check the out the strength difference between tszyu and hatton that is gonna be a factor in this fight as hatton is very physical. i quote sombody's words here
"i,ve just watched 2 tapes 1 of hatton training + 1 of tszyu training on the hatton tape the most he can bench press for 1rep is 160lbs + that is a very good weight for a 10 stone frame + he was very pleased with the amount he pressed however on the tszyu tape tszyu was benching 300LBS + said he was working his way up 2 even more weight which is superhuman for a 10stone 5'7 frame now i am not in any way saying that the fight is won on how can bench the most but it gives you a very good idea of who will win hatton supporters who say hatton is stronger than Tszyu are talking BS once hatton is in the ring with Tszyu he will realise what hes let himself in for the biggest beating of his life"
That's pretty unbelievable that a guy that light and small can bench press that much. kostya tszyu is a freak of nature.
june 4rth is the fight i think
latest comments:
IBF welterweight king Kostya Tszyu, who will meet the enormously popular Ricky Hatton on June 4 in the most hostile of environments – the challenger’s backyard before 18,000 fans at MEN Arena in Manchester, England, says the fight presents exactly the kind of challenge he needs. "This fight has motivated me to train harder than I ever have before," said Tszyu, who has won 13 consecutive bouts, 11 by knockout. "Hatton is a very good fighter. He wants to get something that has belonged to me for many years. I am looking forward to the fight because I have the hunger too. Hatton will give me a tremendous physical challenge, but I will be ready. Tszyu is not concerned about the unusual start time. "Actually, it will benefit me more than Hatton because 11AM Aussie time is 2AM in England. When I go to Manchester, I will train at two in the morning, but I do not intend to change my routine at all.....Hatton will come at me, especially with the big crowd urging him on. He learned to move forward and apply pressure at the beginning of his career. I, on the other hand, can box or slug. I will have to fight smartly because Hatton is strong."

Ricky Hatton stated, "I have waited a long time to prove myself against the very best, and now I am getting that chance against a boxer regarded as the king in my weight class. At times, it really gets on my nerves when people say I am not world class. I have done all that is asked of me. I have not had a lot of close calls. I should receive a lot more credit than I do.....as strong as Tszyu is, he is not an exceptional in-fighter. So, if I move in quick and throw punches, I will have some success. He just pushed and shoved against Mitchell and Judah. However, because he was so physically strong, he could get away with it. I will deliver volumes of combinations to the head and body. He will not be able to push me around. My danger zone is going to be where Tszyu is in the range to explode one of his big right hands. I have a lot of respect for his right. I do not want to see how strong it is."

SHOWTIME will televise the potential fight of the year candidate on Saturday, June 4, 2005, at 9 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast). The highly-anticipated event will be co-promoted by Frank Warren's Sports Network and Millenium Events.
dude dude
leg power has allsorts to do wit ur punching power im a boxer my self and never really used to use my legs properly now my new trainer has taut me a little better how to use my hole body when i punch i can bang three times harder that i used to
havent u ever heard the saying
"a punch starts from the floor"
also i dont think bench pressing has any thing to do with the actual match its how you use ur weight and what you do with it not how much u can bench or curl or what ever
of course this will give u a good indication of what ur potentioal is and what you could do if you use ur assests properly
and belive me hatton knows what do do with his strengh im sure so does kostya
boy this will be amazing fight
lol We will see guy's lets just hope that Hatton can't get inside!! If he is still in there at 7 its anyones fight..As a fighter Hatton is one of the few fighter's out there who are really into there boxing and not the pound note. That actual fight means more to Hatton than the money I think? I'll be in his corner on the night routing him on. He will have more of a chance than Naz did with Berrea!!
Stronger legs will actually help you stay on your feet when absorbing a harshly punishing blow:
Really? I did not know that Rockin. That is news to me, I figured it was meaningless. Shows what I know.

Squats and deadlifts are much more impressive displays of real functional strength. Bench is probably the most overrated lift of all time.
.
Actually Achilles:
Leg strength has literally nothing to do with boxing. The common assumption is, that having strong legs...gives you "driving" power. Yes it does. But not Punching power. Look at most boxers with a chiseled upper body..........HARDLY ANY of them have any leg muscle. Look at RJJ, he is all upperbody. The muscle groups you need in boxing are pectorals, biceps, triceps, deltoids, and Latissimus Dorsi(Lats, in your back). Lovemoure N'Dou is super muscular, but has frog legs as well.
Mike Tyson is the Only boxer who I have ever seen, that focuses on leg strength. I have no idea why. I think he just wants to look proportioned. Lennox Lewis has never lifted a weight with his legs his entire life IMO. That is why they are hairy and "Not-Toned". His upper body.......Different story.
The last paragraph is mere speculation and opinion I may add. I have no idea as to any of the fighter's weight training habits.

Mmmm Tszyu might be pessing alot in the gym but hes gonna need to be able to do that! As when Hatton puts him flat on his face in this fight he wil need all the strengh to push himself off the canvous. lol Can't wait to see this fight
Back to sleep buddy, cause the only way that is happening is in your dreams!!!!! :boxing:
kostya tszyu vs hatton

Hatton can only bench press 160 pounds? You gotta be kidding me. I'm 144 5'9, 18 and I bench press 150 pounds 12 times as a normal workout. The most I ever tried for max was 205.
What a gentle way of putting things Frank, but your spot on. Strengh isn`t about size, its partly mental focus and natural inner power. Tsyzu is a naturally strong man, this may help him in the fight during clinches etc...but i don`t think it will be a deciding factor in the fight.
As for the result. I lean towards Tyszu but i have a feeling Hatton isn`t gonna be the push over everyone seems to think he is.
It means nothing in my opinion. I'm about 240 and can only probably bench press about 280(it's been a while) but I'm pretty sure I could rag him about like a doll in a clinch and smash him through the table at arm wrestling. He couldn't bully Tackie or Phillips in the clinch and I doubt he'll do it to Hatton either. He may still KTFO him though.
Squats and deadlifts are much more impressive displays of real functional strength. Bench is probably the most overrated lift of all time.
Still it is telling if Tsyu can bench 300 lbs while still doing all of that running, sparring, rope skipping, and other cardio he has to do for boxing. Constant aerobic activity weakens your lifts. I'd be interested in how much he could bench if he just concentrated on the weights. Obviously that would ruin his boxing career but I'm just curious.
damn if tszyu can do that
then the equal to tszyu in the heavyweight division would have to bench over 500 lb
and for the guys saying it doesnt mean anythin, wrong..bench means plenty if you got speed behind it, its a good benchmark for seeing how strong a guy is,along with a power clean
tszyu is gonna hurt hatton, he's stronger, more powerful, fought better opposition, etc.it sucks
every time a good white fighter comes along, he gets his ass blown out of the water. this is one of those times. (im white btw)

....Yeah, it's pretty common knowledge that Zoo actually has world clas weight lifter strength. The guy is s freak of nature.
yes but it has been confirmed that mosley took steroids and look how bulky he is, he's not in his natural weightclass anymore because of all the muscle he put on, tszyu still is.
