OK, I'm glad that we all agree on the stoppage!
I was actually playing devils advocate and wanted to see what people would say.
It's just that there were debates on some other threads I've read that the stoppage was erroneus and early. This is why I posted the link to make sure everyone agrees.
When Judah got up, for the 2nd time, Nady was holding Judah's gloves/forearms and holding him from falling backward into the ropes. If not for Nady, Judah would have kept wobblin' around and maybe toppled for the 3rd time.
Regarding the stoppage, it's simple. You fall down after getting up from any punch that's not a foul, the fight's over.
Most state comissions don't seem to enforce the "saved by the bell" rule for the 12th round anymore. I believe that Florida does, and I think all over Europe the rule still applies...it did in the Wlad fight last weekend anyway.
Thing is even if Zab knew he had to get up he still got up way too fast. He gets knocked down and he springs back to his feet in a second. No way an experienced fighter that's of sound mind would do something like that...at least I've never seen it before. It seems more like when you see a little kid trip and then get right back up...and then start crying.
Does anyone remember what were the rules for that fight?
There were 5 seconds left on that clock... could the fighter be saved by the bell?
I think tne rule "a fighter cannot be saved by the bell" applies everywhere.
The only exception is some commissions/sanctioning bodies allow a fighter to be saved by the FINAL bell.
it was a good stoppage... how often does someone get knocked down like that, stumble all over the place trying to get back up and then still come back to win the fight??
Its funny Zab just won the undisputed welterweight champion with all the class of champion but people are still talking about the knockdown in the Tszyu fight.
The excuse is that he's been mouthing off since he won again. Well, nearly every fighter mouths off from time to time. People just don't like Zab.
I like how the people that were trashing Cintron last week are now saying how Margarito is the best thing since sliced bread because he beat the fighter they were trashing so much.

It's more upsetting for Judah I think that he had Tszyu shaking a bit in the 1st and then let it all slip away so fast.
Think about this way as well: would a fighter that was in a clearer state of mind have jumped up so fast off of the canvas? No matter what you usually wait at least a few seconds to recover. Since Judah sprung back up it says to me that he was hurt bad enough that he couldn't even handle himself properly in the situation.
By the way, to me Judah looks like a drunk guy trying tp ick a fight before he falls over. Like, he's got his fist raised and he's saying "Why I oughtta..." Damn, what an embarassing situation that was.
well it is unfortunate it was stopped early......but that doesn't mean it was stopped unjustifiably......
he did the right thing, and that was the fundamental obligation of the referee, and that is to protect the boxers.
Yes, but he didn't give him the standing 8 count. He might have recovered
Nadey said the reason he stopped the fight was because of the look in Judah's eyes. Referees are trained to look for signs of post concussion syndrom, and he said he was sure Judah wasn't aware of what happened to him. There is no was anyone can see what Judah's eyes were like from TV footage. Nadey was there and made that call, and was completely justified in doing so.
No way was that a poor stoppage.
At the disciplinary hearing, Judah apologized to Nadey and thanked him for stopping the fight when he did.
Nady said it was a rule, however-- that all depends on how credible you think Nady is... personally I am not a fan so he does not get too much trust from me. But I had also not heard that this was made-up so perhaps you have just lifted the wool from my proverbial eyes!
I find it hard to believe that Judah would have been KO'ed in the remainder of the round since by the time Nady would have been done with the eight count (or even four or five count) the round would have been over. Judah got floored with less then ten seconds left on the clock! That being said, Nady had to stop the fight cause it is the rule if a fighter bounces up then hits the deck again the bout must be stopped, so no bitching about the outcome here...
Is this a real rule? Everyone keeps talking about it.. but some say it doesn't exists
Judah Vs. Tszyu - Chiken Dance Video
Now that I Looked at it over and over again.. I do think the stoppage was kind of FAST!
But at that time Judah had no chance. Tszyu would have finished him off that same round.
I does almost look fast, but how many seconds did zab waste doing the break dance moves...He wasn't "even in the building" when he got up the first time...

The job of the referee is to protect the boxer, Zab had a high potential of getting hurt if he had allowed the fight to continue.

Sorry, meant to say.. "the next round"
