You see Mayweather is so good it actually creates controversy when he says he's the best ever (as you see on the first page of the thread.) had it been some bum with a 38-4 record who said he was the best ever people would have just brushed it off. Mayweather is the greatest fighter in the world right now.

are the barrera Vs Moralez pointless?? they all bring more fans to the sport and believe me boxing right now needs more popularity. and well i mean Gatti is not a great fighter but i must agree he is by no means a bum. of course not! not because gatti is inferior in skills doesn't mean he is a fluke. i don't know why most people downplay a warrior like gatti :boxing:

I think it's great to have confidence. He is truly one of the best P4P fighters out there today. The only problem with this is that if he loses, it could tear him to pieces.

No, because they are great fighters. Ward is not a great fighter. He shouldn't have wasted his time fighting Ward when he could've fought better competition especially coming off a brutal loss to DLH. He may have gained more fans, but what about his career. He should have beat Ward in the first fight and moved on to fight better competition.

Barrera vs Morales it not the same thing as Gatti Ward. B and M are hall of famer top pound for pound fighters. Ward probably would be hard to put in top 50.

IMO, they were pointless because he could have fought much better competition. How has fighting Ward three times help his career? As long as he keeps fighting mediocre talent, he'll always be known as a blood and guts warrior who could not beat the elite fighters in his division. I honestly think that Gatti and his crew knew that he could not take on the best fighters in the division, so they opted to go after Ward. That's not going to get you much credit in the rankings, but it drew much public attention and helped the sport a great deal. In short, fighting Ward was probably the smartest decision they could have made at that point.

Best ever? That was gross exagerration on Floyd's part. He definitely needs to check his attitude, but aside from that, I think he's a great fighter. I'm not gonna hold that against him.

Just because no belts were on the line, doesn't mean they were pointless. The contribution to the sport that those fights made can't be measured in belts or money, but by blood and guts. I saw the Gatti/Ward trilogy...they were exciting to watch, but also pointless. Any way, I believe Floyd has a case for best p4p. Gatti is no bum, but he's not a Floyd Mayweather either. I think people sometimes confuse Gatti's excitedness as a fighter with greatness. He is never ranked very high, but he is still elite and not a bum by any means. His fights are some of the most entertaining you can watch and that is why he has such a big fan base. That's not overrated, that's just boxing fans who like to watch a great fight.
