i dont think i would watch, there is always a risk associated with boxing and thats why people get paid as much as they do, if not more people would do it.

The question is moot because headgear doesn't prevent concussions and therefore is not an effective safeguard against brain damage or death. A concussion occurs when your head is jarred back from the force of a blow, causing your brain to shift within your skull. Repeated concussions are what cause brain damage and most deaths in boxing. A layer of padding around your head and chin does not protect your head from being snapped back; it just shields you from getting cut. If you wanted to really cut down on brain damage and death in boxing, you'd need to completeley illegalize headshots.

Well, I would probably still watch it, but I don't think it would really be boxing anymore. Perhaps if it was given a different name so it would be clear that it is separate from boxing. The headgear just takes away from the prestige, it's just not the same.

IF (I would hate to see this rule as it may only damage the sport)headgear did come into regulation for boxers, I think it should only be worn by boxers with 10 or less pro fights or possibly those ranked 20 or less. I know boxers can die no matter what the situation, but to if(and I mean only if) headgear were to be a rule, I think top twenty ranked boxers or those with over 10 pro fights should be exempt due to their experience. I believe in no way should a title fight or even a fight between two top ten contenders take place with the fighters wearing headgear. The fighters SHOULD(and I emphasize SHOULD because there is always possiblility of a death in the ring) have the experience to not(as should the refs to not allow a fighter)get beaten unmercifully.

Sad to hear about the fatal bout. Boxing fans for a longtime are used to proboxers without headgear, thats what seperate pros from amateurs. Also, seeing the fighters face, adds more effect to the attraction. Like, who would know what Mike tyson really looked like, if he wore headgear all his life.

I don't think i would whatch boxing if the fighters wore headgear, i don't like the new olympic gloves which twists the hands so it's harder to get a knockout either. Boxing shouldn't be changed to becme softer, then it wouldn't be boxing. Some guys don't belong in boxing. If boxing is such a danger then only those who can take it should become boxers. Meza would have turned 27 on December 24. Would you watch boxing if they wore modified headgear. Nothing protecting the face or chin, just something to cushion the blows to the head??? I would watch boxing if they had headgear. I dont' watch boxing just for the knockouts, I wanna see the skills too. I agree that they should have a modified headgear that surrounds just the head. This also helps protect their head from the canvass if they get knocked down.

Gerald McClellan was one of my favorite fighters, and I've got all of the respect in the world for him and his abilities in the ring, and when Nigel Benn put him in a coma with excessive rabbit punching, I didn't blame Benn for one second, nor did I lose interest in the sport. It's a blood sport, you're absolutely right. But Gerald is where he is today because he did what he loved doing, which was boxing against the best competition in the world. So yes, I still love the KO, I love seeing guys get "stretched" as Prince Naseem used to say, and if there are fatalities along the way, so be it. Kids get killed every day crossing the street, does that mean we shouldn't give them shoes or let them go outside?Good point!!

Would you watch professional boxing if the fighters wore headgear? Boxing isn't a soft sport, it's the most physically intense competition on the planet, these guys get paid millions to get knocked in the head, possible fatalities are a part of what comes with those millions, these guys choose to box, nobody forces them to do it, so if they can't take the heat then they gotta get their a$$ outta the kitchen. I don't see Ali or Frazier complaining about their post-boxing injuries. Those injuries made them LEGENDS. Would we be kissing the ground Ali walks on if he were still speaking fluently? HECK NO, we'd be criticizing him for being a selfish egotistical maniac. But now that he's got pugilistic dimentia (on top of Parkinson's), he's a world-renowned hero. And it's because of his injuries, and what he sacrificed in the ring, and his current condition, that has made him a legend. So to answer your question, if pro boxers wore headgear, we wouldn't have legends to look up to.
