Rocky for sure... but when a fighter retires on top you always "wonder" how much further he could have gone.
What if Rocky came back to fight Patterson who was calling him out?
50-0?
It kinda sucks that we'll never know.
lewis anyone? Tito was one, but good thing he came back.
Tito came back at the perfect time, someone needed to bring up some fresh challenge in a division that's been dominated for a long time by Hopkins..Having said that...if Tito wins against Hopkins in a future fight, wouldn't that be a perfect time to retire ???
I think nobody went out better than Marvin Hagler.
He lost a fight that many thought he won. he had always railed against the "system" in boxing, & the "goodbye, fuck you" he gave to the system, has really added to his aura.
We never saw him hurt, or truly beaten. He never came back.
tikal you are totally correct about Marciano the best model for this thread retiring unbeaten (49-0) and undisputed heavy weight champion of the world....
lennox lewis retired as champ, he knows he had to do that because his best days were behind him, that klitorous got close to beating him so he knew it was time to hang up his gloves, and for that he gets my respect
i believe that if holyfield wins a title, he will think he has also retired at his best lol
Yeah... always nice to retire still wearing your belt :)
Good decision on the Brit's part..
