Premature Stoppage?

I feel that the ref was right to stop the fight. Everyone could see that Spinks was a human punchbag and it saved him more punishment.

I didn't see the fight, but does anybody else see the irony of crazy legs asking a ref to stop a fight?

Spinks wanted to fight Trinidad; can you imagine him getting hit by Tito? Zab almost knocked his head off, Tito would've sent him into next week. Tito is taller, rangier, stronger, and a more acurate puncher than Judah. Spinks better thank his lucky stars DK didn't make that fight. Like I said at the bottom of this thread, I think Spinks would hold his own with Tito and might win

Zab even thought it was overkill. He looked at the ref like WTF man!! And that is saying something as Zab is a killer in the ring.

Maybe that was because 2 fights before a previously undefeated fighter lay motionless in the corner for 5 or more minutes, was fitted for a neckbrace, and taken out of the arena in a stretcher to the hospital. I agree, Zab stopped punching twice and asked the ref to stop it because he said Cory's eyes were rolling to the back of his head. He said he didnt want to see Cory get seriously hurt. I agree theres no way it was premature Cory was hurt and was just going to get hurt worse if the fight went on.

Man that MF was a walkin potato. Even Judah was like "Hey you gonna stop this ref?". Spinks would have been made into sweetpotato pie if it were to continue!

If there were no ropes, Spinks would have been down. You could make the argument that Spinks could have got a standing 8 because the ropes held him up. I think that when Judah had him out, Judah could have gone to the body and made Spinks crumpble and won it that way instead of having to wait for the ref. I think the stoppage was perfect, spinx may have recouped, he was the champ, the ref was giving him an oppertunity. This is one fight I would have like to have seen a Standing 8, but they rarely use the standing 8.. I think the ref would have issued an 8 before the flush shots. Hats off to Judah, now he needs to puplicly appologize to Jay Nady.

thats some of the funniest shit i have ever heard I agree. Spinks - Tito? What the F? And I think it should have been stopped when Zab backed off. If he says he says Spink's eyes rolling around the ref should have seen the same thing and stopped it.

If it was premature Spinks would have hit Judah when he was walking with his hands down talking to the ref.The stoppage was pretty late IMO.

The stoppage was late in my opinion, When Spinks was wobbled and looked like a weeble but didnt fall down and bounced into the ropes and didnt throw any punches thats when the fight should have been stopped, Not when he was bounced from one side to the other and all the way across the other side. It was late in my opinion, Spinks didnt throw one punch or keep his guard up. The guy was completely out on his feet. ref stopped it too late........... if it went on for 10 more sec.. he wudve died

Does anyone think so? Spinks was hurt but he was making Zab miss like crazy most of the time, and then Zab stopped punching and was bull shiting. I dont think I wouldve stopped it yet. I wouldve made Judah pay the price for stopping to much. There was only 15 seconds left in the round but the ref doesnt know that so it's hard to say. Spinks manager said that he was about to stop it anyway so it doesnt matter. I also think Judah played an inexperienced ref when he was telling him to stop it. It reminded me of the Calzaghe-Mitchell fight. Do you think that Spinks couldve cleared his head in between rounds and survived the next round? He still might wouldnt have made it out the round because he bounced of the ropes the last time with his hands down and Judah cocked back the left like he was going to decapitate him. Did you guys see when Judah hurt him the first time? It looked like he made Spinks do the Matrix :D. I also disagree with people about Spinks moving up in weight. I think he still can. He doesnt need power because his D and boxing skills are so good. It will be hard for anyone to beat him including Tito. Zab matches up with him great because he is a lefty and super fast. but he had the pressure that he was in Cory hometown...I would blame more Cory's corner than the ref. Perhaps so but getting heat on you shouldnt matter as a referee, You are in their to protect the 2 fighters from any serious harm and Spinks was in the red. The fact that Spinks trainer was almost on the ring apron grabbing the ropes while Spinks was getting pummeled on the other side makes for good argument that the ref should have stopped it, if the corner was that close to. Spinks was in serious trouble.

Good call by the ref..I would like to see Zab against DLH or Mosley next. I disagree, I believe the ref was to interested in the fight as a spectator and let it go on to long. Spinks was rocked hard and wobbled like a noodle and when Judah backed off the ref should have stepped in and said no no, But Judah kept throwing to get the refs attention and the ref was in awe and let it continue. I praise Zab for his responsibility in looking out for his opponent the ref gets my thumbs down, that charade went on for over 30 seconds and Spinks kept his hands down and threw no punches. The ref was not doing his job as the third man in the ring.

Im glad it was Zab over Mayorga, atleast Zab is a credible boxer. Yeah, Zab is a way more skilled boxer than Mayorga. There is no debating that. I was just pointing out that his chin has never been tested because of his chronic get-out-of-the-way style
