Hopkins embarasses England's top gun

If Howard "The Duck" Eastman is the best that there is from across the pond, then I have to wonder about the competition over there. Either Bernard Hopkins is that damn good or Eastman is monstrously overrated. In any case, the inevitable proved to be the answer as the world middleweight champion dismantled the British challenger in one of his easiest fights over the last half-decade.
On my card, I had Hopkins ahead by a tally of 118-110. What an ass-beating. Eastman was maddeningly one-dimensional and never actually challenged the champion, his best shots being laughed off by Hopkins. It must have been frustrating. Hopkins played with him over the last six rounds, smacking jabs and whipping fiercely undefendable left hooks almost at will. It was like watching a big cat play with an injured mouse just before growing bored enough to kill it.
Some fans booed Hopkins effort. There are some sad and mindless people who only want to see knockouts and don't know what true boxing is. When I pay to see a fight, I want to see 12 rounds. If it doesn't go twelve, oh well. But, I never boo the action unless it's John Ruiz.
I commend Hopkins and congratulate him for his historic 20th title defense and he is, without a doubt, the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world today.
Enough said.
to the author you contradict yourself there my son, though its you opinion and i respect that.
You say that Hopkins is the best p4p out there, and yet he embarrassed Eastman..well if he is the best p4p that would be expected. Howard for all his heart is a one paced and limited. You hear very few brits saying eastman would win. I predicted a wide UD to Nard. Be nice to see if he could handle Joe C someone with real power though outside his weight. (tho i quesiton calzaghe's love for the game at this juncture but still would be an interesting fight).
Secondly the fight wasnt that wide, check two of the judges scorecards it was hardly a massacre was it. And newsfalsh Tito and Oscar were both beaten inside the distance, this wasnt as wide as the fight against Allen. Really half a decade you cant have watched BHOP much lately can you?
Thirdly you seem to encompass the whole european scene on this one fight which is blatently stupid and shows a distinct lack of respect and knowledge.
Do some research there are some good fighters on fringe world class out there and you also fail to recognise Junior witter dumping Ndou on his arse twice something that neither Cotto not Mitchell could do.
that was on the same card mate, surely if you are going to say things like is that the best you have, then you would have watched the undercard as well as the main event.
oops! ;)
here some world class brtis alone to make ya think!
Hatton V Kostya for the universally accepted as linear light Welter champ
Woods V Hoye IBF light heavy champ.
Brodie v Chi last year twice. brodie can come again if he drops to S-bantam (where wayne mccullough is also looking to secure a rematch with larios)
Harrison - WBO feather champ
Nelson - WBO cruiser champ and avoided like the plague by other champs.
David Barnes may well work his way up to meaningful shot this year and is one to watch at welterweight.
Joe Calzaghe universally accepted as super middle number one.
Junior Witter now being lined up to fight Gatti
Esham pickering European Bantam champ
Nicky Cook european feather champ.
Carl Froch up and coming prospcet with real venom in his punches at super middle.
Carl Thompson the old warrior still out there and would give any of the top ten a decent nights work at Cruiser.
Enzo Macc, agian cruiser weight with real power and look for him to emerge in the next year as a world force.
Wayne Alexander looking to secure a title shot against Daniel Santos
As you can see, the british scene is flourishing and no we dont need to put all our hopes on Amir Khan, what we do have to put our hopes into is more intelligent reporting than above as to the true state of the game.
thank you and no offence intended. I just dont agree.
:boxing:
P.S. I thought Vitali K the number one heavy in the flagship division was from Europe? Silly me.

so in fact you have 5 independently ranked champs out of 16.
hardly a clean sweep in fact your great rivals Mexico have claim to be more dominant.
Wrong. But, nice try.
I Watched Eastmans performance and it reminded me of his fight with Joppy years before. He has not improved as he stated and by any stretch he has not gained competeive experience since the Joppy fight. That is the major problem with British boxers, there are few world class fighters to compete against over there. They just dont get it...there are no shortcuts when it comes to world class opposition and experience.
ITS AHSAME THIS SITE HAS SOME GOOD FOLK ON HERE, BUT AS IS WITH LIFE THE MINDLESS MINORITY......
some days it just gets too much and i have to leave or end up in full scale rows, which are pretty pointless sat at the end of a pc! :D
I know mate. It helps you step back if you remember that half of them are silly little teenagers just trying to get a rise out of you. ;)

ive actually used some of this post to shut Mr Swift up and also told him he is bordering on racism.
very strange behaviour to be honest.
I dont even drink tea. :D
I'm not sure if Swifty's just a wind up merchant so I've ignored him so far. He's definitely not to be taken seriously either way though.

you mean another ignorant tosser with a loose understanding of boxing.
theres plenty about.
Kinda gutted i penned such a response,
I enjoyed reading it mate. :) There seems to be a few on here with an irrational hate of all things British / European, especially that fucking hillbilly Jonny Swift and that ridiculous little Japanese boy, Soko, who still thinks we have a king and Beckham's our best sportsman.
I wouldn't waste your breath on this guy JPW, he has the stereotypical insular American outlook judging by his other posts and I'd be very surprised if he'd even heard of half of the guys you've mentioned, never mind seen them fight. I'd be even more surprised if he'd sold any articles. Enough said.

It really ain't looking great for the UK right now because I can't see much of a chance of Hatton beating Tyzyu, but Amir Khan is on the horizon I think he'll reserect his countries boxing legacy.
