Ok Iwatchboxing claims that JCC is over rated now
me being mexican and all i gotta admit i got a biasided opinion,
and he hates mexican fighters so his opinion is biasided too.
so what do you think???
is Julio Cesar Chavez overrated???
and how good do you think he really was???
So most of you guys think that Pernell won agains Chavez, and if the fight wasn't stopped an the 12th he would of won?, well, let me tell you something, after that fight Whithaker wasn't the same no more, he had some facial fractures, in his body was completly messed up to the point that he was peeing blood, and if we talk about the brain damage that he suffer because of that fight, you can still find him trying to be a world champion. That was a massacre in all means...
Chavez seams to be under-rated by the new "generation" of boxing fans, just the people that saw him fighting in his prime can say, he's not even close to be overestimated at all.
Oh yeah it was a real massacre.
I assume you mean Taylor instead of Whitaker in your above thread..Pete Whitaker is no Meldrick Taylor he was a smarter fighter.. Taylor fought the wrong style as a professional for the talent he was blessed with.. He always reverted back to being a Philly fighter when hit and slugged toe to toe.. Whitaker was more of a technician. He would have frustrated Chavez at any time in their respective careers that they fought!!
Well said. Whitaker would have never slugged it out like that with Chavez. He would have done exactly what he did in their "draw". Slipping and intelligently moving away from Chavez left/rights while popping him with accurate punches all night.

lmao.... that was Meldrik Taylor but you have a good analysis of that fight though. ;)

Did you know that the decision against Ramirez was a robbery also with most observers agreeing pete won.. Did you know in the rematch Sweet Pea beat the crap out of Ramirez by even a wider margin
Honestly I dont know who pete is. Who is pete?
They fought in France and it wasnt anywhere near a robbery. The sd was pulled out rightfully so.Pea beating the crap out of someone? oh you mean boring the crap out of everyone.
LOL!! A clinic is what Pete Whitaker gave Chavez in the Alamodome? Even if they fought a few years earlier..Whitaker may have even won by a wider margin. What would JCC done differently. Pete would have still popped the shit out of him , slipped his jabs and crosses, angled the shit out of Chavez and frustrated him
Right! You go ahead and think that. Mexicans love being the underdog any fking way, just ask Tony Margarito.
Hey dude nice insult!! If you think Chavez would beat Whitaker in their' respective primes you are beyond help!! Don't disrespect a legend by hugging his nuts, he doesnt need that.. His record speaks for itself. He just didnt have the style to beat Sweet Pea.no shame in that!
Did you know Pea Pea lost to Jose Luis Ramirez in his prime?
Did you know that Ramirez and Chavez are compadres and Chavez was much better in his prime than Ramirez so counting out that Chavez could not beat Pea Pea in his prime is fucking absurd!

No insult intended man, but to say the he would only win 2 to 3 rounds is just plain dumb and to be honest I didn't even like Chavez that much nearing the end of his career but a prime Chavez fight was like a complete clinic on how to break down any opponent.
Sorry if I hurt your feelings.
Whitaker wasnt exactly in his prime either when he fought Chavez.. You can spin it either way you want but a prime Chavez wins 2 to 3 rounds against a prime Whitaker at best!
Ok, time to put the pipe down buddy...

Hes prob not as great as was presumed when he was at the top of his game,i mean he was like this unstoppable mythic hero for mex fans,But he deserves to be considered great nonetheless,he beat some great fighters.

I think Whitiker was a master boxer. I'm not sure Chavez could have beaten him at any weight, but when he did fight Pea, he certainly was on the down side. Either way, both were great in their own right.
Whitiker was boring as hell, but was untouchable in prime.
No way Chavez is overated.
Yes he went downhill pretty quick (even though still able to hold his own) but in his prime he was the best.
No way Whitaker could have beaten a prime Chavez and yes he lost that ugly ass fight against him but by that time Chavez was not taking boxing seriously anymore.
Whitaker was a masterful tactician, but his run and duck style was so freaking boring. Also let me point out that he got a gift when he fought Maromero Paez and Paez didn't even take him seriously (of course he didn't take anybody seriously).
The only thing that bothered a lot of people, Mexican mainly was that Chavez started acting like an ass after the Whitaker and Randall fights but who knows what was in the guys mind. He seems ok now, so hopefuly he took care of his inner demons.
Funny you noticed he was acting like a little snob for a while.

Dont buy it for the Chavez Sr. fight, buy it if you like Rafa Marquez and want to check how Jr. is doing.
Im a very big fan of Chavez and this is his goodbye I hope so most likely Im going to Staples to watch it live. Just in case I didnt go I would pay the paper view any how.

Hey BB, are you gonna order the ppv of his last fight? I guess because it is his last, that alone would make it worth the ppv, but he's not fought in ages, so it just doesnt seem right to me  Whatcha gonna do?

What do you want me say, he ran like a bitch and made the usuall boring ass fight Pea always made. He did what it took to win but tis thread is about something else.
