I have gotten in arguments about who are the top 10 havyweights of all time with many of my friends. Some include Mike Tyson, some dont, it depends on the person i guess. So to everyone hear who are your top 10 heavyweights of all time? My list is a lot of throw back fighters.
1.Muhammed Ali
2.Rocky Marciano
(NO ORDER)
3.Joe Louis
4.Jack Dempsey
5.Jack Johnson
6.Ken Norton
7.Sonny Liston
8.Joe Frazier
9.Joe Walcott
10.George Foreman
Not 100% on it but its a start. I give Tyson props but never was a big fan and consider him 3rd best of his generation (Holyfield *prime*, and Lewis)
Haha, yeah that Liston selection is pretty sketchy I guess. Basically my list is more of a popularity contest for me then it is an assessment of skill. But my justifaction for Tyson and not Holyfield is the fact that as good as Holy was, Tyson defined an era of heavyweight boxing (although it was reletively short and a transitional one)- top that off with the historical importance of the fact that he was the youngest heavyweight champion and I had to put him on the list. And in my eyes I could not justify putting him any higher then he was placed (despite all of what I just wrote above, haha). And as much as I felt like putting the Real Deal in at that last spot, Lewis beat him twice (although technically the first was a draw) and was pretty much the sole brights spot in the division afterwards... And like I said, it is partially a list of my favorite heavyweights anyway.
Here is my top ten:
1. Liston
2. Ali
9. (tie) Tyson
?
Liston better than Ali? :thumbsdow
Tyson better than Holyfield? :nono:
Holyfield not on the list?
The rest of your list is pretty good. Those two sections are hard for me to digest though.

and I will go ahead and admit it now- I may be a little biased with my choice with Liston at number one, but I really think Sonny may be the baddest man to ever walk the face of the earth. And if he hand't hit the deck in the rematch in Lewiston, then who knows how history would remember him?
hmm
Roy Jones was the best heavyweight ever and proved it by fghting the best heavyweight ever before him. Like Roy says:
"Don't hate me cuz you ain't me!"
Roy would have pulled gamecock moves over Ali's tired ass and the ref would have had to save him. Luckily for Ruiz he had a hard head or the same would have happened to him.
considering the way they trained in the 40s 50s, I doubt marciano could take off another 10 pounds and still be able to fight the night after
if roy could take over 20 than the rock could take 10, thats not alot in water, ive done it myself.
No lightheavy actually.
he used to be at 185 only needs to dehydrate 10 too be at lightheavy.
Sounds like a lot but most lightheavy normaly weighs about 200 pounds.

Cruiserweight. If you havnt seen rocky fight he takes alot of punishment as he did in Jersy joe(1) But the thing that amazed me even going down and getting beat round after round. The man wouldnt stop he just punched and punched then in the 13th round BOOM. The rematch was even better. Archie hit rocky with a awsome combo but the rock just came and came and knocked down archie 5 times before the night was over in the 9th. in todays boxing if a fighter took any half the punishment rock had taken it would be over i'll say that. Shit if a fighter lands a flush punch stumbling a fighter the ref will call it.

Well, not because Foreman is a better boxer than Ali, but because of the way Foreman succesfully made his comeback and became the HW Champion again. To me Foreman is the reason why I am boxing right now. Ofcourse Ali is also great, and sure he is a better boxer than Foreman, but look who got the best of it now.
1. Foreman
2. Ali
3. Tyson
To me this is my list of great heavyweights. Ofcourse it is open for discussion, nut this is how I feel about it.
How do you have Foreman ahead of Ali?
That shit makes no sense.
yes many forget that if marciano had been fighting now he would have either been about 210 (modern nutrition and/ore steroids) ore he would hve been a lightheavy.
either way he would hve been great.

Muhammed Ali is the greatest heavyweight of all time, and the second best FIGHTER of all time next to Sugar Ray Robinson. End of fugging story.

The guy was only 185lbs .... of course he wouldn't last against Lewis. If they had him fighting now, in his weight class, and not against today's heavy weights, he would still be a great boxer. Some of these boxers today would have forty-plus pound weight advantages on him. He fought quite a few guys that had fifteen pounds on him, and he beat them all. I think he's definitely a great fighter, and easily deserving to be in the top ten, and even the top five.

i totally agree. Rocky was good but IMO no means great. there are so many fighters i know he couldn't last with. Ali,holmes,frazier,L.lewis,J. louis,Holyfield, tyson, liston, jack johnson, and many more. He was tough and came at a good time, but not in my top ten

In today rules probably not. Ali yea on points sure. Holmes i am not so sure about that. Holyfield i highly doubt that in what rules todays or then? Holyfield couldnt go 15 rounds with rocky coming at him punching and punching. Neither could liston. In todays rules i can name a few fighters who could out score and probably stop him do to cuts and what not.
