I am not a fan of De La Hoya, but I was thinking today about his all time status and thought to myself how he will be remembered when he retires? And does he really have anything left at this point? I personally don't think he wants it anymore, he already has accomplished so much and made so much money the hunger is probably gone. :bling:
Is he overated?
Does he have anything left?
Basilio's record sucks? If you really think that, there's no use debating. Ask anyone that has knowledge of boxing's history. I guarantee that they'll agree that Basilio was one of the greatest of all-time.
Your only 16 years old, how the hell you know? It getting late, why dont you go to sleep. The guy sucks, his record does matter when having him on your TOP TEN list, its retarded to have him their, guy been losing fights since he started, Trinidad would of kicked his ass losing like that.
OK...I guess I was wrong calling u a idiot...
but Basilio aint no bum either..
Carmen Basilios record sucks, how is he top ten?
http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=008997
Are you that retarded?
Why do you only look at records...?
Sugar Ray had 19 losses
Trinidad has 1
Sugar Ray is 10 times the fighter that Trinidad is
Basilio was GOOD to..
If you never seen his fights, then do so..
Mexicans had the flags out in record numbers for Trinidad vs. DLH, now they say he aint Mexican, ha, not only is he the best Mexican fighter ever to have Mexican blood, but Trinidad aslo made him turn bitch in his fight with him, to win a just descion, sore losers.
Wow...the Mexicans had the flags waving...hmmm... Well let me tell you something you might not know....there are Mexicans from Mexico and then there are Chicanos meaning they were born in the United States to parents originally born and raised in Mexico. This would be similar to your "New Yoricans". The Chicanos love DLH and admire him cuz he is one of us. The Mexicans CAN NOT STAND HIM 99% of the time because of his style and his destruction of the great JC Superstar. Yes some of the Mexicans "adopted" him in that fight with Tito simply becuase he had similar bloodlines. Yet, they actually could have cared less and were indifferent to the outcome. So.... Those people who were waving the Mexican were representing thier heritage and culture, but not speaking for MEXICO as a country. Most of them were chicano like myself. MY DAD who is MEXICAN all the way, could care less about DLH... OKAY!
I like how people say ODLH lacks heart. Obviously you ppl didnt see him fight Quartey, i had him down by a point until the last round which he needed to win by KO or knocking him down and thats what he did in like the first 15 when round 12 started. The he continued to pound on him until the round ended. Someone who has no heart would quite befor the fight was over, ODLH showed great heart and won the fight like a true champ.
If it was DLH's corner, then his corner sucked. I don't care if you think you're winning every round, you don't just run around the ring trying not to get KO'd. LMAO.
uhhh if u r agasint tito who hits hard from welter to light middle, and you have one liek 9 rounds, why risk it, why keep attacking a monsterous puncher when u know u have the fight in the bag. don king really messes up shit.
So who in the hell is? Let me guess Castillo right... both should be in the top ten or something !
Top 10 all-time? Nope. They're not even in the top 10 welterweights of all-time.
10 welterweights that were greater/better:
Ray Robinson
Mickey Walker
Thomas Hearns
Ray Leonard
Henry Armstrong
Jose Napoles
Emile Griffith
Kid Gavilan
Joe Walcott
Carmen Basilio
Trinidad probably cracks my top 15. And this is coming from a big fan of his.
I know it sounds like an insult--almost to the point of blasphemy--to even suggest that Trinidad and DLH are not in the top 50 all-time. They're probably in my top 100. Before you guys go crazy again. Think about that for a second. That probably puts them in at least the top 95th percentile of fighters to ever step into the ring. Wow, what an insult.
Listen, i regard Trinidad and DLH as two of the best fighters of their era. I simply think there were many that were greater. If you believe otherwise, i'm fine with that (unless you have them in the top 30; then you're just high). In my opinion, to place Trinidad and DLH above the fighters i have ahead of them to would an insult to those who deserve a top 50 spot. I'm just telling it how i see it.
Oscar will be remembered, first and foremost, as the biggest non-heavyweight draw of his era. I honestly believe his accomplishments and resumes will be secondary in his legacy.
Is he overrated? By some, yes. To me, he's not in the top 50 or 60 all-time. Some may think i'm being harsh. I don't.
And who the hell questions Trinidad's heart? Before his fight with Hopkins, he rose from every knockdown he suffered (which were a lot) to stop his opponent. If that isn't heart, i don't know what is. Before people start labeling me a Trinidad lover, yes, i'm a fan of him. But he's not in the top 50 all-time either.
Oscar's conor told him to run like that, dont put all the weight on DLH he did what fighters r suppose to do and thats listen to there cornor, unless your jirov or golota lol

holy shnikies, SturmRules makes a great point, the world has officially come 2 an end :)
Oscar had a huge lead (seemingly) and his corner thought that the judging would be legit, so they told their fighter to put it on cruise-control.... they forgot, though, that Oscar-Tito wasn't the real fight that night, it was really Arum vs. King, and King won big-time

How has Tito showed he had great heart?? Hes never faced anybody whos bigger and stronger than him before. The only guy he faced where he needed to show heart to get by was against Hopkins, and he didnt pussy out nor he showed heart like a warrior.
At least Oscar faught guys who were bigger than him and didnt handpick guys based on their style like Tito did against Mayorga.
Also how doesnt he have heart did u see the last round against Qartey or the fight against Vargas?? Didnt he move up in weight to fight the middleweight king???
Tito faced B-hop when not a lot of people knew B-Hop i odnt see Tito fighting him now nor did he want a rematch when he got raped the 1st time. I mean its cool to duck people cause of financial reasons but he doesnt want any business to do with B-Hop now. So i dont know where has he shown a lot of heart can sumone explain that to me
im not saying Tito has heart, but ive seen a lot of posts where they give credit to his heart like he was Gatti.
Actually, B-Hop was probably at his best when Tito fought him. Being that I like DLH, I wouldn't want him to get in the ring with Hopkins at that time, he never would have made it as far as Tito.

He will be remembered as a multi-division champion who got a few gift decisions along the way, lost a gift decision, fell so in love with himself he thought he could move all the way up to middleweight and learned he couldn't take a body shot;)
Seriously, he will definitely be in the IBHOF some day, likely on the first ballot. I think his promotion company, especially now that he's teamed up with Hopkins, will do good things for boxing in the long run.
He has a solid place in history, but IMO he won't be remembered as great. He had great charisma, but lacked true heart, as evidenced by the Trinidad debacle. Let's not even talk about his little singing effort. I know it's wrong, but in general people remember the mistakes more than they remember the accomplishments.
I think moving alot like that kills ur body.I hope he is succesful back at 147, i felt he was stronger at this weight.I give him chances with some of the big names.
I thought De La Hoya could have been better. He didnt show all his skills.I think he was a better at lightweight and Welterweight, but Jr Middleweight was a big struggle for him.
Didn't mean to get your panties in a twist, just stating my OPINION, you don't have to agree with it, but it is MY OPINION. ANYWAYS....Tito will not lose and if he does I'm still going to support him because...he has way more heart than your boy Oscar de La CHOCHA!!!
He might be a chicken....but he outboxed Trinidad pretty bad:D
