Body shots are a very important part of a boxers arsenal. Not quite as important as a good jab though.
Yep. everything works of the Jab. Hell, for guys like Lewis and Holmes, it was their bread and butter. Working off the jab is what boxing is all about. The jab is so important I dont know where to begin in describing what all it accomplishes.
relentless
what is that karma you gave me?
its like dark blue or gray??? it doesnt look like the positive ones or the negative ones
is this some kind of sick joke? lol
btw thanks thaz ill hit you up later
Kill the body and the head will follow. cant remember who said it...ahh it doesn't matter. Going to the body works, and I think more and more fighters are going to start training more on the body attack.
First De La Hoya, now Mayorga. It's becoming more and more apparent how important shots to the body are in boxing. Just thought i'd throw that out.
Body shots have always been important. Chavez made a career out of going to the body
Fighters have been saying it for quite a while, body shots hurt more than head shots. They takes your opponent's breath away and inflict sustained pain. However, the most dangerous shot is probably to the temple.
I know alot of ppl here hate this kid, but Ricky Hatton is a monster to the body!
I dont like him (dont hate him exactly) but I'll give him that; he's brutal on the body! That's just a fact ;)
So true. I have a lot of respect for the great mexican warriors who concentrated on breaking down your body before working upstairs. Chavez worked upstairs and down but he would punish the body first. DLH and lower weights also worked well to the body.
Knowing how to effectively punch to the body is so vital. Headhunters are more exciting but I'd rather watch someone break their fighter down before ultimately finishing them off.
Absolutely! You can always tell when a fighter has 'lost' his leg's, not long after that if you land just right they're OUT!!
Oh yeah, that liver shot of Ward's is a killer; Gatti can swear to that. I've heard repeatedly thorough the yr's. that breaking down (working) the body is of major importance. I also hear that all these amateurs are at a hugh disadvantage when they first turn pro. and ALL BUT have to be re-trained, cause body shot's are not scored in the amateurs.
If you cant get a guy to go down, take his leg's from him. RIGHT? You can only do that with body shot's so I'm always impressed with the one's that 'love that body', so to speak, and dont always 'head hunt'...just my opinion. :)

there are two punches i want to be able to throw, but have been too lazy to go to a gym and learn how to box. Micky Ward's left hook to the body, he may be a glorified club fighter, but damn, how many boxers have a finishing move(like in video games)? that punch is just sick. also i would like to be able to throw a left hook the way Wladimir Klitschko does, it looks like he is whipping a baseball at someone's head  . Body shots are crucial though.
