So....last night, around 6:30, I sit down to eat dinner. I start flicking through the channels. I land on Showtime, & there's Steve Albert.
He's talking about the "year in review". I'm pretty excited by my dumb luck, & look forward to enjoying the program.
They start with their "fighter of the year" category....& I'm excited. I figure, Diego Corrales, who's two excellent victories took place on Showtime, would win easily. Then, I see ACELINO FREITAS is a nominee. I'm thinking, "What the fuck ? He was beaten, he QUIT !"
I realized....this LAME-ASS network....was showing the awards of 2003 !
Stupid.
Showtime's boxing has been growing on me as of late, their fights have been getting better and they got the Spinks-Judah rematch in Febuary on the basic card not PPV like HBO would do. I like the fact that they don't give guys like Mayweather and Gatti huge contracts and gie them occasional cupcake opponets, they go by the motto "great fights, no rights" and give us a nice card every month.
The real network of Idiots is Fox Sports Net, I would like to see the Jirov-Moore fight live tonight but their showing Cincinnati a F*cking Columbus Blue Jackets hockey rerun- WTF the deal with that

Take it easy Mr. Jabs.
I hate showtime for the simple fact that they need better roster of fighters on their network. Get rid of shobox please.
ShoBox has a lot of good talent. I know HBO's watching, because a lot of guys from ShoBox have ended up on HBO cards not long after...
Showtime is like a second rate airline with crackhead stewardesses and pilots afraid of heights and shit. HBO is like Delta, but at the end of the day, they both get you home, right?
I was watching Corrales-Freitas, and before the fight Nick "I love my own Voice" Charles said Corrales had a glass chin. Then midway through the fight he said Corrales had a granite chin. The only guys on Showtime who I really liked were Ferdie Pacheco and Bobby Czyz, and both are gone.

Showtime had at least 3 shady fights this year, let's review them shall we:
- Acelino Freitas gets up from a knockdown, clearly looks over at the round clock in the arena, and QUITS 6 seconds before the "over" in the over/under bet goes through. SHADY!
- Brewster and Meehan basically carry each other for 12 full rounds, and right before the decision is announced, which took about 5 minutes to tabulate, Don King goes up to Meehan's crew and says in his infamous tone "Good Show!", which in DKP language means "if this fight weren't fixed you'd get the decision, but it ain't that kinda party, so good luck next time vs. Rahman!" SHADY!
- Did you really think Top Rank would lose 2 big decisions in 8 days? No matter how hard Casamayor fought, he had no chance vs. Castillo following Morales' loss the week before. Politics people, it's the name of the game!
Do you guys have any others on Showtime this yer that come to mind? Let me know! - SacTown1
Why would you rip on a network that actually covers and supports the sport of boxing. Yeah, their second rate compared to HBO but at least they cover a dying sport.
Be grateful.
I was not being serious.....semi-serious.
Anyway, I'm ripping a network that shows boxing, to people who will watch WHATEVER boxing they can. So, where's the harm ?
Maybe we fight fans need to raise our standards a bit ?
I thought it was goofy as hell to show an awards show, in DECEMBER.....that was from the previous year.

They often replay older fights, too. I like it. I can watch a Hatton or Tszyu fight from a year or two back on one of their channels.
Plus, they've already advertised that the 2004 show is Jan. 8.

ah... come on... take it easy
Showtime for the most part is bush league compared to HBO, however I give them a lot of credit with there last couple of triple header cards, last saturday was an excellent card, I wish HBO would do triple headers.
