It seems the Executioner has been getting bad press as a fighter due to his style as of late. There are too many people who accuse Hopkins of being a pure boxer.......when he is far from that. Before his fight with Trinidad, all he ever did was fight toe to toe basically. He is one of the best inside fighters in the game, yet nobody gives him credit for that side of his ability. I just dont understand. Did these people start watching him fight right after he beat Trinidad and he recieved the mainstream exposure? One poster I saw....said he ran from Morrad Hakkar the entire fight. How is that possible...when the ref warned Hakkar that he would take a point off for not fighting.
Did these people miss his fights with Holmes, Echols, Roy Jones, and literally everyone else he faced before...or what?
Anyone have any answers?

The bottom line is that Hopkins might not be the most exciting boxer all the time, but he is a WINNER. Isn't that what sports is all about WINNING. The guy has 20 straight defenses & even though the division is not the best over 10+ years & 20 defenses your are gonna fight good fighters. Everyone needs to stop hating & open their eyes or they're gonna miss the show. HOPKINS IS AN ALL TIME LEGEND & PEOPLE NEED TO SEE HIM & RESPECT HIM FOR THAT!!
Hopkins impresses me. I don't like him, and obviously in his old age he has become more cautious...but people should watch his fight with Roy. Bernard had no chance to outbox Roy so he fought him hard and he won 3-4 rounds doing that and was competitive. Roy's most competitive fight was with Bernard in my opinion.
Bernard outmsarted and outboxed De La Hoya when most thought Bernard would try to smash him. He surprised a few people in that one although many I'm sure felt he could do whatever he wanted to De La Hoya. But if you thought that, you thought that because you know Hopkins is a jack of all trades.
His demolition of Tito pretty much showed how complete of a fighter Hopkins is. His abuse of Joppy was just plain sickening. I didn't see his fights with Echols, but Echols was a BIG puncher in his prime and was a very good fighter, and Hopkins beat him at his own game.
Get his fights with Echols they are great great fights.
Still far too many people think he is a pure boxer. Its really annoying.

I think to many people are sleeping on Taylor. I believe this is Hopkins toughest test in his career. Honestly, is vanderpool, Dlh, or Trinidad a tougher fight, no. I think Taylor would easily Ko Dlh who moved up in weight and Trinidad would be eating Jabs all night, before going down. Taylor has fire is his belly and the power to put Hopkins down. i respect Hopkins but he will lose this fight u all will see.
This will tell if savvy, experience and guile can overcome brawn and enthusiasm. Personally, I think Bernard took it for the challenge. I believe there's something to what Roy always referred to. I also believe it's poor taste to then keep pointing to that when you lose.

Hopkins was unreal in the Trinidad fight. I know it was one sided but Hopkins performance was so masterful it was great to watch. One of my personal favorite fights without a doubt.
i think so too.. his win over trinidad was more convincing than that of winky's, save for the KO of course. winky fought a boxer's fight for 12 rounds and he was masterful. however, hopkins fought a very well-rounded fight, boxer to slugger to boxer then to slugger again. he fought with his own style, then never wavered when he did trinidad's own style.

