Joval, but that was after a 15 month layoff. I say that if Vargas ever gets back to where he once was, Sturm will not beat him.
I completely agree with you. Sadly, I don't see Vargas being the Vargas of old in his next fight; I see him being more of the Vargas of new.
The name was Joval, thanks for refreshing my memory.
Did you watch his last fight against Schunk (sp?) You can judge and Sturm over Schunk > Vargas over the last guy he faced whose name escapes me.

I like Vargas and I would go for him. The jury is still out on Sturm for me. I cannot judge a fighter on one performance. Buster Douglas sucked but you'd believe otherwise watching him against Tyson that one time. I think Sturm is definitely better than Douglas, but I hope my point is taken.

I thought Vargas was staying at 154. I see this as a bad matchup for him. HIGH risk, low reward. No way do I see Vargas winning and I'm sure his camp sees (or doesn't see) that as well.
