SALT LAKE CITY -- Former world heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe is hoping for a second comeback fight this month after an eight-year absence from the ring.
The contest, against Willie Chapman, has been penciled in for March 25, but will be subject to the completion of paperwork by the appropriate authorities in Utah.
"There's a series of things we've got to go through before we approve that fight," said Richard Weinsoft, director of the Pete Suazo Utah Athletic Commission.
The 38-year-old Bowe (41-1, 33 knockouts) last fought in September, knocking out Marcus Rhode in the second round of his first appearance since 1996.
An injury forced Bowe to withdraw from a bout in November.
He was released from prison on May 17 last year after serving 17 months for kidnapping his first wife and their children in 1998.
Bowe became the undisputed heavyweight champ after beating Evander Holyfield in 1992 but was beaten by Holyfield in 1993.

And by the way. 90 percent of the threads started in the opinion section are by Rick Reeno. It is a section that people shouldn't be ignoring.

That is because your threads are designed to agitate people.
YOU take one of the most anticipated fights of the year with the most hardcore fans on this site, and you tell everyone this fight is going to suck. You give no explanation at all! Just your opinion, because it seems like you like people posting on your threads. This guy doesn't try to make people mad, it seems like you do.
Also this guy is sorry for re-posting. You think that a post in the opinion section is ok to be posted somewhere else on this site.
Sorry man. I scanned the first page and didn't see it. Oh well, Shit happens.
I agree it could be a mistake health wise, but from a financial standpoint it may be his best/only option.
It happens. Just hit the search button or at least clich the new posts button, before posting news.
Bowe and Meldrick Taylor are both in the same boat and it's sad...because both guys had unfortunate circumstances that hurt their career (appetite and Julio Caesar Chavez).

It's always sad when a fighter has to fight beyond his capabilities for money :( It's happening too often. Beautiful but cruel sport
