Joking...aside...He was a great fighter....
But he still is a bitch for Quiting...
and great fighters shouldnt quit...!!
Many great fighters have quit, not just Duran. If you think many great fighters don't mentally quit during a fight also, you're deluded. Either way, it was pretty sad but he did more than make up for it by coming back from what would make most fighters run to the nether regions of the world never to be seen again. He did also try to get an immediate rematch which would have been more on his own terms by being able to take a longer period for training etc. Prepare better mentally etc.
If you think him quitting means he has no heart then what does coming back from that and other losses time and time again to win huge fights well above his proper weight and good fighting age when most others would simply be happy to have achieved half of what he did?
:lol1:
Look at the Tape..!!!
:boxing:
That is the HISTORY of Duran right there...

hemocromis...your dead wrong. Duran was a very good boxer. I obviously am not a duran fan, but the man was great. I just dont think he was top 5. Duran was fast, powerful, had great speed, defense....Yes he did do a lot of damage in close, but he could box too.Surely you gest...:D

he was a great boxer.verey under estimated in that category!!:tapedshut
i meant he was not a good classic boxer, he was however great at getting close and hurting his oponent
ferocity,,,where do you get your info from...I was around when Duran fought...and leonard in the olympics..etc...
You all are just as guilty of sound biting and adding words as hilary clinton. I said duran is great. I have always said that. However I do not believe he is a top 5 fighter as those on here who hug durans balls swear he is.
Reasons why, and what durans fans do not point out, is he fought at lightweight one of the all time weakest resume's ever. Look at boxrec and see the average record of the fighters he faces...hmm 13-10, 1-5, 20-10-2...etc... Yes he owned the lightweight division and fought some decent fighters too, but come on be factualy beating those fighter is not like the caliber of fighers say a whitacker beat when he was at 135.
Finally, yes he moved up and barely outpointed Leonard, and beat davey moore. But why do Duran fans stop there, and more importantly say he was past his prime at at 29-31, but go on and review Jones at age 36 when he lost to Tarver etc.. I am not a Jones fan, and I think Mayweather right now is being over rated, but he has moved up much more successfully than Duran has, hmmmm duran was not unbeatable at lightweight..as he did lose to Dejesus and was even dropped twice by him. Mayweather has never lost or been legitimately dropped.... Roy never lost ( or was beaten ) until he was much older, and yes he did fight soome good fighters, young hopkins and Toney and a slew of champions..
So again duran fans get your FACTS straight.
mayweather is a good boxer and certainly would stand a good chance against anyone. however, these 'experts' usually have investments in boxing. it is to their advantage to make a fighter seem more interesting.
now about duran:
he fought people alot bigger than him simply bcause he let himself get 'chunky' he was a natural lightweight and yet was fighting lightheavies at the end of his career and still having some success!
he fought some of the best competition of all time and again these weighed more than him being natural welters, middle or super-middleweights.
he was not a great boxer but he had good skills of getting to the inside, he could hit very hard and take a very hard punch!
hope that helpshe was a great boxer.verey under estimated in that category!!:tapedshut
really he used to fight at
a light weight.supposebly duran is the greatest lightweight ever in history....i belive it.....hes also mike tysons favorite fighter of all time just to let you know......hes the only man to beat leonard in his prime

HE was a great boxer. Very underrated defensively and his fainting and reading of opponents was first class. you don't beat Iran Barkley when your 36 25lbs over our starting weight if your not a great boxer
Mayweather could hang with anyone in boxing history (within his weight or around it) and that's not me saying that. Alot of critics and boxing experts share that. Now about Duran, i never saw him fight but i see him often in everyone's top 10 all time so he has to be a good fighter at least. Things like did he came in the rings much heavier than his opponents (some fighters do that)? Did he fought the best or some of the best competition out there at least in his natural weight? What kinds of skills did he have? Was he all heart or also could box?
These would help one see a better picture.

To include Mayweather in a discussion about Duran is an act of blasphemy. The former could not carry the latter's jock strap, let alone step into the same ring with him, to say nothing about a boxing match.

The only man to ever beat a prime Sugar Ray Leonard, who in my opinion is the G.O.A.T.

Let me tell you why I think your post is funny. It's because your a BIG Tyson fan. Why is this amusing? It's because if you knew a lot about Tyson you'd know that he felt Tommy Hearns was P4P the hardest punching boxer of all time. Tyson said that Hearns possessed the power to KO heavyweights.
So, that's pretty much why Hearns was able to KO Duran. No shame in losing to Hearns.
And, yes, Roberto Duran was really that great. Why? Because he started his pro career at 118 lbs. and ended it at 175lbs. and was competitive with some of the greatest welters and middleweights of all time. Duran wasn't a natural welter or middleweight; but he sure as hell fought like he was.

i cant think of any lightweight who could beat a prime duran, even aaron pryor would have a hard time!
Do you even realize how far past Duran prime was when he fought Pazienza? And he gave a very close fight to Pazienza the first time around. You reallly shouldn't post if you don't know what you're talking about.
Pazienza wasn't great, no matter how you slice it. Good or very good even, but not great.
Duran definately gets props for beating him when he was ancient though.
duran lost to dejesus at 135 so what is your point
Very early in his career, and he avenged that loss twice over.
