Roy Jones Jr should retire. He have had a wonderful career and have brought happines into the heart of fight fans all over the world. Now it is time to stop while he still has all his marbles intact. He is no longer the fighter he used to be. The last couple of fights has proven just that.
JOnes hasent been himself since he beat Ruiz - he may benifit from a year or two layoff and then see how his heart is. Looking at the First Tarver fight it was obvious Jones was drained from the get go - but he sucked it up and pulled off an impressive win - I say impressive because it was the First time Jones had to dig. Second Tarver fight - clean hard shot - thats the way it goes when you are a super fast fighter who has never had to learn conventional fighting because of freakish skills. Those reflexes slip away slowly - but in the boxing game a little slip is big. In the Johnson fight - it wasn't even Jones. I was looking at it thinking about when he fought Bryan Brannon. He came at Jones the same way and Jones kind of leaned back and let the boy shoot for about a min - then he threw some of the fastest 8 and 12 punch combos boxing has ever seen. In the Johnson fight he was not there. I heard he didn't really train - the huricans had just hit his home and things were in chaos - he just didn't come in ready - and hats off to Johnson he did. Thats the danger of being on top - the other guy is ALWAYS going to bring his A game, I guess I should say almost always because there have been those real stinkers who have folded under the presents of Jones (Kelly, Fraisier ect...)
Can Jones ever fight with the heavyweights again?
I believe the only place safe enough for his chin might be at middleweight.Jones is finished as a fighter, unless he move back down to middleweight and beats hopkins down, for some megabucks
Ohh dont get me wrong, I totally realize the power that is possessed at heavyweight, but I still think Roy has better speed than most of them (not the 4 champions, I give Jones not 1 chance at any of the 4 recognized heavyweight champs)
I think even though he has slowed down a tremendous amount it would still be a little bit faster to stay on the outside and box around a lot of the heavyweights...
Im not talking the rahmans and the Byrds or even the Ruiz type fighters.....
At a lower weight, the fighter would keep coming and coming eventually the big guys would tire due to them having to chase down Jones.
I think Jones would beat Brewster, or Ruiz in a rematch.
If Jones fights at heavyweight now he'll get killed. Can you imagin if instead of Tarver landing a straight left it was Sanders? It would have tore Roy's head clean off.
Just like Tyson. Relative nobodies like Danny Williams are gonna gun for Jones just like they did Tyson now, since they know how to fight him. Holyfield and Lewis showed everyone how to fight Tyson, and now Tyson can't even win in a slugfest. Johnson should've been the perfect opponent for Jones. Ridiculous.
Judging on the Johnson fight Jones has not recovered from the Tarver KO. Jones entered the ring a tired man. Like he had not slept for days.
Not wanting to take anything away from Johnson, but Jones did not even tried to move.
I think Jones will not be able to fight the demons of his KO's.
Also people would fight him differently now that his suspectable chin is exposed.
I think Jones is one of the most gifted boxers of recent history, but he should not return to the ring.
He will only be used to sweeten up the records of his opponents.
Jones could still be a champion and can still be great, but he needs the right people around him to motivate him, because greatness is his only motivation right now.
Like they say in pro basketball, basketball coaching is based on convincing multi-millionairs to give it there all with no finacial motivation because they all have guarenteed contracts and are rich before they are free agents.
That is what Jones is right now. His trainer needs to convince a guy with a net worth of about $50 million to risk his life punching other people.
I don't think he is coming back.
No, it's just that my brother believe Hopkins is invincible and can beat any welterweight out there.
You're brother is right, Hopkins does beat any welterweight out their. :D
Hopkins' uses the sugar nickname? I thought he said he was the new Golden boy..
No, it's just that my brother believe Hopkins is invincible and can beat any welterweight out there.
You have to understand that he wasn't getting hit until he got old. He beat every other fighter he faced with his reflexes, including Sugar Bernard Hopkins.
Roy was untouchable at one point, lets not put him down because he lost twice at the end of his career.
175 drained him anymore and im sure will put a hurt on him...He is OLD in the boxing community and you should let your body grow, His best chance would be at cruiser or heavyweight but the in the best interest in EVERYBODY in support of Roy would be to enjoy his commentating role at HBO and promote Andre Ward and his record label.....
Roy aint got shit to prove.
that's very true Roy should just enjoy the fruits of his labor and be safe...
but if ever he will fight again, I want to see him against
Mike Tsyon, who is also old and retired ...
He should lose weight and fight in the lighter ranks. If he still can't compete, then we know. It's hard to put weight on and still be quick. You trade one for the other usuallly.

I agree with those who say Jones, being over 35, should stay retired. He said he has lost the motivation to fight which is why he got KO'd in his last 2 fights. Unless that burning motivation returns, he is unsafe in any of the divisions 160 & above.
I agree with the first post. The heavyweight division would be a good option for Jones ( if he had to choose, i believe he is done too).
He wouldn`tg have to weight drain, which i fought was a factor in his last two fights and he would have a great speed advantage. Also, apart from Klitscko wouldn`t u pick Jones against any heavyweight?
Ruiz, Byrd Mesi? Non are punchers really and can be outboxed.
If he has to come back, i`d prefer heavyweight, he should have stayed there after beating Ruiz anyhow!
im not saying he should, but i think he definitly will, you know they cant quit that easy
I understand what you are saying, It would be in the best interest of Roy to hang them up he is 36 a layoff surely cant do him any good.....Hopefully Roy can go out but somewhere in that fucked up head of his he still rants on saying how he is still the p4p best and STILL CANT BE BEAT!...I think Glen took a few of his marbles and forgot to put the lid on the jar, because Roy is speaking nonsense
spinx u must have had a few drinks tonight...heavyweight is far from the safest place for jones..and im a jones fan...if klitchko landed some punches on jones..it would be very ugly
