I hear some people on here who like to hate on DLH. Tino likes to say he was "protected early in his career" and some others say he has avoided fights in the past few years.
Im asking all of you haters to come out and me who he was protected from and who he has avoided?
135
Ruelas
Hernandez
Leija
Molina
140
Gonzales
Chavez
147
Whitiker
Quartey
Trinidad
Mosley
154
Vargas
Mosley
160
Bernard Hopkins
Now lets look at this.
Bernard Hopkins, Felix Trinidad, Ike Quartey, Shane Mosley, Pernell Whitiker were ALL rated among the top ten p4p in the sport at that time.
Gonzlaes was undeafeated and had made 10 defenses of his WBC Lightweight going into that fight.
Hernandez was undeafeated and had made 8 defenses of his WBA title going into his fight with DLH
Rafeal Ruelas was 43-1 and was the IBF champion going into this fight.
Tino likes to say he was protected early in his career, but by the time he had 20 pro fights DLH had already fought Jon Jon Molina, Rafeal Ruelas and Genaro Hernandez.
Some try and say he has avoided fights in the past few years, but when you ask them to name the fighters he's avoided they comeback with nothing.
Lets look at a few of these guys he "avoided"
Wink Wright- Up until Shane Mosley he had done NOTHING to even deserve a fight with DLH. Wright had a reputation for doing just enought to lose. Wright had lost all 3 times he had stepped up in competion before Mosley. Losses to Harry Simon, Julio Cesar Vasquez and Fernando Vargas.
Antonio Mrgarito- People who claim DLH ducked him are just making themselves look flat out foolish. Margarito didn't even come onto the scene until he beat Andrew Lewis in 2003, but by 2003 DLH was already fighting at 154. Hell DLH had moved up to 154 in 2001. So please explain to me how DLH ducked him?
Ricardo Mayorga- Again didn't even come onto the scene until he beat Vernon Forrest in 2003, DLH was already up at 154, Mayorga was quckly exposed by Spinks in his next fight.
So please haters come on and try and tell what is wrong with his resume.
I'm not taken one way or the other on De La Hoya, but you have to respect the guy, he isn't afraid of anybody and has the ability to beat 99% of boxers out there at four weight divisions above his starting weight. What I found interesting in the Hopkins fight was that if Oscar had managed to hold on for the full 12 I think he would have got the decision. For me up to 9 he outboxed Hopkins and was probably ahead on the card. Of course none of this matters because he couldn't beat the count but interesting none the less that he outboxed nard.
Jose dont forget he fought Arturo Gatti another great fighter
I agree Oscar is a great fighter I have always said it but ThaGreatest I wouldn't call Arturo Gatti a great fighter. An exciting fighter, yes but not a great fighter. You all know my feeling on the Trinidad fight. Even though I thought Oscar won a close fight I feel he gave the fight away in the judges eyes by running away when he thought he had the fight won. As far as the the rematch with Mosley it was close and I can see how a person could of had Mosley winning. From what I have read and heard the media was split on that decision and there were more than a few people in attendence who thought Mosley won and cheered the decision.
No he did not skip Tszyu. Tszyu and DLH had a fight lined up and Tszyu lost to Phillips.
Im sorry did you just try and say DLH avoided Grigorian?
my bad youre right with tzyu .
DLH skipped grigorian , who was an undefeated lightweight at the time .
after the fight with charpentier , he said that he was "ready to take on anybody NOW"
makes me think he skipped MORRAD HAKKAR @ 160.
yo , jose , i said i had mad respect for DLH for all his accomplishements , too.
yeah his 135 and 140 bodycount his impressive , but remember that he was allowed to weigh in 2 DAYS before the fight at 130 , where he fought hernandez and ruelas , not 135. he skipped tzyu and grigorian.
i like DLH a lot , im no hater at all. he is a great fighter , and a gave me good and sometime great boxing thrill.

oscar beat mosley twice and trinidad
but i'd have to say he lost to sturm even though i love oscar more then anyone
i have to say he only lost is 2 last fights
Jose dont forget he fought Arturo Gatti another great fighter
lol Gatti had no chance. Mismatch from the beginning. He was expected to kill the smaller, less technically sound Gatti.

A great fighter. To say he got a 'gift' against Quartey and didn't beat Trinidad is ridiculous. He took on all comers. People need to get off the fact that he's good looking and isn't a trash talker. He made a career out of beating up trash talkers . . . (Tito, Vargas etc.)
I don't argue that DLH fought everyone who stood in front of him, but he was definitely handed some decisions along the way, including Sweetpea, Quartey and Sturm. Richard Steele deducted points without warnings from Oba Carr an put him in the position where he had to forego defense, which was his greatest weapon.
I think he won against Tito and Mosely II, but I always looked at that as Karma biting him in the ass.
I think the best thing that Sturm did in the fight against DLH wasn't constantly pounding him with the telephone pole jab of his, it was dancing away in the last few seconds of the round so DLH couldn't showcase the little pit-a-pat "punching" flurries that stole so many rounds for him throughout his career. That was masterful ring generalship on Sturm's part. Kudos to his corner for telling him to do that.
ya
oscar beat mosley twice and trinidad
but i'd have to say he lost to sturm even though i love oscar more then anyone
i have to say he only lost is 2 last fights

you gotta admit that he beat Trinidad and won the second Mosely bout. No matter what is official, we all "know" who won those two fights.
you are correct sirr
i have no problem givin mosley the 1st fight
it was a very close one
but i do think that mosley did enough to pull out the win
With trinidad
yes he gave away the last 3 rounds
but i think he had a solid enough early lead
With sturm same thing
i had him building a nice lead and the last championship rounds were close where i had him pullin them out based on combinations
you gotta admit that he beat Trinidad and won the second Mosely bout. No matter what is official, we all "know" who won those two fights.
He didn't win cuz he ran, that's why he LOST. Second Mosely fight was arguable. Sturm was a contraversey. You see where I'm going..
couldn't win when it mattered
you gotta admit that he beat Trinidad and won the second Mosely bout. No matter what is official, we all "know" who won those two fights.
