I have just watched the fight with Juan Diaz defending the WBA title. Diaz is an intelligent person and fighter, a college student, and already a World Champion at just 21!
I have really enjoyed watching this match and his previous matches, and look forward to many more of his fights.
This was a very good fight. I think Teddy Atlas was giving Lorcey more credit than he did Diaz for some reason. I had it 118-110. There were close rounds for the first 2:30 but I thought Diaz pulled the rounds out in the end.
I had it 117-111 for Diaz but may have given Lorcy a "pity round" or two .....while Juan looked great I've seen him look much better and seriously think he had an 'off' night, so to speak. I've just seen him fight so many times and he looked sharper. I think it's fantastic that he's in law school, and he's always broght a touch of class to the sport. And it's also nice that people are finally letting go of the 'crying' episode he had in the past and was teased terribly for! ;)
nope sprry buddy
but thats my opinion too!
lmao
i missed the fight
how did it end
where there any knockdowns
did juans power show up?
cuz he supposdly has power
but didnt seem like it in his last fight becuz of Lavkas supposed grantie chin
Juan Diaz has never had power. Not even back when he was fighting six/eight rounders on Showtime was he showing any power.
He throws punches that LOOK like they should be hard, but they just aren't.
he's excellent but i think julio is better JMO

His defense does need to improve more but while Teddy Atlas was trying to compliment Lorcey's defense at the same time Diaz was blocking and slipping alot of Lorcey's punches. It wasn't really until the later rounds that Lorcey was really hitting Diaz alot but Lorcey was getting hit more than Diaz was.
The babybull wasn't as impressive as he was against Lakva Sim but he was still impressive. he is one exciting fighter.
I saw Lorcy for first time and man this guy was tough. he was just as tough as Lakva but more mobile. he did show his vast experience...getting out of trouble rather easily many times.
Diaz said after the fight that his jab was the difference. I disagree. I think he should've used even more jab or just get his *** plastered on Lorcy's body to take away Lorcy's jab (which was very effective).
Diaz also needs to improve his defense IMO. He was hit with too many unnecessary punches...that may not be a smart strategy if he is to fight people like Corrales...
but I am already looking forward to Diaz vs. Corrales fight!
The kid is a really good fighter, but his complete lack of power is going to keep him from being one of the best in the world.
He's not a slickster....he's a volume puncher....with good speed.
He's gonna find himself getting caught during an exchange against a better, tougher, harder-hitting foe.
His lack of power forces him to throw & throw & throw....which increases his foes' opportunities.
That lack of pop also lets his foes hang in through fights they should be completely out of....
The kid would be knocked out by Castillo or Corrales.
I like this kid, impressive win...now I look forward to see him facing off with Julio. There can be only one Diaz! :D I also enjoyed watching his 1st world championship fight with Lakva Sim.
Juan Diaz is good, but will never be at the top because he doesn't have much pop behind his punches. He just needs to not rush in to it with fighters the caliber of Julio.
He needs to be a little more effective with his punches it seemed to me. And his conditioning ( and the way his body looked) actually seemed not as good as last time when he fought lakva sim. And his body definitely looked like it could loose a few pounds then.
yes i think a julio diaz fight would be very entertaining, juan would probably be the underdog however so maybe he wants to avoid that match in the immediate future

yeah i watched that fight too. he seems to be heading in the right direction in and outside the ring. he seems to be as good of person as he is a boxer. its refreshing to see that and whats also so good about his is that he is so young. i hope to see him for many more years to come.
Yeah for only being 21 his poise in the ring is great, he has hung in there and outworked two hard nosed guys in a row.
I'd like to see him go against Julio Diaz in the future
