Am I the only guy who thinks that Sturm can beat Hopkins?

I love X and I think he is the #4# best but Ive never been 100% on him. People talk about 20 defenses but who were they against. I think what Floyd has done maybe even more impressive. He got a title like 16 fights ago and is still undefeated so that is like 16 defenses but they are against better overall comp and in 4 divisions and he will probally be moving up again soon. Hopkins beat mostly bums and fought a couple of them 2 or 3 times. He has only 2 significant wins and they were against Tito and Oscar who were both in only there second fight at 160 and we all know that Oscar didnt belong there so there is only 1 good win he has. Now he beat Tito fear and square but he was still the bigger man then and Tito started at 147 and Oscar at 135. He always calls out littile guys but never moves up. I wouldve loved to see him fight Calzaghe, Jones, Tarver, or even someone like Lacy now. We assume he would beat Lacy but how do you know that Lacy's power wont be too much for the smaller Hopkins to handle. How do you know that fighting these bigger guys, we wont see Hopkins hurt for the first time. You criticize other guys for being hurt and say that Hopkins has the best chin but alot of guys got hur when they move up. There were so many top fighters at 160 back in the day and he never fought any of them except for Jones which he lost. He shouldve been moved up instead of calling smaller guys cowards because they wont fight him. The same goes for Zoo. I think if you want to truely be #1 #4# then you have to move up in weight. You can stay at your weight but sooner or later you have to move up. Now he's talking about moving up but against who, Glen Johnson, a guy he already beat? Now thats why I like Sturm. He is like a big middleweight. He is tall and has nice size. He would be the first big guy who I have seen X fight in a long time and I think his style and jab would give Hopkins fits. I would pick Sturm in the upset, while Hopkins would look like a frustrated littile guy

Well thats bold and shocking. I know you love Sturm, as your screen name can testify but really.....Hopkins is in another class from 99% of fighters and Sturm IS a world class middleweight but Hop knows this and in my opinion he won`t be anything less than 100% and he`ll beat Sturm on points!

So make up your mind, kid. Do you think Sturm would win or do you think Hopkins would win, because in another thread I could have sworn I read you post how Hopkins will always be more experienced than Sturm and it wouldn't be a good fight for Sturm. So please...let everyone know, who do you think would win the fight? try reading it clearly next time i said of course hopkins is gonan have more expernce then sturm he has like 40+ fights and is like 40 years old does that say he is gonna win lmao. no sturm will win unless he does what eastman did and follows hopkins around

I agree. The jab Sturm has is crisp. But what's he going to do on the inside, or if Hopkins closes the range on him...how can he keep him back without letting his hands go? What is he going to do when Hopkins gets inside that jab, and how is he going to take those hard right hands over the top of that jab what Hopkins will ultimately deliver as a result of Sturm's abusing the jab. The way I see Hopkins beating him is that he's not only going to nullify his best weapon, but he's also going to discourage him from using it. Countering one shot, or a 1-2 combo, is alot more easier than countering 3-4 shots.. sturm is quick and since he is 5"11 he will use his ducking ability and stay away from hopkins, thats what he was doing against taylor and he'll do it agaisnt B-hop who isnt quick anymore. like i said sturm is gonan make hopkins look old

I think allot depends on what type of fight Hopkins fights. Sturm has ability no doubt but his lack of power will allow Hopkins to be brave and perhaps rough him up at times. I`d pick Nard over 12 but it would be a good fight and you never know...

Sturm will HAVE to let his hands go against Hopkins if he wants to win. It's not like the DLH fight, where he can triple jab and maybe put a right cross behind it...or throw the occasional left hook and take light pitter patter punches in return. X hits a lot harder than does DLH. Sturm has a pretty tight defense, and he's strong...both positives for him. It's just that X does so much and is so crafty that he can almost always find a way to break his opponent down. The jab isn't enough to foil Hopkins' strategy. Felix is gonna have to come with that jab and a small nuclear missile if he wants to succeed against Nard. I agree. The jab Sturm has is crisp. why does every fighter have to let there hands go? thats not his style thats not how is is trained to box. hopkins is gonna find it very hard to counter and lure a guy who is faster and doesnt give alot of punches to work agaisnt him. I think you people who say Hopkins slowed down only saw the Félix Trinidad fight and keep comparing it to his last two fights. You people fail to realize that when he steps into a fight, he adjusts according to how the other fighter is fighting. As far as Sturm goes, like I said in my previous post, the guy is weak and still doesn't know when to let his hands go, unless a guy openly shows that he's hurt or wobbled. Just because he has a pretty jab, he's still not in the same league as Hopkins.

Very good point. Hope Vargas shakes things up a little at middleweight. Who knows maybe winky will beat Tito and he will become a big name at 160.

Sturm has fought nobody worth mentioning since he fought DLH. DLH is his the only reason he is even being discussed at the moment. ...Well Sturm did fight Hassine Cherifi, if you think he is worth mentioning. But the only reason Cherifi would be worth mentioning is because Tito wooped his ass. Well how many are worth mentioning at 160. He's not that old.

All Im saying is Sturm gets too much credit for beating a fat oscar, and on points at that.Eastman was a solid fighter,by no means great,but i wouldnt call him trash, maybe he lost to a washed up joppy,and he didnt do that bad,at least he knocked down joppy,something i believe taylor didnt do,even if that was a largely one sided match.Hopkins,well i dont kno if slowed down or not,but hes a great boxer,he can fight on the outside all day(3 punches a round dosent bother him :p ),sturm would HAVE to try and be the aggressor if he wanted to land punches, and thats when Hop would shine. Even tho I think it would be entertaining to see strum win, he would then have utterly OWN3D Golden boy promotions . :boxing: (but i stil say he's average ) :D Yeah but I dont look at who he fought, I look at how he fought and I like his style. I think he can be effective against a guy like X. He has also looked even better since the Oscar fight

I agree with you on your criticism of Hop,well partially anyways,I really believed Hop was trash,only fighting fat wleterweights, but his fight with Eastman put all that too rest, the only person i would give a chance at beating hop is taylor,and he might get schooled,If i didnt think Hop was impressive for those reasons, why would i think Strum is for the same reasons?Strum couldnt put a fat welterweight down, if he was great he would have done what hop did,Sturm won that fight, but it was hardly impressive.Im not exactly an X fan,but i think he's far better than someone like Sturm. not just too quick, but too powerful. we never saw if sturm has a chin because dlh isn't a big puncher at junior middlweight. Hops would give sturm a boxing lesson and then start to bust him up in the later rounds, i think it'd be like eastman Come on man, you act like X is Tyson. He doesnt have KO power. He breaks fighters down. Sturm is too big for X to KO

You guys are wrong. The Hopkins that fought Tito and would beat Sturm but this Hopkins is different. He is getting old and he is slowing down. Sturm has the perfect style to fight him and he wouldve gave a prime Hopkins trouble. His size, defense, and jab would make it hard for Hopkins to reach him and the kid is getting better every fight
