Reasons this fight will happen.
- They both are at a disadvantage against tall fighters and would prefer to fight each other
- Vitali will be unavailable for a while
- They both don't want that many more fights and would love the big payday.
- After Tyson's first min. KO in June people some people will believe in him again.
- MOST OF ALL BOTH FIGHTERS THINK THAT THEY CAN WIN THIS ONE
Power vs Skills, Tyson by KO or Toney by Desicion, No one has ever attempted to beat Tyson like Toney would try to (without tying him up), and noone has ever knocked out James Toney.
I was going to start a thread like this but oh well. ;)
I think Toney has a good chance if he can make it past the first 5 rounds. I don't think he can KO tyson but i do think he has a good chance of being Ko'd by tyson. Tyson is still a devestating hitter. He can rock people and would rock toney if he landed half as many shots as Ruiz did.
Toney's flab would help protect him against body shots. Not to mention, i think he has been in the game long enough to know how to clinch and move and use "old school" tricks to get him through the first couple rounds.
Plus Tyson might be too stupid to go to the body anyway.
u cant be defensive againt mike if you short..hits way too hard...with no long jab ,please.tyson would knock toney out even if toney was blocking the shots...
:)
you mean even if tyson hits toney´s shoulder he would still got ko?. whatever i agree with you, toney is to small to tyson and beside his counter-skills i cant see how he could frustrate tyson enough to win or ko tyson.

This is another reason Toney could beat Tyson. Tyson might not hold up mentally after being outclassed by Toney.
not to mention have the mental toughness not to freeze up when in the ring.
The fact is that even if Toney never knocked Williams down, it would be a better beat down than Klitchco gave him because it would be so one sided.
His skill is so much better than so many other fighters I can see them giving up before be KO'd. When you miss all your good punches and keep taking good ones to the face, it is very disheartining.

there's no way toney would beat willliams more convincingly than klitchko, VK is by far the best heavyweight out there, he certainly wouldn't be able to knock williams out, i think it would be a decent fight in which williams has a good/decent chance of winning
I think Toney would stop Williams sooner than Vitali did. I know allot of people probably totally disagree but heres my logic why!
Klit stopped Williams from a distance behind a stiff jab and the right hand. Toney would have to fight an inside games, hammer Williams to the body. This i feel for sure will weaken Williams more so than when Klit hit him on the head. Despite his one sided beating Williams was able to block some of Klits work upstairs in their fight. Toney i feel will be able to land cleanly at will on that big torso of Williams then take it up stairs past the 5th round ( much like he did with Ruiz ). The difference here though although Ruiz was probably at his most competitive ever in the Toney fight he didn`t press forward in the later stages. I believe Williams comes forward too much, especially against a smaller guy. This i believe will be his undoing and he`ll be worn down then stopped with counter rights!
I hope this doesn`t hurt your feelings Anorak but i think Danny Williams is made for Toney. Big body to hit and average speed, Toney would win more convincingly than Klitscko did, just based on styles! Williams however may have a shot against Brewster ( average ) or Golota ( unpredictable ).

I hastily clicked "too close to call" but this is a much better question that it first appears. And I wonder why, as some have suggested, people don't try more body shots with Toney? How much could that belly of his have taken on Saturday? Even if his bitch tits took a solid shot it would give him bra strain.
But I really wouldn't like to see Toney up against Tyson or Byrd in the foreseeable future. His reign is still so fresh, so transitory. I'd like to see him with some people he could beat (not pushovers, just that Toney could beat pretty much everybody) before he starts taking difficult fights.
I too would prefer Toney to fight some fights before up - ing his competition level. Fighting a Larry Donald or a Lamon Brewster, wait a year or so and fight the Tyson`s and Byrd`s of this world. However, this is risky. Toney is near 37 yrs old. His condition on Saturday together with possible increased wear and tear for fighting at heavyweight suggests that he may be better off fighting the big fights now rather than later. Its a debatable subject but monatary wise it would make sense to fight the big ones ASAP while he is on top of his game. If Toney was younger or more disaplined training wise i`d agree with you but considering Toney`s history with weight, motiavation etc.. i think Toney should be getting the big fights in like they were his last!
I would hope Tyson takes care of business and knocks out Toney but my gut tells me that Toney would be the ultimate victor of this fight but thats not my point. My point here is: that this bout has a good chance of happenening this year, maybe late Fall. This bout is a promoters dream right now and could happen for the following reasons:
Both are big name fighters. There will always be a huge ppv market for Tyson because its Mike Tyson. For Toney, he's only the third middleweight champion to move up in weight class and win the heavyweight title(or piece of it) and Toney is a popular fighter to begin with because he's charismatic.
Both fighters want to make a big payday. For Tyson, its his debts. For Toney, he said something to the effect that he wants to clean up the division and make some money. For the Ruiz fight, he didn't make much because it was John Ruiz and they didn't even sell out of tickets for the garden.
My opinion is also that injuries happen when a fighter misses a big punch. That's why Bryd beat Vitali and I think there is a good chance that Tyson would hurt his knee again if he tried to throw huge shots at Toney and missed.
I did think it was a great point though about the bodyshots. that would definitly be the best plan for Tyson going into the fight. Toney can move his head well but Tyson's shots to the body would land.
