I give him 7...he's a good talker and he actually makes us think that he's indeed all time P4P...but compared to legends like Hagler(i give him 9.5), Hopkins is not that great...
8...good boxing skills, but boring as hell...Can't sell a PPV unless the opponent is a superstar...much like Winky...
let see what happens if he fight Tito again... ;)
I like what you said cause I was just about to say the same thing. I'd rather watch Roy jones cause he's exciting, even though i know that hopkins is freaking awesome, i give him a 9
I give him 7.5
I will give him 8 if he beats Tito again,
I will give him 9 if he moves up and beats Tarver/Jones/Johnson.
You do know he's already KO'ed Glen Johnson right?
Did Hopkins fight Toney? I am just curious.
No
Bernard Hopkins win his IBF Middleweight title in 1995 that same year James Toney started fighting at Lightheavyweight.
Hopkins is an average fighter. I never said he ducked a rematch with Toney, I said he wanted nothing to do with Toney when Toney was at 168. Hopkins would've been a heavy favorite over all those fighters? Coulda Shoulda Woulda I guess. I'm not going to give this guy credit for beating cops and cab drivers. Ray Robinson, Marvin Hagler, and Carlos Monzon would murder him. You know, Felix Sturm was impressive against Cherifi, but I'm not going to say Sturm is a p4p fighter. I'm just not going to say he's a great middleweight until he fights another great middleweight. Alot of people said Shane Mosley was the p4p best, that was until he got some opposition from Forrest, and we all saw what happened. Until Hopkins proves himself, I don't think highly of him.
Are you fucking high?
Hopkins is an "average fighter". Just stop watching boxing right now.
Your time line is so fucked up its not even funny.
He didn't want to fight Toney when he was at 168?
Hopkins won his tilte in 1995 the same year James Toney moved up to 175.
You wont consider him great until he fights another great middleweight huh. Want to tell me who were the great middleweights Marvin Hagler fought? Thats right he fought some tough guys but no one great who was a natural 160lber Hagler's two biggest fights on his career came against Leonard and Hearns. Are you also gonna dog Hagler for not fighting Spinks? cause that fight was there to be made?
Hopkins has fought some good guys, but you just a shameless hater. Tito Trinidad, DLH, Echols2x, Holmes, Joppy, Allen and Glen Johnson who is now the Undisputed Light Heavyweight Champion of the World.
just stop it makes you sound foolish

Im sorry but your wrong. This is boxing you dont rule your division for a decade, make 20 title defense and unify all 4 major belts by being "Lucky"
He's as technically as sound as any fighter I have ever seen. He has a great chin, He can fight for foward, going backwards, He can box from the outside just as good as he can fight on the inside.
You want to get dirty he's more than comfortable doing that.
You have to rank him top 5 all time at 160 one of the greatest divisions in the history of the sport.
He may not have fought in the greatest era, but he did fight some good guys. I think its funny people still harp on Felix Trinidad being a Welterweight. Trinidad has had 4 fights at 160 and has looked AMAZING in 3 of them. I'll tell you who doesn't think Tito is small and thats William Joppy and Hassine Cheriffi two legit top 5 guys at 160 when those fights happen.
The second fight with Roy Jones came along because the contract was a joke. It was not just 60/40. It was that Roy wanted everything to come out of Hopkins end aswell. It also had to do with the rematch clause Roy Jones wanted. It stated that if Bernard Hopkins had won the second fight he would recieve no more than 40% for the 3rd fight. Now thats a flat out joke.
He never ducked a rematch with James Toney becuase he never fought him to begin with. Now im sorry, but if you really believe James Toney was going to come down from 190 for that fight you really need to stop buying into internet hype.
Bernard Hopkins would be a heavy favorite over all the guys you listed. No one in the history of boxing "Destroys" Bernard Hopkins he's too good.
Hate him or not Hopkins has all the tools inside the ring.

career wise you have to say he's an eight, he will go down in the history books, but in years to come I don't think he will be considered in the rarified atmosphere that the boxing gods share e.g Ali, Louis, Ray Robinson etc.

Another fine post from Jose!
Anybody that blames Nard for there not being a rematch with Roid just needs to get a "Nuthugger" tattoo on their forehead. When Roy didn't want to fight, he made outlandish demands. It was his M.O. He even did it in the negotiations with Ruiz. I used to have an avatar that depicted Roy as a mafia Don called the "Royfather".....the caption read, "I'll make him an offer he can't accept."
Bernard would have destroyed Jones in a rematch! Is there anybody here dumb enough to put the two guys that knocked Roid the fuk out in the same class with BERNARD HOPKINS??
Never mind...that was rhetorical.
There are a couple JUST that stupid! :p
i give hopkins a 9 3/4!!!! when you have to fight the politics of boxing, as well as negotiate your contract, and fight your opponent in the ring.and then stay focused enough to win all those fights within the last 11 going on 12 years.... he deserves no less then a 9. plus staying in shape, out of the ring and staying disciplined the whole time. thats good shit right there. not to forget that he is a student of the game, he is a boxing fan. he knows what is going on with boxing, and with his trainer they come up with sick ass fight plans.
the man has many different gears and knows when to shift.
he does have 2 losses,so,he can't get a 10, but no one should if they have a loss........
I gotta go with a 9 for Hopkins. I also remember so many people talking about Trinidad was gonna KO Hopkins, but when the opposite happens its because Trinidad isn't a true middleweight.
Very true, great point. Hopkins biggest wins were against blown up welters. Trinidad should have been a light middle, he was too small for Hop and De La Hoya......???well, Oscar did fight better than Trinidad did, i think he just had a beat more want and will for it!
Jose
IMO Roy beats them all, Benn, G-man and Eubanks. But then again that's why fights are fought. Your a little harsh on Roy, the guy was great no doubt, such a great athlete.
Hopkins is a great fighter but never beat anybody great that was a true Middleweight.. The title defenses shows that he was no pushover. However, Hopkins never has moved up in weight to seek a challege, a serious threat. Something that Roy has done.
