Roy Jones lost for a couple of reasons:
A.)After the Tarver fight people saw 2 things 1.)Bad Chin 2.)pressuring Jones works.
B.)Roy Jones is getting older.
C.)Roy Jones isn't quite as hungry as he once was.(rightfully so)
Should we erase Roy Jones whole career off two KO losses? No
See the truth is Antonio Tarver exposed Roy Jones Jr.'s chin and now other are capitalizing on it.
If you pressure Jones he will eventually fall, but all great careers must come to end.
The strategy that Tarver and Johnson had were similiar yes but Tarver is a much better boxer than Johnson but with alot less power. Jones got hit by just plain old fasion bombs! His reflex's were alot less slower plus with all the recient weight activity playing factor come on, I mean this guy was the best in the division for many years the only people who would challenge him were the low class fighters who wanted to show what they had, they knew they werent going to win but noone in the division at the time big really would fight him. I see Jones as a great fighter who always fought, was known as the greatest p4p fighter of our era and he got old. He deserves a come back he took time off if he stayed in shape take a fight back then go to Tarver and redeem yourself against Johnson and retire. He has to fight a rubber match against Tarver if atleast to get back his true fans who left him after another loss.
I have always told anybody that would listen that Jones was the most overrated fighter of his time. Jones makes mistakes most amateurs wouldn't. But he got away with it because of his speed and because his oponents for the most part were second raters. Hopkins was nowhere near his prime when he fought Jones, he was still very inexperienced. Toney was weight weakened. Does anybody out there really believe in their wildest dreams that Toney would not flatten Roy Jones today (or before he fought Tarver the 1st time?) As fo Virgil Hill, he wasn't doing too badly despite the fact that he was past his prime until he got hit by a freaky shot that broke his ribs. Getting hit "just right" in the short ribs will wreck anybody, just ask ODH!
Ring Magazine had an interesting article on the subject of Roy Jones invincibility, "Ten Fighters Who Would Have Kicked Roy Jones Ass". Some of those mentioned were Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore, Bob Foster. I'd also like to add Willie Pastrano, who would have given him a boxing lesson, Harold Johnson, Michael Spinks and possibly Bob Satterfield, the most dangerous puncher of the bunch. And there are several others like Billy Conn and
Hary Kid Matthews.
Jones has been exposed as a fighter who has a first rate china chin. The first time he got clocked, his career was over!
BS!
Hopkins hits him with 4 or 5 perfectly timed overhand rights, and Roy took them fine.
He's not hungry anymore, and shouldn't fight again unless he becomes hungry.
Give him some credit, he played with Toney and Hopkins. Weight loss is a BS excuse for Toney, and Hopkins was a very good fighter way back then.

Jack tha rippuh, i agree with you on this:
I think the biggest problem came from Roy not being able to develop another attribute after his speed and reflexes started declining.
Had RJJ depended on great technique, a stiff jab, keeping his gloves up, his career could have lasted a lot longer... Also after so many years of the media saying he was superman and didn't have to do the things normal fighters do, he started believing it. When he saw that he couldn't compete at heavyweight, i think the last of his real desire to compete flushed down the toilet, after you're the WBA hw champ it's a real bummer to go back down and face Tarver because you find out you can't unify the titles at heavyweight
Jones really doesn't have anything to prove anymore. He's been champ for so long but he's getting older and his reflexes are just not there. Not only that but didn't Roy just look bored when he was fighting Johnson. It just seemed like he was going through the motions from the 3rd round on until he got decked. Boxing is not a sport you can half step with even with Roy's talent.

Tarver didn't pressure RJJ in the second fight. RJJ was controlling the fight till the end.

Look more like its A!
a major reason in my opinion why got knocked out is because he is still trying to box the same way that he always has. obviously he probably wasn't mentally there and he just doesn't have the same speed that he used to but...
1. his hands are NEVER up
2. he should have used more upper body movement
3. he should've moved around rather than staying near the ropes
4. he should've jabbed more even though he's not a great jabber so that at least he can open up some holes...
i don't know...i don't get it. these are things that he can still accomplish...who knows what's going through his lately
I think i remember him having an excellent jab, he just enver used it lol. In his olympic days, he jabbed like a mofo. He had all 4 attributes in your list, it's just that he found ways of winning without using them. Till it caught up to him.
RJJ fought mostly old men or scrubs.....he avoided Dariusz Michalczewski (THE REAL LINEAR CHAMPION) like the plague and was an unindicted party to the WBC/Rocchigiani title belt scandal. Fuck RJJ and the craven media that willingly propped up his Potemkinesque career in the UNHOLY name of ratings and merchandising.
1.) Old, and everything that goes with that word.
2.) Tired-- Roy has been in boxing for 20 years; office workers get optional retirement with that kind of length of service and they don't even get punched!
So, Roy has been KO'd twice and he may have ducked a figher or two during his various reigns at different weights. But are we to disregard his entire sterling career because of those? Throw the baby out with the bath water?
I think we ALL just have to sit back and realise that this is the end of an era of one of the most talented fighters to have ever entered the ring. Not only did he lose interest in the fight game before the first Tarver fight he also lost something even more important that i didn't realise truely at the time and that was his heart. As soon as the heart dies then it doesn't matter how much talent you have all, been in the ring with a VERY hungry fighter like Johnson is a bad combination.
I agree. Its time for Jones to sit back and relax. Retire rich, healthy, and happy.

yeah, i just saw the video in the gallery, i cant beleive roy just stood there and got hit like that. it was fucking crazy how he just stood there, i know hes done but i guess hes old to.
thats all ive seen too...and i cant believe it either...when tarver kod jones at least jones was throwing a punch.
i think that roy was so worried about the big ko punch that he just stood thier waiting for it and then it was too late.
i wonder what hes doing right now.i want to hear his views on the fight and his career.
He's done. Don't talk about Roy not being done. It's stupid for him to keep fighting. A Roy Jones you can hit is not Roy Jones. It's somebody else.
