Maybe if Roy changed his trainer to Emanuel Steward or Joe Goosen, they could try to fix some of his defensive flaws. I think the style Roy fights with is suited for people in there 20's. If he could change his style of fighting and keep his hands up maybe he could regain the glory of his past.
What do you think of this idea? should Roy change his trainer?

jones is at the point where he can retire a legacy who up until now didnt let himself box until he was braindead but if he continues he will end up just like ali.
he doesn't need to change his style.......he needs to quit.........he has been there and done that, and been there and done that........
he should get into coaching.......
The thing i loved about Roy was that his style was individual and natural to him. Roy has always fought his own way and nobody elses way, his trainers could never get him to change how he fights because that is how is has been comfortable over the years and his record speaks for itself in that department. Once a style and a certain way of fighting is grounded into a fighters mind it's hard to learn any different.
that is really beautiful Wez. There's an old saying that "things can only be what they are". Roy can't change his style, it's the only way he knows how to fight. i see stuff like this all the time, a boxer will get a new trainer, new trainer will try to make boxer into a different natural style than he is, it might work for a while when there;s no pressure, but i guarantee when the shit goes down he will go back to his natural style. If RJJ tries to use another style he'll get KTFO'd again and again, because he'll have to hestiate, think about what he's doing, instead of doing what comes natural. Stay home Roy, raise prize roosters, make rap records about Fat Joe leaning back, and work for HBO sitting next to BIg Geogre Foreman and the drunk Larry Merchant. Don't let pride make you another Holyfield
well, his legs aren't what they used to be and his motivation are gone. in his last fight, it seems that his punches are still quick and he still has nice combinations. i think he will return in 2005 for one last match or two. possibly one tune up bout then a bout against the winner of tarver-johnson?
You might be on to something there. If you've already been at the top, and been the best, what's the point in keeping on at it? More money? I think Roy probably has enough money, even with Ivan wiping out all his roosters again.
After watching Roy's last two fight I don't think he is completley shot, he just needs to make some adjustments. At 35 I think it would be better if he moved more and kept both his hands up.
This is just plain nonsense.
If RJ could "move more", he would, but, he can't. His 35-year old legs are gone and that means he gets caught. Even with his "hands up" he can't be saved from his soft chin.
I believe, that the Roy will return!
At him psychologically problems, instead of physical.
Therefore as soon as he will be ready to win, nobody will stand on his way...
Poor Roy, he said he might even come back at 45 if the hunger returns. He talks about Holyfield in that he should retire, but here he is being a damn hypocrit(sp?).
all he needs to do is go down in wait and he will be fine
ur dumb!! he can't go down!! he has too much muscle and is too big for super middle. he will be weak and dehydrated at 168. he is over with!!
by the way, tito is the man!!!
I agree that he has lost alot of his speed and reflexes but I think he has a little bit of fight left in him that he could possibly come back after a few changes in his fight plan and style.
What makes you think he's not shot?
I didn't see ANY evidence of him being REMOTELY able to do the stuff he used to, and his chin and punch resistance are GONE (if they weren't there before).
