Champion vs Champion: 1984 vs 2005

Winky would have no chance of outboxing Hearns. Never mind Leonard, Hearns also outboxed slicksters Hill and Benitez. The latter is an all time great and a superb boxer, but Tommy put on an absolute clinic. Tommy was a terror for the straight boxer beacuse not only could he outbox them but the threat of the huge right hand was always there.

Holmes reach is listed as being 81". Vitali's is listed as being 80" (both according to boxrec). Gringo, the broadness of each of their backs is taken into account when measuring their respective reaches. Arms wide apart, fingertip to fingertip...That's a fighter's reach. I thinks it's safe to say Vitali's back is thicker/wider than Holmes, because in his prime, Larry was fairly thin up in the shoulder area. That would also mean that Holmes' arm length more than makes up for the difference (considering Holmes' reach is slightly more), and he would have to be noticably longer in arm length than what Vitali is...Know what I mean? I think he had a slight reach advantage in terms of arm length but do you know if his back was as broad? I think that may have a slight effect on it too. That's just the thing, a lot of the guys that Holmes had his way with would have troubled all of the HW champs of today. It speaks volumes about the current state of HW boxing. Isn't Jeff Lacy the Super Middle weight Champ? As of May 9th, the Ring has Super Middle vacent. I like Lacey best at 168, but I was only inputting the ring rankings as they are at the moment.

Boxrec doesn't have Leroy Jones' reach listed on his record, but the big guy was a very nice and smart boxer...especially for a man of his size (alot less awkward thasn Vitali, that's for sure). He could move very well around the ring, threw a very quick and accurate jab, and also had some pretty fast hands which he threw in combination. The big guy was a good fighter, who would also give Vitali a very, very tough test if he was around in today's heavyweight division. Hearns had very few problems with people who elected to box though. If i'm not mistaken he had a longer reach than Winky and he would just sit outside and jab him to death until that right hand and left hook came behind it. Hearns jab was lightining fast and powerful. Even though it seemed like he'd just flick it out there he was very good at making you aware of it so he could set up the right behind it. Hearns also won't fade down the stretch since Winky's pressure and power isn't enough to trouble him. Tommy was a master of all punches...Winky has never seen anything even close to him. Hearns would put him to sleep in the mid-late rounds.

Jr Middle: Tommy Hearns vs Winky Wright Tommy Hearns would win by UD. Winky isnt all that, he had a close fight with Vargas, and if his fight with Trinidad happened earlier, at JR, he would of lost. I honestly dont think Trinidad could beat Winky at 154 Winky did lose to Vargas but Winky today would destroy that Vargas and Trinidad just never fought a fighter like Winky

hmm I'd go with Hopkins over Hagler by MD but would be rooting for Hagler. Both are all-time greats but I think Hops has what it takes to edge out a thrillingly close decision over Hagler, prime for prime.

But when was Hearns ever outboxed? Winky wouldn't rip into him like Leonard, Hagler, and Barkley did. Hearns was an excellent boxer as well. The thing with All 3 you named where that they where all willing to exchange at times, which made for good fights and gave Hearns a chance. Winky would not give a puncher a chance to brawl. he is content with boxing the whole fight never taking a risk. Which is why i think he would win.

I'm sorry but Winky Wright outbox a 154 pound Thomas Hearns? Hearns at 154 looked damned near unbeatable and the only way to deal with him was to get to his chin...something Winky would not do. Hearns would box circles around Winky and stop him late. A better fight there would have been 154 Duran vs. Winky. Hagler would most likely have taken a decision over Hopkins. If it's 2004 version of Hop then there is the possibility of a late stoppage as well but I think it would most likely go to a decision. The killer for me is Corrales/Rosario. Rosario was a huge puncher himself and took all kinds of abuse from Chavez. I think he could take Corrales' best and get to him but it's a close call.

Size wasn't a factor at all when Holmes had his way with both Leroy Jones and Gerry Cooney. Both those fighters were in the neighborhood of 6'6 in height, which isn't that much shorter than Vitali (an inch or so).
