There will be no issues with the brand of gloves that will be used on Saturday night as Gennady Golovkin defends his middleweight titles against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Alvarez, was contemplating sporting a pair that were created by his trainers that had never been previously used in big fights. It has been decided that Alvarez - like he did last year - will use the Japanese brand, Winning.
Standing behind a podium, Abel Sanchez never once looked over to his right at Canelo Alvarez. He didn’t have to. “The bottom line is to my left is the unified, undefeated middleweight champion,” Sanchez said, “and in order to take his belt, you’re going to have to fight him.”
Canelo, Golovkin Final Press Conference Photos Gallery - Lineal Middleweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) and WBC, WBA and IBO Middleweight Champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) took part in the final press conference for their anticipated rematch.
LAS VEGAS – Canelo Alvarez is no longer concerned about the judges the Nevada State Athletic Commission assigned to score his rematch against Gennady Golovkin on Saturday night. When Golovkin first learned last month, though, that Dave Moretti will judge their rematch, he didn’t understand the commission’s choice. Moretti was the only judge who scored their first fight for Golovkin (115-113) and is the only judge from that bout who’ll work their rematch, too.
LAS VEGAS – Based on many of the provocative comments Gennady Golovkin has made about Canelo Alvarez over the past six months, their rematch seems much more personal for the defending middleweight champion than their first fight.
Undefeated middleweight king Golovkin will climb into the ring with Alvarez at Las Vegas's T-Mobile Arena on Saturday, one year after they battled to a controversial draw at the same venue. A planned rematch for May 5 was canceled after Alvarez twice tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol and was subsequently hit with a six-month suspension.
LAS VEGAS – Abel Sanchez learned an invaluable lesson the night of the first Gennady Golovkin-Canelo Alvarez fight. Golovkin’s trainer protested the technique Alvarez’s trainers used to wrap his hands, known as stacking, when he watched them do it in Alvarez’s dressing room inside T-Mobile Arena. Sanchez got into an argument with a Nevada State Athletic Commission inspector, who told Sanchez that stacking, illegal in most states, is within the NSAC’s rules.
MGM Grand, LAS VEGAS - On Tuesday a confident Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-2) made his 'Grand Arrival' to the MGM to officially kick off fight week for his highly anticipated rematch against Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (38-0-1). The bout takes place at the T-Mobile Arean and will be distributed by HBO pay-per-view.
A big bone of contention in last year's bout between IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez - was the officiating. The first bout, which took place in September 2017, ended in a controversial draw.
LAS VEGAS – Canelo Alvarez senses a lack of confidence from Gennady Golovkin and his trainer, Abel Sanchez. If Golovkin and Sanchez were confident about beating him in their middleweight championship rematch Saturday night, Alvarez contends they wouldn’t be talking about hand-wraps, gloves, judges and various additional issues as their second bout draws near. Among other things, Alvarez assessed Golovkin’s psyche during an interview session with reporters Tuesday at MGM Grand after the middleweights made their “grand arrivals” at the host hotel for their HBO Pay-Per-View main event.
