A little fantasy fun. I have always believed the fighters of this era were some of the toughest bastards ever! Many of the greats used to fight every 2 weeks..against other greats! So here goes:
Sandy Saddler vs Erik Morales...Tough fight. Many brutal exchanges but ultimately Saddler too much for Morales.
Ike williams vs Pernell Whittaker...For those who don't know Ike Williams, he was Lightweight king for 6 years in the 40's beating Bob Montgomery, Sammy Angott, and Beau Jack. He also took on Basilio and Kid Gavilan losing close dec.'s in 10 rounders. My pick would be Whittaker. To me, he was one of the greatest LW's ever and would have won a dec.
Ray Robinson vs Felix Trinidad...Wow! This one is a match truly made in heaven. My pick has to go to Ray Robinson based on his masterboxing abilities. Would've been a carbon-copy of the Tito/Hopkins fight except Robinson had more power than Hopkins and would've ko'd him sooner.
Ray Robinson vs Bernard Hopkins...Another dream match! And another vote for Robinson albeit a very close, maybe even split decision.
Archie Moore vs Roy Jones Jr.....Would Jones have boxed Moore's head in? Or would the Ole Mongoose have caught the cocky one with one of patented left hooks?
Rocky Marciano vs Evander Holyfield...Hell...I don't know? But I sure would have loved to seen it!
Williams SD Whitaker-have ya'll seen a prime Ike Williams?? The guy was a monster, and fast as hell to boot.
Geez, no kidding.
With Ike Williams at his best, no lightweight in history has an "easy" night, nor would they "box circles" around him. He's a tough fight for any fighter whose ever fought at 135, and that includes everyone (Duran, Armstrong, Leonard, Gans, Canzoneri, Ross, and yes, even Pernell Whitaker).
For those who haven't seen him, imagine a fighter whose somewhat similiar to a prime Thomas Hearns in style (though more aggressive and definately a lot tougher), as he uncoils and then throws quick and devastating combinations to both the head and body, and you'll have some kind of picture of what Ike Williams fought like in his prime.
And then take into account the fact that Whitaker was known to have problems with fighters who had a definate reach advantage over him (which Williams would have), and what do you get?
I see a late rounds, knockout victory for Ike Williams in this matchup.
P.S. For those who want to see what Ike Williams was capable of, I'd recommend getting a copy of his first fight with Beau Jack. I'll guarantee you'll be very impressed with what you see from him.
Williams SD Whitaker-have ya'll seen a prime Ike Williams?? The guy was a monster, and fast as hell to boot.
Saddler late TKO Morales-Great fight
Robinson destroys Trinidad . . . pick a round
Hopkins-Robinson-Hopkins edges out a decision in the first fight, Ray gets his revenge in the rematch
Jones Jr vs Moore- Prime for prime Archie stops Jones in the 10th in a fight in which he's badly behind
Marciano late TKO Holyfield-Holyfield leaves himself way too open for Marciano. Marciano was not as slow and crude as people are alleging, and his body work and short hooks on the inside would prove the difference. Holyfield barely gets by Qawi but would school Marciano?? I don't think so. Another great fight though and Holyfield if he chooses to box more then trade he has a fair chance.
fighters from the 40s and 50s were tuff..but they didnt have much skill or power
WHAAT??? what bullshit is that, that means Sugar ray Robinson didn't have much skill or power, or Archie Moore who has the most knockouts of any fighter in history didn't have any skill or power. BULLSHIT!!!! The fighters of today are pussies compared to the old guys, an old timer like Harry Greb would KTFO the heavyweight bums of today
Saddler stops Morales.
I don't really know much about Ike Williams so I can't call that one.
Robinson stops Tito. Too much for Tito.
Robinson stops Hopkins. Robinson was still good enough at middleweight to beat Hopkins.
Moore beats Roy maybe stops him late.
Holyfield/Marciano would be a damn good fight that I could see go either way.
Explain how Robinson stops Hop but UD's Tito? I dunno it just doesn't make much sense. Are you basing this on styles or something?
Hopkins depended on being the better boxer to beat Tito. Hopkins is not the better boxer when it comes to Robinson. Tito at welterweight was obsessed with his power, so would get caught following Robinson around. At middleweight, he uses his boxing skills more, but still wouldn't be able to beat Robinson.

Saddler beats Morales in a good fight.
Whitiker wins and easy UD.
Robinson destroyes Tito KO 3
Hopkins beats Robinson on points. Robinson was at his best at Welter not Middleweight.
Roy Jones ducks Moore, the fight never happens
Holyfield would be too fast for Marciano. Holyfield UD
Sandy Saddler vs Erik Morales- Saddler stops Morales in the tenth, Saddler's straight right would find the mark too often. But a wild card would be the technical decision rule, which wasn't around when Saddler was in his hey day. The early rounds would be crucial then.
Ike Williams vs Pernell Whitaker- Pernell Whitaker in his prime would box circles around the predictable Williams, but then Ike's brain trust would shoot Sweet Pea after the fight for late drug money.
Ray Robinson vs Felix Trinidad- Robinson stops Trinidad in the 8th round, if at welterweight. At middleweight, Robinson grabs a unanimous decision.
Ray Robinson vs Bernard Hopkins- Robinson stops Hopkins in 10.
Archie Moore vs Roy Jones Jr- Moore catches Jones on the ropes with his brilliant straight right and puts him out cold in 6.
Rocky Marciano vs Evander Holyfield- Holyfield takes a unanimous decision and outboxes the crude italian.