word @ all of what's been said thus far. I still can't understand why cats refuse to give Bernard his props. I agree that some of these cats haven't watched Bernard's fights except for against Trinidad, DLH, and Eastman. From what I've seen of Taylor, I'd be very surprised if he defeats Hopkins, very much surprised. But win, lose, or draw, I think Bernard deserves respect.
Bernard has retired more fighters then anyone fighter that i can think of. He sent Tito on his first retirement, even though Tito had a farewell fight after his loss.(you have to go out with a win), but Hopkins has roughed up everyone in the ring worse thean just beating them. i think thats why roy was hiding under the money in a rematch, cause even though he won, it probably didn't feel like a win physically... most of the fighters that lose to Hopkins, their career goes to shit afterwards. they tend to line up a string of losses or have sub-par performances, alla Tito(you cant count mayorga cause he gave tito freebee's on his chin) in a competitive fight like the Wright fight, look how he got owned. Tito wasn't the only one, Glenn Johnson had the same problem, but he's the only one to have persevered with his career and become a champ. Vanderpool did ok for a few fights too, but now has fallen of the radar.Echols, Mercado, Simon Brown, they all had a rough time in the ring after fighting Hopkins....the man is an executioner on many levels.....a true hard nose gritty get it done throw back fighter, they don't make'em like that anymore....
I gotta agree with Knives with this one. Hopkins adapts very well to his opponent & breaks them down mentally & physically. He brawls when he wants to & boxes when he needs to. He capitilizes off other boxers mistakes & makes them pay for it. He's probably the most complete fighter in the game today & maybe the smartest.
Some moron who didn't even post in this thread gave me bad Karma for this post I made earlier in this thread.
Unreal.
haha. I know dude....its amazing. I am still in shock about some of the comments I have read, as well as the lack of support for Hopkins as a fighter. That is so funny, that someone disagreed with that post....because it is basically right on the money to a T. LOL. The only part I disagree with...was the #1 spot. I think PBF is the best fighter on earth.
Nard a close damn 2nd.

I think a lot of casual fans didn't really see him fight before the Trinidad fight, and call him a boring boxer because he's not a one punch KO artist.
In a word: ignorance.
Hopkins is a slick, savvy pro who's a violent and rugged inside fighter. He will beat and break fighters down with a mix of intelligent boxing and rugged tactics. Whatever works.
IMO, until he loses or retires, he's got a strangle hold on being the best fighter in the sport.

When Hopkins fights Taylor...
I will be rich and I will love Hopkins because he will make me rich!
Taylor fought a small shot Raul Marquez, and Alex Bunema..
He kept whipping them with his jab and he looked like he was unstoppable
I look like that to when I hit a heavybag....
IMO he was losing the fight with Eduard when he stopped him
and he didn't look to good against a old shot Joppy..
Hopkins will come in as a underdog to the public but a favorite to boxing experts...
So if Hopkins is the underdog, I will make more money when Hopkins whoops his ass...
Hopkins do your job and make me rich:D
Hey keep this hush hush, I know B-Hop will be schooling Taylor and I want to make that money to man, so don't put doubt in the minds of "Taylor's going to Whoop Nard, He's got his number" fans, keep them confident son = more money
Not to be downgradin Weather and B-Hop, but where did these guys learn to fight? Excellent boxers, but they should also learn to brawl fo the crowd.!
This is one of the posters I forementioned. With his ridiculous post that embarrases not only Bernard....but every boxing critic around. LOL. That is so retarded its not even funny. This guy is a waste of bandwidth.

In the Second fight with Echols....Antwun got mad at Nard's roughousing on the inside....he slammed Nard on the canvas using a suplex technique. Instead of taking the DQ and winning the fight with a dislocated shoulder he kept on fighting. They stood toe to toe and fought on the inside for a while, and Hopkins showed his heart and determination big time. I will never forget that display of courage. Echols would throw combinations on Nards hurt arms and shoulder, and you did not even see him grimace but 2 or 3 times the entire fight. In the later rounds Nard started bombing him and eventually knocked him down.
He is old school, as much as anyone in the fight game. He also has one of the best chins in the business.
What I have to laugh at....is people accusing Tito of being a dirty fighter for low blows. LOL Nard is twenty times worse...and used to hit people on the legs! Gotta like his ethics though.

I really dont like his tactics in the ring but he is hell of a fighter.
For sure. He is definitely a dirty fighter, and has been known for that. My point of this thread....was just wanting to know why people think he is merely an outside boxer...who distances himself with the jab like Winky Wright does. That is so not true.....because he can brawl as well. On another thread....I saw someone type something to this effect:
"Hopkins would get knocked out. The reason why people rate his chin so high...is because he never gets hit. All he does is run away from his opponents."
To me.....that is stupid as hell, and warrants blasphemy in a boxing religious sense. That poster is one of the people I want answers from.
