What do you guys think? I was reading something about this the other day and I was like yeah they should. I think the guy was saying something about how it was a overeaction to a fight when a guy died in the 14th round. I think it was the Boom Boom fight. I think he said that the WBC dropped down to 12 but the other bodies held off for awhile until they bit the bate.
I guess the health of these guys are the most important thing but I think if we brought it back it would add a extra excitement to boxing and could halfway take it back to the glory days. Imagine if the Morales vs MAB fights were 15 rounders. Thats part of what I think makes the past generations seem better. It makes it seem more sexier. For example, we all want to see Floyd and Zoo fight and if it happened it would be great. Now, just think about if they announced this fight and they said for a bonus and to get some better PPV ratings it will be a 15 rounder. Wouldnt you love to see these guys fight for 15 rounds. I think it might even change people picks. Some who picked Floyd might say that Zoo would wear him down and KO him in the later rounds or some who picked Zoo might say that the longer the fight is, the better the chance for the boxer to win because the puncher would lose steam.
Picture this headline. Zoo stops Floyd by way of 14 round KO. And the fight reads as though Floyd was leading on all the judges cards after 12 but you could see the flow going Zoo's way. If it wouldve been a 12 rounder Floyd wouldve won but now Zoo is the undisputed #4# champ. Floyd fought so well and dominated most of the fight, winning 9 rounds on 2 of the judges cards but you could see Zoo starting to hurt him more and more as the fight went on and because of the extra rounds, he got the KO.
This happeneds often now days but with the 15 rounder we could see alot of different endings.
If this happened the ratings would start to get much higher and boxing would be much more exciting. The flip side is that it could ruin alot of fighters and make careers much shorter.
PS-I know it sounds like Chaves and Taylor but I couldnt help myself :)
Fuckinmotherfucka'
Not only to bring 15 rounds of "action" but also to extend rounds from 3 to 5 minutes!!! I mean - boxing is a tough sport and if you can't handle it, get the fuck out of the ring! Don't get me wrong, I'd be the first one to take the challenge and box for very long and extended period of time. I think it show how tough you are. But I guess that's just me. I love it brutal, I love the blood gushing out of my opponent and I love when he suffers big time.If you worry about your "brain" try different sport! I wish I lived in the old times when a lot more in the ring was allowed.
36 minutes is more than enough time to sustain damage for the fighters. While I am also a fan of the 15 round matches, I am also aware of the condition that many of these fighters would be in while fighting those last 9 extra minutes.
Today many fighters dry out to make weight and then try to replenish their bodies with a large intake of water after the weigh ins. This will not completely rehydrate the body. Furthermore, during the drying out period to make the weight, the fluid that surrounds the brain and cushions the impact of the brain to the skull is depleted aswell. Then, during the actual bout when a fighter will often be left dehydrated, that fluid is then depleted even more, leaving a very unsafe condition to be fighting another 9 minutes.
Most serious injuries occur during the later rounds, when a fighter becomes tired or has just taken enough blows to drop any normal human being. These fighters are extraordinary in that way, being able to sustain the blows and not only remain on their feet but then return the fire in a dazed state.
15 rounds would be cool for the fans but I believe that it would ultimately lead to more tragedies in the ring. Give the A.M.A more ammunition and they will surely begin the attack of another proposed ban on boxing. 12 rounds is plenty. You will still see the heroic comebacks and you will still get all of the action as a tradional 15 round title bout would give you. For the better of the sport, what you will no longer get are the amount of serious brain injuries or deaths. Sure, they are bound to happen but why give them another 9 minutes to even get to that point..............Rockin' :boxing:
My thoughts exactly
nope, shouldnt happen. fighters today are too bitchy and too much of pussies to really take risks. and if 15 rounders are reintroduced, we will have a TON of boxers complaining, bitching, moaning, and whining about how its "not fair, and too dangerous".
fighters today are too soft for 15 rounders.
Name some fights that should have been 15 rounders
DeLaHoya-Trinidad Trinidad would've knocked DLH out if there was 9 minutes left
Morales-Barrera - We all wanted more
Morales-Pacquiao - ***
Hagler-Leonard
Bowe-Holyfield
Jones-Tarver
I Think for championship fights it would be good to see 15 rounds of action. The ref's now day's stop most fights before any real damage is done. But saying that back in the old days it don't seem to have done no harm then? You can die running for a bus and you can die from smoking I think it should be the fighters choice!!

I think they shoukld have 15 rounders for BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG fights if both fighters agree... lol
but then injuried and deaths etc.
I think 12 rounds is safer, 15 rounds is too long.
How safe do you want boxing to be? Boxing is inherently an unsafe activity. 12 rnds is safer than 15 rnds. 10 rnds is safer than 12rnds. 8 rnds is safer than 10 rnds., etc. That being said, you can still get your skull caved in ~ in the 1st round. It would tickle the hell outa me, if the boxers wanted 20 rounders. The boxers, like in the old days, would have to be very tough in order to compete at the upper level. We, the fans, would be completely dazed and amazed.
as a fan of boxing in the 50's and 60's i would love to see a return to 15 rounds, but then again i have'nt got to fight! it would be nice if someone conducted a poll among present active boxers to see what they think. any pro's on this board got any views?
:biggthump What he said. You took the words right out of my mouth, man. It would be awesome if the boxers themselves cold vote 15 round fights back into existence, if they were so inclined. From a fan's point of view, 15 rounders were way better. It also gives the fighter that's behind, three more rounds too kick the other guy's ass. :boxing:

Agreed, bring on the 15th round! I just got done watching Hearns Leonard II and Sugar would have owned his ass just like in thier first fight if had gone past 12. Also, I think it would add quite a bit of depth to the sport. Guys were tougher when they went through the 15 round grind. And as far as safety goes, I don't think 3 more rounds per fight will make or break a guy. My .02...........
