According to Christian Cherchi, promoter for heavyweight contender Carlos Takam, they are are holding negotiations for a potential showdown with Dereck Chisora.

Cherchi is hoping to reach an agreement with promoter Eddie Hearn and wants to make that fight happen on a date in May. The fight would take place on UK soil.

Takam (35-4-1, 27 KOs) took that fight on late notice, after original opponent Kubrat Pulev withdrew with an injury.

He was giving Joshua a lot of trouble before the fight was stopped in the tenth after Takam was stunned by a few punches, but many felt the stoppage was very premature.

Chisora has been out of the ring since suffering an upset decision loss to European champion Agit Kabayel in November.

He was being scouted as an opponent for heavyweight prospect Joe Joyce, but the two sides were unable to reach an agreement on the money.

"At the Okolie-Chamberlain fight, I proposed this fight," Cherchi told Sky Sports. "He likes the deal. Now it's only speaking about the money and see if everybody is on board.

"If Chisora wants the fight, I don't think he will have a problem doing the fight. I will definitely speak with [Hearn] this week."

Takam loves the idea of facing Chisora (27-8, 19 KOs) and hopes that contest will take place.

"Yeah, I'm very excited," said Takam.

"My first time here was a very good experience. Yes, Chisora is a good fight. The guy is not easy to fight. He is more crazy, but a good guy. I'm very calm, he is very crazy. It's going to be an exciting fight for me."
