Eastman planning Hopkins trilogy
Howard Eastman is hoping that Bernard Hopkins will honour his commitment to a rematch of their closely fought battle for the undisputed world middleweight Championship at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on Saturday night. Pound for pound king Hopkins told Eastman’s promoter Mick Hennessy that Eastman deserved a second showdown following his outstanding effort. For the Londoner, it can’t come soon enough.
“I would like to thank Bernard Hopkins for this opportunity,” Eastman said. “I hope he will give me another one.
“He doesn’t have to move up light heavyweight just yet (to fight Glencoffe Johnson).
“There is plenty of business left at middleweight. And we don’t need to be bringing in any other guys either.
“Jermain Taylor for instance isn’t the calibre of fighter Bernard Hopkins is.
“No disrespect, I would love to fight him as well, but I want Bernard Hopkins.
“Lets do it one more time; then I will even the score. Then we can do it a third time. After that we can look at the other guys.”
So why does Eastman believe things will be different the second time around?
“I will fight 12 hard rounds toe to toe,” he explains.
“I couldn’t stick to my game plan tonight. I wanted to get inside and work close, but every time I got near Hopkins the referee called for a break.
“I was fighting two guys in there. The referee kept interrupting what two fighters have got to do.
“Like I say, next time round I will work on going 12 rounds toe to toe. Not that it will go the distance.”
By going to war Eastman will hope that he can deny Hopkins the chance to get on his bike again.
He added: “He ran for the whole fight; it was his strategy; he knew he had to get away from me.
“I don’t blame him for fighting that sort of fight; he did what he had to do. He was doing his job.
“But I just think that a champion should box like a champion. He should come to fight like I did, not run. I came to his backyard and I was the aggressor the whole time in there.
“It takes two guys to fight.”
Hop should definitly do this fight again, and then a third time, and then beat up joppy again, and then do that a third time, then he could take on De La Hoya again, and have more title defenses than anyone ever has. And then he could fight De La Hoya a third time, he could probably get all this done before january if he schedules it right.
Yes, let him fight Mickey Rourke too, just so he can face a heavier opponent so all B-Hop haters can stop bitching and whining about him staying in middleweight.

Did I read the original post correctly? Did the post actually say their closely fought battle? Are you kidding me? Hopkins schooled Eastman, he shut him down, Eastman couldn't land anything! The only thing Eastman did was run his mouth about how he was going to KO Hopkins in 5 - yeah, sure, whatever!
The only real thing Eastman landed was a big paycheck because he sure didn't land a big punch. He certainly wasn't close to winning the fight, in ANY round, much less by KO, I had Hopkins winning it by a mile, not even remotely close! And that guy is the Euro Champ? If Eastman is the best they have to offer, they had better all stay on the other side of the pond, because they won't cut it in the U.S.!
lol dude you make my day
Eastman wants to get paid and is reluctant to face it. He missed the ring now he best get back to work fighting some contenders instead of the tough guys he's fought in his last 4 fights before Hopkins.
That is, if he really wants to fight for some money again.

You sound like a person who properly judges fights.
If you'll browse the forum a bit, you'll notice a lot of Eastman fans believe he not only didn't get outpointed, but that the decision was controversial. Hilarious stuff ;-)

The ref did the same thing Nady did to Ruiz. Everytime the fighters would get close he would step in, which is what won Jones the heavyweight title....But also Bernard is a mover, it wouldnt have mattered Hopkins running and counter punching Eastmans punches all night was the main factor in Hopkins winning that fight.
dude you know damn well what Ruiz would have done if Nady let him manhug. Come on now. Manhug his way to another Don King referee havin ass win.
If you were Hopkins, would you give this guy a rematch?
maybe if he showed hop some real respect on world wide live television. given his previous disrespectful comments, he shouldn't give him another shot, but hop could easily conquer him twice, I think he should go ahead and give him a trilogy just to make it an easy 25. eastman has earned his weak ass payday (what will he get, like 75 grand per fight?)
hahaha good one
Eastman brought nothing to the table against Hopkins, the sad thing is, he knew it too, and continues to talk and blame his performance on the referee and basically whatever else he can. He talked alot of trash, and is now turning into a whiner about the whole fight, patheic.
i know
reminded me of king and tyson after douglas beat him, how they tried to protest the loss and get it reversed lmao
B-Hop is approaching the end of his career due to father time and wants Big fights= Big Money...Do u blame him? He'll have 2 or 3 more fights and then he's outta the game. Eastman should have put on a better fight that night because he won't get another crack at B-hop's titles until B-hop retires.
i think he should give eastman 2 more shots, isnt like theres a chance eastman can win, it's two more easy defenses on top of his three fights to make it 25 defenses. what a legacy. perfect storybook ending.
If you were Hopkins, would you give this guy a rematch?
I admit that Hopkins only did enough to win each round. With the exception of the first couple, Hop won every round.
Hop can make about 10 times as much fighting other fighters in his division as well as other fighters in higher divisions than he will make with another fight or two against Eastman.
From Eastman's perspective, he can fight Hopkins every three months for 10 times his normal salary per fight for the rest of his life becuase he learned that Hopkins is trying to win, not hurt the other guy, so Eastman doesn't have the possibility of getting hurt when forming his decisions.
There will never be a rematch of this fight! Never! If there is ever a rematch, I will give up all of my points to an Eastman fan.
I said this somewhere else and I'll say it here. Who do they want to attend this rematch? I'm sure only the promoters and ref will be there because not even the HBO commentary would want to see this.
i agree, Eastman didn't do anything to suggest he deserves a rematch
Man got beat and he ain't happy. So's everybody else who lost to Hopkins. Point being, he had ONE shot to step up, ONE opportunity to take be champ and he couln't do anything to take away the title from Hopkins. B-hop will just bat him again in a rematch. No point.
I'd have to agree. I saw nothing in the fight that would make me think that Eastman would win a rematch, Hopkins could do that all day to him. He'd have a chance if Hopkins decided to stand and fight but why should he? Eastman just didn't have the hand speed to land enough from distance and that's not going to change. He probably could have made it closer had he been allowed to work inside by the ref though.
I'd have to say that I wasn't impressed by Hopkins either. His defense was great but offensively he looked awkward apart from the left hook and straight right leads and counters. He looked off balance every time he came forward to try and throw combos. A better/faster technician than Eastman would have given him hell on that performance.

Exactimundo...there was no evidence in that fight to suggest that Eastman would see any other outcome in a rematch. He's simply outclassed and outwitted.
