I think Oscar's loss to Hopkins was a drama. Why?
1. I think Oscar knew all along that he can't win against Hopkins and only did that fight to have huge revenue for Golden Boy promotions coz when he fights almost everybody watch even celebrities.
2. Oscar can still come back during that KD and for me it wasn't a very solid shot given by Hopkins. I'm not that convinced when he didn't try to get up and instead made a drama of stamping the floor out of frustration???? (MAYBE).
3. The camera didn't give a good angle of that body shot even on the replay.
4. Oscar dela Hoya didn't mind losing to Hopkins as long as business is going smoothly. He even made Hopkins as his new business partner. ;)
Oscar dela Hoya is a smart boxer and at the same time a smart businessman. :D

once again, heres the best clip of the ko. made these points before but eh, look at the punch dent oscars body. it definately hits something. then look at oscar drop his guard immediately, thats not acting the shot hit its mark and thats how boxers react when hit with a body shot that finds its target. then watch him crumple.
ive said it b4 and ill say it again
it wasnt the conventional body shot
didnt look like the kind that knocks the wind outta ya
just one painful ass shot
all we heard leaden up to this fight was hopkins is too big n strong
then he proves it
and he took a dive
hopkins showed he was so much stronger that he didnt even have to land a "clean" as in beautiful shot
he just needed to make contact
hopkins didnt have to hit him with his hardest shot
just hard enough to hurt him for 10secs
"That's because they wanted it to look genuinely. The only thing that bothers me is that Oscar as a fighter of that caliber didn't even tried to get up. It's a big question for me. Even if he was hit that "hard?". I mean he got good training. That fight would remain unquestionable for me. Look at Tito vs. Mayorga... Even how many punches Mayorga took... he did try getting up and I don't think Hopkins and Tito has a big gap on power punching."
To be real, though, I don't think the Tito punch and Hopkins punch can be compared. I just don't think that Oscar could take a beat down like Ricardo was against Tito. C'mon, be real, does anyone think that Oscar could all those power shots and make it to the 9th????? I can't see it. That's why I can't compare the two. Could Oscar probably get up from the punch? It's possible that he could have, but he just would've ended up gettin beat up. He was already starting to get roughed up, he had no power, Hopkins was findin it easier and easier and easier to hit him. The best thing that Oscar had on his side was fan support which might have done somethin shady for him on the score cards like what happened against Sturm when. So, I don't understand what the deal is. Either way is a loss, get hurt and don't get up.....or get hurt, get up and get hurt some more.
Oscar is a smart business man. He took a shot at Hopkins and failed. No damage done to his legacy. It is all about the glory for Oscar. As far as Mosley goes, when it's all said and done, Mosley will be an afterthought. Nobody will talk of him. We will hear DLH name for many years to come..fair or not, that is the way it is.

I've always thought the knockout was legit, but you really do have to start considering there may have been a little conspereicy going on that night.
It ain't a bad deal for both sides--Bernard lets DLH look pretty good for most of the fight and Hop sees some action in Golden Boy Promotions, or whatever it is they are doing together.
hopkins is a machine in there. if you watch his fights from about 97 on (the ones that dont end quick) theres always a point where he figures out his opponent completely and begins to swagger alittle bit, landing at will on a battered foe. really a thing of beauty lol :D
Oscar played right into Hopkins hands in that fight. Sure he won about three rounds in the fight but that doesn't mean he had a chance during the fight. I thought Oscar had a slim chance before the fight using his movement but Hopkins took his movement away by waiting and making Oscar come to him. It was obvious to me after about the second round what they were doing and Bouie Fischer confirmed it when he told Hopkins in the corner that "He's starting to come now" and then told him to start sticking the jab more. As far as the bodyshot I'm going to give Oscar credit and say that it was legitimate. It didn't land solid but a bodyshot doesn't have to land solid to be effective.
imo, the knockdown is legit. just studying a clip of the ko in slow mo leads me to believe that. the only thing that could be in question in my mind is if oscar couldve got up or not. hopkins was starting to get the "hopkins swagger". when he knows he totally has his opponent defeated mentally and physically, he'll let his hands go a bit more and drop his guard not fearing his opponent, and just slowly punishing and embarrassing them. oscar was getting into that faze of the fight. id like to believe for 30+ million and the heart that hes shown in other fights that he could not get up.
I can't accept you talking about one of the best middleweight fights in history like that. I disagree, it was a very good fight, regardless of what you or jabsRstiff think..
I respect Hopkins as the best middleweight in the world. I'm a hopkins and dela Hoya fan. You just think differently. But that FIGHT??? Cmon you don't have to be a genius to notice that. It was a drama fight to me. But you have your own opinion so that wouldn't be a problem, i totally respect that.
Maybe, he thought he already accomplished that glory and time to accomplished more money. :D :D Oscar vs. Hopkins was a crap.

I remember the Shane Mosley quote where he said the Money isn't the issue for him, it's all about the glory, and how money comes and goes, but a legacy last forever. I guess Oscar see's things the exact opposite..
